I haven't read many books, but I would have to say "The Lost Years Of Merlin" by T.A. Barron. It a five book saga about Merlin in his youth, from the age of 10 to 18. The books are, The Lost Years of Merlin, The Seven Songs of Merlin, The Fires of Merlin, The Mirror of Merlin, and The Wings of Merlin.

I first encountered it a many years back when I was in high school. I didn't really like reading that much, so obviously I hated doing book reports. Normally, I would just grab a book and just read a few pages in the beginning middle and end, so that I could do the report. But at that time, I decided that I would at least look for something interesting. I found "The Lost Years of Merlin" in my school's library. I had intended to do what I normally did, but after a few pages I was hooked. It was the first book report that I actually read the whole book for. Then I found out there was more to the story and I went out and bought the five book saga at a Barnes & Noble.

Each book is just under 300 pages. Since I was normally didn't read books, I was surprised by how six hours would easily fly by while reading one of them. I finished all five within a month or so. T.A. Barron has also written a trilogy that takes place after those books, The Great Tree of Avalon. I finished the first book and I'm reading the second. Most of his books involve around the time period that Merlin lived. When I finish the series I'm on I will probably move on to his Merlin's Dragon series. The guy is really prolific writer.

Really, thinking back, his books are what got me interested again in writing like I had been in elementary school, and is why I became an English major in college.

Finally! a positive mention of eragon! What movie? There was never any movie....... XD
I listened to Eragon on CD and read Eldest. I never got around to the third book.

And yes, as far as I'm concerned, the movie doesn't exist. Left so much out of it and changed a major key point from the first book that they wouldn't even be able to make the second movie.
The Ra'zac got killed by Brom. It was the other way around in the book. It is bad because the Ra'zac play a major role in the books following.

I would like someone to redo the first movie. Someone that actually cares about the book and not about making money.
If I ever get a book published and someone wants to make a movie of it, the only way I would allow it, is if they followed the book to the letter and changed none of the story. There is no point in making a movie of a book, that people love, if you are going to destroy the story and make people angry.

At the moment, it's the series of books in the Ender's Game series (that's including the Shadow books and Ender in Exile). The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a close second.

Douglas Adams "The increasingly inaccurately named Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy trilogy of five".

For modern nothing can compare to Lord of the Rings and The Chronicles of Narnia.
I couldn't agree more, those are two of my favorite series.
I also like the Redwall series and most of the books by Dianna Wynn Jones, mostly the Derkholm series and the Eight Days of Luke.
Redwall is another great series that I really enjoyed. Could you pick a favorite from that series if you had to? I haven't heard of the others but will have to check them out.

My favorite Redwall book? Probably Mattimeo. Have you ever read his other series, Castaways of the Flying Dutchman. They're also pretty good.
Describing the Derkholm series would take too long, but Eight Day of Luke would really appeal to someone who likes Norse mythology, specifically the god Loki.

I almost forgot, I'm also a huge fan of the Artemis Fowl books.

It's funny, I'm a huge fan of fantasy books, but the Harry Potter series doesn't even make it on my Top 5 or even my Top 10(maybe at the bottom,) I like it but it'll never be my favorite.
Mattimeo is a great choice. I think mine would have to be The Outcast of Redwall because (SPOILER) I like the way Veil redeems himself in the end and on top of that it had Sunflash who's just awesome because, well, he's a badger and badgers are awesome, lol.

I have read the first of the Flying Dutchman series but it was a long time ago and I don't remember a whole lot about it other then that like you said, it was good. I'll have to revisit that one sometime.

That sounds awesome, <3 Norse mythology so I'll be sure to give that one a look.

Artemis Fowl is one I'm familiar with but haven't had a chance to actually read yet but I'm guessing if you like LOTR and Narnia then Artemis must be good because you have good taste.

Yeah I enjoyed Harry Potter as well but don't think I'd put it in my top 5 either.

If you haven't read it yet and are looking for a new fantasy series try Homeland by R.A. Salvatore; it's the first in The Legend of Drizzt series.

I hate to admit it but right now it's probably the Warhammer 40k Horus Heresy books.
For a series of novels based on a tabletop game and a setting as blatantly silly as 40k is, the Horus Heresy series is just damned fun to read.

I'm also kind of a Dark Tower nerd, the only thing that keeps me from really promoting it to other people is that I HATE the ending.
Well not the actual ending but the series of events just before the ending.
It's just terrible.

Also if you can overlook what a creepy pervert the writer is, Piers Anthony's Incarnations of Immortality series is a lot of fun.

hmmm im going to have to say both of Matthew Reilly's 'series' books

The Scarecrow series (Ice Station, Area 7, Scarecrow, Hell Island, his next book)

The Jack West Jr. series (Seven Ancient Wonders, Six Sacred Stones, Five Greatest Warriors)

If you haven't read them and you are into crazy fast-paced action novels (which would have to have a massive budget if made into a movie) then try these series out by Australian author Matthew Reilly cos they are just that good.

Only series that I've read recently is the Eragon series. While they're not bad, they're not exactly brilliant either, so I won't say they're my favorite. I did read the first parts of Ender's Game and A Song of Ice and Fire this summer, though. They're both great, but I didn't really feel like I wanted to keep reading the rest of the series.

So I guess the Alltime Favorite prize goes to Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.
