Achievements that aren't skill involved.

Join a server with 6000 people? How does that prove that you accomplished something?

Don't remember the name, but "Be Online with 30,000 other people" in some Basketball game.
I'm assuming that you are both referencing the be online with 1000 other people on NBA Live 07.

My most hated achievement is from Tom Clancy's End War

War is Heck- 30g

win five consecutive missions in Theater of War without losing heath.

that means, that for FIVE missions, NONE of your units can take ANY damage, AND you must win five times in a row like that, you lose a match or one of your Units gets shot and you're back to square one.

Not worth it in my opinion.

new prince of persia - conversatinalist

for talking to elika loads

all you ever do is have completely pointless banter, invovling the prince's horrible chat-up lines and basically him being a total unlikeable dickhole

Most useless one i've gotten to date was the one after the credits in Assassin's Creed.

when you walk around the empty "laboratory" and look at the walls and see strange markings, that are supposed to mean something, i never got why they were there though...
You aren't supposed to understand what they mean.

.......I think.
If you aren't supposed to understand what they mean but they're rewarding you for seeing them, isn't that a bad choice in itself? If they're rewarding you for stuff you don't know just because you saw something about it, there's no point. It's like rewarding a kid for seeing a complicated equation. The kid doesn't know the equation, so what's the point of calling them a genius?
Well when you view those images the game ends. So essentially it's an achievement for completing the game.

Actually, if you read the e-mails in Lucy and Warren's computers, the messages were left by a subject 16, the one before you, who experienced a kind of dementia from being in the Animus too long and became confused between his self and his ancestor's identity. Thus he went insane and painted those symbols, probably to leave someone like yourself a message. And the symbols mean a variety of things (good thing I'm a history major) including what is essentially the Japanese version of Atlantis, Mayan calendar dates, and plenty of 'end of the world' theories or symbols. It's just setting the end of the game up for the sequel.

The one in TF2, Photostroika, requires the heavy to provide a freezecam taunt while invulnerable. This obviously means, the invuln gets wasted and might cost the team the game.

That could be it. I think they're just as hard.

Shoot, beat me to it. Anyway, I have to say Enlightened Guitarist on Guitar Hero 3. Get five stars on every song on expert!? Thats impossible for many!
I can top that
Score 750,000 points on a song....0,o WTF? I have completed guitar hero on expert and done most extra hard songs and the most I've ever got is 503,000. Enlightened guitarist is possible through some easier songs but 750,000 is only achievable by nearly full comboing the devil went down to georgia or doing well on though the fire and flames.
I suppose they are real achievements though, they are ridiculously hard but the satisfaction for completing them is immense which is really what an achievement is about. Not just something you can get in 5 seconds.
Another way to get 750k is to do really well on Through the Fire and Flames, there's a DLC song that you can get 750k on, but you pretty much have to 100% it to get that high.

On Battlefield 2:Modern Combat (for the 1st xbox) there's an award for getting 30 kills in a row in a single match using a turret on the back of a jeep. The only possible way for this is to cheat if you ask me. If you've played this game you would know how damn near impossible this is to get.

That's what makes it an achievement.

So this cheesy little flash game seems relevant to the discussion of unnecessary achievements: http://kyon.pl/static/swf/10637.swf
I love that game. It totally skewers achievement whoring in games, and is hilarious, too.

Damn Assassins Creed.
I've never played Assassin's Creed, but it's not the only game to have the dreaded "secret achievement." I hate them. Do the game designers not understand that, in order to be driven to get the achievement, I need to know what the hell it is?

Any achievement that requires the following.

Negative action - e.g. Fifa 08 Concede 2 own goals in one match, or TMNT on XBLA Fall into a manhole 5 times.

No skill required - Press Start to play from Simpsons Game, Play 100 online games.

Require too much - Kill 10,001 people in Battlefield Bad Company whilst online.

Have unseen flaws - Wins 25 Ranked Matches in a Row on Mortal Kombat vs DC, would be fined if it wasn't for the fact that if your oppodent disconnects it breaks your streak.

No you dummies, its actually a bunch of codes and riddles. A few of the symbols(the pyramid of numbers, for instance) are code keys to translate the other symbols. I didn't take the time to translate them, but my cousins did, and it translates into some creepy stuff.

Zombie Genocide in L4D

My Gawd who is going to get this?!?!
multiple players have that Acheivment including myself. You may be thinking of Zombie genocide from deadrising.

OT: I dont find easy achievments bad (hey your going to give me points for doing nothing fine by me) However I hate achievments that require you to kill a certain amount of enemys in a game. For example

Seriously 2.0-kill 100,000 opponets in total. this includes kills in campiegn, horde ,and multiplayer.

this wouldnt be a problem if it didnt take a crazy amount of time.

There are a couple of games that come to mind...

Vampire Rain - S Rank on all Levels
Tom Clancey`s G.R.A.W - Get to No#1 on all leaderboards
QUAKE 4 - 100,000 kills and Matchs = Death
