Would you cut off a limb to save a stranger?

How about... when given the item for the limb cutting, I turn and stab the crazy guy? Yes? No?

Probably, if I could get away with just a finger or something, or if there was a very quick way of doing it. No saw-saw-sawing and oh-my-god-I'm-too-feeble-to-cut-through-bone. Because I know I would be. The whole idea makes me twitch but I really wouldn't be able to live with myself if the stranger died. Of course, if after all that it turned out the stranger was some kind of mass murdering lunatic of something... I'd be pretty pissed off. If I knew that from the start I probably wouldn't do it even though I believe that I probably should anyway.

No. Why save a stranger who could be a potential bellend. The irony being I am one in this situation.
Yeah. Then I'd probably make some terrible joke along these lines:
Stranger: "Thank you, I owe you my life'
Me: "At least you don't owe me an arm AND a leg"
or
Stranger: "Thank you so much! That was really selfless of you!"
Me: "Don't worry, I'm always going out on a limb for people"
Stranger: "Thank you, I owe you my life'
Me: "At least you don't owe me an arm AND a leg"
or
Stranger: "Thank you so much! That was really selfless of you!"
Me: "Don't worry, I'm always going out on a limb for people"
1. I'd probably bleed to death
2. Cutting off my own arm would probably cause more mental damage than watching a stranger die.
3. Why would I make negotiations with a man who's obviously insane and has a gun?
4. If I didn't bleed to death, I'd have to live without my arm for the rest of my life, unable to do a lot of my favorite activities.
5. There's no guarantee he'll keep his end of the deal. He IS the one with the gun, after all, and he's insane enough to kill and use others compassion for other to put on a show for himself.
Exactly how could I even think about agreeing to this man's deal...?
