Buckethead is without a doubt my favourite guitarist. He's extremely hard working (he has 25+ studio albums out and has worked on up to about double that), he makes brilliant music and is one hell of a guitar player. His music is also incredibley varied and diverse so

Paul Waggoner (Between the Buried and Me) deserves a mention as well. His live performances are spot on and are exactly like they are on the album. Plus the solo in Selkies: The Endless Obsession is just godlike.

There are so many awesome guitar plays mentioned in this thread..

But one is especially dear to me:

Blind Guardian's Andre Olbrich (and his rythm guitar partner Markus Siepen).

Living : Alexi Laiho, hard to say though, it changes alot, Laiho is the monly solid one.

Honorable mentions: Vai, Satch, Buckethead, Akerfeldt, Hendrix, Olbrich, Gus G, Randy Rhodes, Angus Young, Deron Miller, Gilbert, Jerry Cantrell, Silenoz, Galder, Pepper Keenan, Ihsahn, Peerson and Grutle from Enslaved, Joe Duplantier, Iommi, Tagtgren, Abbath, Geolette and Stromblad, Adrian Smith, Andy LaRocque, Robert Flynn, Jeff Loomis, Chris Broderick, Dave Mustaine, James Hetfield, The dudes from mesuggah, Muhammad Suimez, Luca Turelli, Satyr, The Dude from scar symmetry, Daron Malakan, Jani from Sonata, and the 2 other most important, Jari Maenpaa and Devon Townsend.

Every single one of these guitarists has touched my life in someway, that, to me, makes them amazing guitarists.

Django Reinhardt, obviously. I mean, playing gypsy-jazz guitar with a hand with only two fully-mobile fingers? How is anybody supposed to compete with that?
