Would you buy a Call of Duty game if you got to play as a Nazi?

Yes, i really want to see a company have the balls to produce a portrayal of the war from a perspective other than the squar chinned GI's running around claiming they won it all alone.
if history is written by the victors then it would be refreshing to see history written from the perspective of the losers, even if it wasnt particularly WW2

but the thing is the game could have multiple campaigns.lets just pull a quentin tarantino and rapidly shift perspective pulp fiction style.one minute you ARE torturing a prisoner in a concentration camp, the next, you are operating a gatling gun on the beaches of normandy, the next playing as an american running up the beach and avoiding said gunner, and you end up shooting the guy who was at the concentration camps.this could actually make a well rounded and multifaceted storyline and it doesnt just have to focus on one character, and it would give a master chief style character(a blank slate)that would actually allow players to identify with the character.plus i like the ww2 hunting rifles more than modern day machine guns anyway:p[/quote]

You could definitely do a good, controversial single player campaign as the Nazi's in the spirit of Modern Warfare 1/2 - jump back and forth between like an SS officer and some grunt in the trenches etc - SS officer does things like throwing switches on ovens and covert missions, and most of the action requirement comes from the grunt in the trenches. Then I dunno, toss in a mission as a jewish resistance fighter or something and after a couple missions you all get slaughtered etc like the nuke on the city in mw1. Maybe you play as just a normal jew or something and get to deathmarch and then die.

That would all be suitably controversial.
as i said this would be a great game but in order to market the game americans or brits you cant just make a game where you play as nazis because then it will just be the CoD where youre a nazi.you have to let them be american for a couple levels simply because americans have to score points for team USA in their wargames as a general rule.

Only if my commander has the face of Arnold Schwarzenegger. That would be funny as all hell.

I would be perfectly fine playing half the levels as a Wermacht soldier and half the levels as a member of the french resistance as long as the game was well made. Not every game protagonist has the be of anglo descent for us pathetic Americans to identify with you know that right?

Play as one of the most ruthless, blood-thirsty, and racist people groups in the history of mankind. With absolutely no ethics and zero regard for human life? I would have to morally object to that.

Do you mean nazi nazi (a real indoctrinated one who believed in ethnic cleansing and what not)?

Or an average german soldier part of the wermacht and wasn't an indoctrinated nazi? Sorry if this sounds like a silly question but some peope use nazis as a catch all term to categorize all german soldiers of ww2 xP

In either case it would be interesting to play as, but i'd like to have a game from the german perspective, with a german soldier being the "good guy" in the sense he is fighting for his country and a brave and good soldier (think of rommel as a perfect example), respected by even the enemy (i remember reading somewhere about usa veterans actually inviting german veterans to their meetings as although fighting on opposite sides, there was a lot of respect between them and during the actual war were honorable towards each other).

Game might not end on a "your side won" note but this doesn't mean you couldn't participate in historic german victories or fighting desperate rearguard action.
Last level could be a valiant last stand as you're swarmed by allies, with the hero being incapacitated and surviving the war to become a historian on ww2 or something xP

You can't seriously be saying you agree with the Nazi regime?
To me there's a difference between the Holocaust and the Nazi war machine. One led to the lowered civilian population, and the other led to Germany kicking Europe's ass like I said in the original post.
You want to play as a Nazi to, "kick Europe's ass," not only does that seem completely wrong, the Nazi's lost the war. So a whole lot of ass kicking they did there.

I'm pretty sure if by, "stroking," your German pride by playing as a Nazi means you agree with it's ideology. This in turn makes you an anti-Semite and racist. Correct me if I'm wrong but the Nazi War Machine was used to corrupt youth, take control of Europe, and exterminate the Jews as well as other groups of people.

So either that was a really bad choice of words, or you're fucking stupid.

On topic: I don't really know, it sounds like less of a game and more of a controversy causer. I mean I don't find anything wrong with the new Medal of Honor or 6 Days in Fallujah...but executing a civilian in a concentration camp? That just sounds a bit over the edge. And again I'm not saying I play a game like GTA and kill random people...so I'm sort of picking apart my own argument. So I guess I don't really have an answer for you.

well i......oh my god thats a great idea.
While it is a great, albeit controversial, idea, playing as a nazi zombie would also be great fun. tearing town windows, sneaking up on hapless players.....

*sigh* A nazi is a member of the NSAPD, the national socialist worker party of germany. Why would you want to play as one of those? Or do you mean as a member of the SS? You know, Hitler's bodyguards who were also in charge of concentration camps? Or do you mean as a member of the wehrmacht, which would be equivalent to playing as a grunt of any allied nation. Yeah, why the hell not, but get your fuckin' terms correct...

Sure, but all in how they tell the story. Or what they choose to tell, if they take a Nazi sympathiser role, then I wouldn't enjoy it, but if it took an angle of a Forced Nazi, or someone seeking a way out, then I'm sure I would love the game like any other FPS I've played.

I personaly would love a game so controversial, but why not different parts of the various campaigns, invasion of poland, blitzkrige while pusing the british back to dunkirk, invasion of africa, the easten front. then finaly the turn of the tide where your retreating being pushed into germany with a massive final stand at the steps of the Reichshtag.

On a more serious note the SS, the SA the einsatzgrupenn were all fanatics it is impossible to fight a fanatical enemy its why there are suicide bombings because they belive their cause that much. if you are going to blame anyone blame Hittler and his high command they induced the country to fanaticisme and gave the orders.
