Well, im in firm support of D1DLC, However, it costs McDonald's 10-20 per slice of cheese dependent on region, so by willingly paying 99c, you have sent a dangerous message to McDonald's that its OK to charge x5 or more markup over the actual cost of what they gave you. It lets every franchise owner know they too can get away with that.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Honestly if D1DLC bothers you that much you know what you should do? Not buy it. Hell wait a year and a half and then buy it plus all the dlc plus the original base game all for less than the base game on day 1. I mean why would you choose to pay full price for what is in essence a beta rs anyway?
Day 1 DLC I never have a problem with, it's usually stuff that couldn't be fit into the main game before it was too late to add anything more to the disk, and it's fair enough to ask you to pay for that little bit of extra that might have never been released without DLC being an option.
What I take issue with is when the so called "downloadable content" appears ON THE DISK.
When this happens, they obviously DID have time to put it on the disk and we WOULD have gotten this content if DLC wasn't an option.
I'm fine with some unfinished samples being on the disk, non-functioning textures and such that get incorporated into DLC, but when the DLC is merely 'unlocks' content that's always been on the disk, in full... it's bullshit.
The content was completed before the game went gold, but the people who develop content are not the same people who work on testing. They decide to make a little something extra while the QA guys are fixing up the main game and sell it separately. Is there anything wrong with that? Think of it as two separate products, one of which requires the other but the other stands on its own.
Correct me if I'm wrong, since I haven't yet played the game, but it's not like there's some invisible barrier you can get to that says "Buy From Ashes from the XBL Marketplace to unlock this area!" is it? It wasn't advertised as part of the game, was it? If you can play the game without it and never know that it's there, and you haven't been misled into thinking you get it with the game for free, then what makes it part of the game? Its presence on the disc?
I don't care about when the game went gold and what was completed by that date. I don't even know when that was. What matters to me is what content was complete when the game hits store shelves on 3/6/12. That's my only interaction with the Bioware/EA along the way so that should be the only date that matters.
Yes, it is possible to play through the game without DLC but it detracts from the game. It's equally possible to play through Modern Warfare 3 without the M4 rifle. But it's hard to immerse yourself into the boots of a bad ass soldier if you can't use their standard issue weaponry. That makes the game experience worse and I honestly wouldn't have bought MW3 if I knew infinity ward made it alongside the game itself and was holding it back from me. It's one thing to not have that idea pop into your head but it's unforgivable to have made something (that could significantly improve the game experience) before launch date and not include it.
Well I can tell you one thing all your bitching has accomplished. No developer will ever do this again.
An internet insult hurler telling people to get a life, the irony of the situation is anvilicious.
Well, let's just say that people have every right to voice their opinion on why they're unhappy with a service. And I'm pretty sure nobody is going to shut up solely for your convenience...
Hey, if you're gonna mention a character dying a tragic death in a James Cameron movie, might as well make it a good James Cameron movie :D
Sorry for not agreeing with this.
As far as the "Mass Effect 3 Day 1 DLC controversy" it was already proven that the script for the said content excluded was leaked quite awhile ago i.e. during development, ergo, it was already planned but stripped from the game prior to release. Not, as Bioware claims, during the certification process. Thus, giving you an incomplete game and not acceptable by many consumers such as myself. Also, as far as I have heard, since I haven't played it, it isn't just a throw away character, like say, Zaeed which you got for FREE by the way with a new copy of Mass Effect 2.
Also, the whole "if we don't sell this bit of content we will have to lay off people" is bollocks. If EA was willing to lay off one of their biggest studios because they didn't sell a character for $10 means they have bigger problems with their business model.
At the end of the day, if they spend time during development to make content that I spend $60 on I expect to see it. Anything else after the game being released can be added with a price tag, and then I will decide to buy it or not.
Being a responsible consumer and voting with your wallet is the most important thing you can do. But, insulting others because they believe day 1 DLC is horrible and calling them "ridiculous" because they follow what they believe is even more "ridiculous".
It get's worse!
I ordered a burger from those fuckheads and not only did they try to charge me for the extra content of the cheese, but worse yet I found out that they had the cheese ready before they had finished my burger.
This is fucking outrageous, the internet should do something about this, it is clearly the most important issue facing mankind.
It would just be nice if people had a clue what they were talking about, when they were complaining about something. People are just too blinded by bandwagon hatred to see simple facts, and too jaded to listen to simple reason that clashes with the 'blarg corporations are evil' ideology popular among netlurkers.
Yeah yeah, bandwagon, herding instinct, yadda yadda...because people who think differently than you do can't possibly be right, right? You know, after all the ridiculousness from both sides it gets kind of hard not to start using the F-word. No, not that F-word, the other one...
But all in all, I'm just rolling my eyes at the fact that something that was apparently present on the disk is called "downloadable" content. EA dropped the ball on this one, they got caught on a lie, but that's their problem. As I've said many times before, some of the customers have not yet forgotten their rights.
But you know what, you're right, who am I to tell people what to do with their money? I'm just cranky about stuff other people do with their money negatively affecting me.
Well when the Day One DLC content is found already on the disc, then it is ripped content from the original game being sold back to you for a nominal fee, despite technically owning part or even a little bit of a license to already play the DLC.
Next. Yes, Mc-D has some ridiculous policies.
I agree, it's terrible how McDonald's charge you extra money for cheese.
The cheese I can understand but it's the charge for extra sauce that gets my nipples in a twist. As for Mass Effect 3...it's been out for what, a week now? Lets start getting mad at something else now like, Max Payne 3 for its box art and grooming mechanics. Seriously though, I don't care about day one DLC. I'm getting the game used in a few months and doubt I'll get any DLC until later DLC packs are released, just like I did with ME2 (no Zaeed but Lair of the Shadow Broker). Still pissed off at Rocksteady for the Cat-Woman thing.
