I haven't heard a decent rap song since 2004, so it's looking pretty shit.

I'll go through all the bands listed in this thread to make sure.

I love rap I've grown up with it but most of the mainstreamers have destroyed what it once was Only mainstream rappers I will listen to are Common,Kanye(yea I know he's a dick),Lupe Fiasco,Mos Def, Kid Cudi and Eminem probaly forgetting a few but you get the jist Rap has become a mess.
Lupe Fiasco is an excellent example of someone who weaves a great tale. Sage Francis, Doom, and Lupe are some rappers on my music list- and based on my current samples, I seem to be more of a metal guy.

I agree 100%.

The "old" rap still had elements of musicality in it, nowadays it's not about music, but rather, being some jumped-up punk wannabe gangsta. The only thing more pathetic is the fact that today's youth have made these assholes multi-millionaires (can you say "Fiddy"?)

All of it could use a little more Bill Cosby. Don't you agree?

joking. It's like asking someone's favor between two rock/other genre bands. They're not going to like them both just because it's a favorable genre.

Yes, i compleatly agree with you. Rap sucks now matter how you put it. Most songs are all electronically produced so you dont actully hear the persons real voice, the lyerics dont make sense, and its just not interesting. Metal on the other hand...........

A large amount of it is crap. If the subject matter has anything to do with girls, drugs, sex, or money, then I heard it before. If you can show me something else, then I'll give it a shot before I say anything.

I agree, modern rap is utter crap, not helped by the fact that my brother feels the need to blast the utterly worst rap songs ever between our shared hallway from his room. the only good modern rap is that which saterizes it, such as white and nerdy, or certain wow rap song parodies.

I never really liked rap. However, I have to admit that I enjoyed "Those Minerals" a great deal.

the general consensus i see hear is that you guys dont like "mainstream" rap. You dont like the singles. I presonally am a huge fan of lil wayne but i hate Lollipop, it was a single. The stuff they put on the radio nowadays is for people to bump to they want catchy lyrics and a hard ass beat. The songs they dont put on the radio still go hard but have more meaning. People like Tech N9ne, Supernatural, papoose, and the underground rappers on youtube are amazing. You guys saying that all rap is bad would be like me saying that all metal is bad and i never listen to metal. You saying all rap is about drugs, money and girls is like me saying all metal is about devil worship. Neither of these statements are true but are widely believed.

Examples:
Tech N9ne - Leave me alone

Papoose - Alphabetical Slaughter

16 Bar Acapella - SiRySs

It's like a lot of music, the good stuff isn't mainstream. But I do love Mos Def's newest album The Ecstatic.

And Jay-Z's old stuff. How can you not like "99 Problems" and "H to the Izzo"? Those are mainstream, though. It's not my favorite genre, but there are times when I want to listen to it.

Rap stopped being good after Eminem's The Eminem Show.

Hell even NaS is selling out for christs sake!

The last rap album I will ever buy will be Dr Dre's Detox album, if that ever comes out

It's a cheap way to get out of doing music by stealing "beats" from other people and reading your poetry atop it.

At least that's what it used to be. Now it's fast approaching the Britney Spears/Lady GaGa levels were the artist is pretty much worthless behind the scenes, and just has an army of songwriters, choreographers, marketers, stuff like that. Being a product is no good.

Long live teh r0ck.
