Here is my problem,
I cannot find suitable employment. I have been looking for better employment for over a year now and even after countless applications, resumes, cover letters(crafted personally, by friends and family, and paid services) I have not even landed one interview EXCEPT the current job I have working for AT&T as a Sales Support Rep.

I have a B.A. in History and would like to become employed as an archivist or curator, preferably dealing with video and audio. Another career would be to work for a video game show or website because one of my other passions is video games and maybe combine my love of history with video games. Another passion of mine would be to attain my pilot's license or study the human eye to allow eyesight transfers.I know the latter two would require me to go back to school and I would not mind that at all because I know this would mean I would also be eligible for more internships.

I really do not know what to do or what steps I should take to even get the chance to become employed because most college grads I know are being forced to move back in with their parents and are making less than 20k a year(I know about 50 graduates who are in the same situation I am in). I know HIGH school graduates that are making more than that, but college students in the U.S. are getting boned when it comes to career opprotunities now.

So what do I need to do to become employed allowing me to move out of my parents place and become self-sufficient?

EDIT
To help some people here with time management or find there is just too much to do in their life I would recommend heading to this link from Carnegie Mellon University by the late Randy Pausch. He provides some great lectures.

If you have some time this is his big lecture, also very nice considering it was his LAST LECTURE.

If you feel like it's going to take a long while before you actually succeed in one of these ambitions you've mentioned, you should look for something else in the meantime, like (just a suggestion) history teacher. Yes, in a school.

Looking for a job as an archivist or curator might need some 3rd party help. You might want to actually contact a person who runs a high position in whatever facility you are asking for the job (museum, history research centers, etc), & hope he has some time on his hands to read your email. Just make your email concise & tell them the real reason why you want to work for them.

You can possibly find someone hiring you if you try to make a few videogame videos of your own, perhaps showing how certain fantasy elements in videogames relate to certain pieces of history, but always remember that people who watch this want humor! knowledge will just be a bonus to them. OR perhaps apply to a videogame company to work with the writers as a history specialist, so find a company that tends to make games that tend to relate with our real universe's past (Firaxis lol!).

But you simply have too many options it seems. If you prefer working in history, then keep looking & working for it. You can, perhaps, work on getting the piloting license or studies on human eyes & still look for a history-related job.

Don't let the fact that most grads are getting crap jobs. It's in fact the case with the majority of grads around the world. You have many options it seems, which so many people would be jealous of, so work on a plan & take some of them! You don't have to focus on only 1 option, you can work on the options that are open to you now while keeping track of the other options which you have been working on already!

Sorry for double-post. thiosk, if your graduate research is the only option you have, then even if it turns out it's worthless, you HAVE to try & make it impressive. You said superconductor research side-stepped what you researched? Give a view of what your research would've done to affect superconductor research. Give them what you found out through your research. Try to give more weight to the advantages over any disadvantages. & if I understand what I read, your research can be used to make some very expensive jewelry!

& just because you become a professor, doesn't mean you have to confine yourself to that. With side-studies & research, who knows, you might find yourself working on something that can get some phat lewt :p

Ok, so I have drafted a response to this question but I still need another vailid point. So far I have mentioned, World System Theory, the different interpretations of globalisation by both pluralist and sturcturalist theorists and the anti-globalisation movement; all applied to the post-socialist states. I was wondering if anyone here could think of something more that could be added? I don't expect any sources or paticular references, just ideas that I could go and research. I'm a bit stuck reaching my word limit. You don't need to be an expert, in fact it mught be better if you aren't as you might come up with something new. Thanks for the help.

Question:
Critically Review the Degree to which Globalisation has Affected the 'Transition' Process in Former Communist Countries

Before i post further, I should get a clarification? Is being apathetic about everything other than your pet and your computer a "problem"?

Will it be a complete waste of time to buy a metal detector and walk along the beach hoping to find something valuable?

Well, if you enjoy the walk and want something to do during it, then no. If you are expecting to actually find anything of value, then yes, yes it is.

It can develop into a problem later in life. If you stop caring about other people you can develop an anti-social personality, which some people enjoy (like my uncle), but a lot of people see it as a problem.

Well, there's the fact that with the increase of globalization countries going through the transition process can receive economic and military aid from other countries. At least, I think that's what you are referring to by globalization. I'm definetly not an expert.

I believe so, I hooked my 360 into my computer and got the wireless working, I just don't remember exactly how.

I feel your pain, as I'm in a similar situation myself. Liberal Arts grads are having a tough time in today's market (as well as most others as well), but I know one thing that you can do that will DEFINITELY look good in whatever you pursue (well, if it involves schooling): research.

Talk to your former professors, your friend's families, ANYONE related to the fields you're interested in, and ask if they need help with any research they're doing. It'll let you know if you really want to pursue that field (if you don't like doing research in a field, better to find out beforehand than during grad school), look good if you apply to internships or seek jobs (+ give you GREAT references if you do good work), and give you a step up for the competition.

Currently my plans fell through to teach English abroad (damn you, riotous Thailand -_-), and I'm living with my parents just like you said. But I'm also actively seeking out research (along with another job) so that I have a better chance to go to grad school.

Currently in a bind about the morality of what I'm going to be doing with my life. Which is kill people, and help others kills people. Bad people of course, but people none the less. I think I'll be able to, but possibility remains that I'll freeze and get good people killed. Hopefully the training will beat that out of me.

I'll start by posing my current conundrum. I'm not doing so hot in some of my courses because I can't motivate myself to go to them. I don't know why, I keep telling myself the things I need to do, but I can't get myself to go. Any advice?

Serious questions and answers only please.
Prozac

There's probably more going on in your head but for a short term just to get school done without wasting money... i say go for Prozac. I know that when I was in college i reached a point where i just didn't get up or go to classes... at that point I lied, told my primary physician that i was molested as child and they instantly granted me the prozac prescription. It definitely helped however the Prozac stunted my creativity and I had to get off of it once I hit my Jr. year since that was when the film projects started.

Personally I have no clue about the career path of an archivist or curator. So for me, I would probably interview a handful of curators just to find out the career path that got them to where they are. Either way, I would definitely figure out the road map first before I started proceeding down any path.

Well, I have Adderall and I have Vyvanse, but it's getting myself to take them that's the problem.

Do you have a bad gag reflex or something? You can crush the pills you know, if that's your problem.

No, not the physical act of swallowing them. Hell, I can swallow them dry by this point. It's getting out of bed and popping them in my mouth that I'm talking about. Normally, I wake up, go "I should take my pills and head to class". Then I wake up half an hour later and go "I should take my pills and go to class, hopefully they'll kick in about halfway through." Then I wake up an hour later and go "Ah, screw it, I'm going back to bed".
