interesting this thread popped up. I just bought GTA4 today for like 15 bucks (why not? its overhyped, but not brutal) and I got a Bronze Trophy for completing the first mission "off the boat".... I was like "huh? What the.. complete the first mis.. This is trophy worthy?!?!"

I hate achievments where you have to play for hundreds of hours and don't get much from it, but its a good way to legthen game time.

Killing yourself 5 times in FEAR

Shoot, beat me to it. Anyway, I have to say Enlightened Guitarist on Guitar Hero 3. Get five stars on every song on expert!? Thats impossible for many!
I can top that
Score 750,000 points on a song....0,o WTF? I have completed guitar hero on expert and done most extra hard songs and the most I've ever got is 503,000. Enlightened guitarist is possible through some easier songs but 750,000 is only achievable by nearly full comboing the devil went down to georgia or doing well on though the fire and flames.
I suppose they are real achievements though, they are ridiculously hard but the satisfaction for completing them is immense which is really what an achievement is about. Not just something you can get in 5 seconds.
Another way to get 750k is to do really well on Through the Fire and Flames, there's a DLC song that you can get 750k on, but you pretty much have to 100% it to get that high.

On Battlefield 2:Modern Combat (for the 1st xbox) there's an award for getting 30 kills in a row in a single match using a turret on the back of a jeep. The only possible way for this is to cheat if you ask me. If you've played this game you would know how damn near impossible this is to get.
Oooh whats the song? If it's the fanigans ball pack then I don't think thats possible because it's just not got enough notes in the and if it's the devil went down to georgia, an fc is almost impossible.

The multiplayer achievements in Empire: Total War bother me because Total War has always been first and foremost about the singleplayer experience. The best they can do is multiplayer one-off battle achievements? I hope that if they ever get that MP campaign hashed out that it adds achievements to go with it.

Those are awesome because you don't expect them. And it's Eat Lead, did you honestly expect anything but comedy and story based achievements? Just wait till you finish the game.
They are also some of the funniest descriptions I have ever seen.

The worst for me was FEAR 2 with the 4 Star General: Achieve the rank of General in Ranked MP followed by 5 Star General: Get all the MP achs. 150 hours (at least)of doing the Hokie Pokie. Why haven't devs learned we don't need MP achievements just solid MP to keep us playing (see COD 4) and all adding stupid MP achs does is cause achwhores to boost?

I hate any achievement that gives you 0 points. Why take the time to put it in there if you get nothing for doing it? Also, achievements for beating levels and games are great in my opinion. It's nice to see your hard work get noticed. Sure it was level 1 on easy. But it's its nice to get some recognition for it. Achievements like those allow people like me who aren't very good or just don't like to go out of there way to still get some valuable points.

Seriously 2.0 is a stupidly hardcore achievement. 100,000 kills? I've played the game a lot and I'm not even 1/10th of the way there. The description might as well be "find the most effective exploit to attain 100,000 kills", because nobody with any semblance of a life is going to be able to get it otherwise. Gears 2 is a good game, but it's not that good.

The worst achievements are for "completing the game on the Easy difficulty." This would be fine if the achievement was unlocked for completing it on a harder difficulty as well. While this is mostly the case, there are still some games that insist that you need to replay the game on an easier difficulty to earn the achievement.

Any achievement/trophy such as "Complete Chapter 1/2/3/etc" feels like an undeserved goal, because you're going to finish the story at least once anyway, at least set a score of time limit on the goal.

hmm i'd say the worse one would have to be on transformers tie-in game. "transform for the first time"

in my opinion acheivements should have some sort of challange and a decent score for getting them.
