I think it's good, but it's certainly not for everyone.
Yeah, probably more for people with friends.
I have observed, with a certain sense of humour, that the majority of gamers and other geeks/nerds are pretty elitist when it comes to social networking sites. I have a couple of theories to explain this.
- They just don't have many rl friends, or alternatively, just don't care about staying in contact with them.
- All their online friends can be kept in contact with via msn, xfire, steam, forums or ingame etc.
- They just consider themselves too good for them. Any idiot with an internet connection can use facebook, or twitter. I don't want to do that. I want to communicate with some uber-pro text based hacker software.
For me personally, I went to school for 5 years in one town, went on to study for three years in a city, lived overseas for a while, and am now in another city at university again. I have friends and family, quite literally, all over the country. (Albeit, its NZ, so its not that far.) I find facebook great for getting in contact and staying in contact with friends. I enjoy some of the games and aps. Facebook chat is fantastic. Facebook is a very useful tool, I hope it never dies.
Twitter on the other hand, I don't care for. I don't care what Myley Cyrus had for breakfast. No one does Myley, no one does.
