do you still play original games?

I love my current gen consoles but I do get tired of all these new fangled 4-D, interwebby multiplayer, anti-analised games. At times like this, I thank Miyamoto-san for the existence of Virtual Console. All of these amazing games, with characters that actually had character, gameplay that...

Decent Wii games that DON'T use the Nunchuk.

I think you might like Dead Space Extraction. I've only played it on my friend's Wii but it starts pretty good.

Poll: several problems found in 99% of games

I think that the dialogue volume problem has more to do with the completely piss-poor speakers on most HDTVs rather than the developers. I have to connect my TV to my old PC 5.1 system in order to get decent sound.

Nintendo 64 Kid, Meet the Xbox 360 Kid

Deffo not faked. Kids tend not to hump things unless they get REAL excited. I can still remember the day we got a megadrive. My brother was actually crying with joy.

So how are you Londoners not terrified of the Met yet?

A few reasons why I think British police are better than American cops 1)UK bobbies are far less scared for their lives than those from the States, mostly because of the lack of guns in this country. This leads to the UK police acting more civilised than American police when confronted by a...

    The anti-negativity thread

Positive thinking: The next Half-Life episode will come out Summer '09 with something even more awesome than Portal. Negative thinking: 2010 earliest (oops shouldn't have said that out loud on this thread, silly me!) Positive thinking: I am ever hopeful that the Watchmen game is even half as...

No-one enjoys this nonsense, so stop doing it.

As a Yatzhee acolyte before I knew who he was, I am a firm believer in videogames as entertainment and so I fully understand your frustration. What is missing from these chores is a sense of random weirdness. What if, instead of killing fireflies to gain entrance to the water level, you have...

Poll: A new Appocalypse plot for gaming.

How about some surrealism in apocalyptic games? Imagine a world where a disease turns everyone into a murderous, dynamite juggling, sarin custard pie throwing version of Carrot Top who can kill you with a single bad joke. Or one where religious extremism turns everyone into killer nuns and...

    Gaming Black Holes

I cannot understand how anyone can 'play' Fallout 3 or GTAIV and get any enjoyment out of it. Personally, I hate nearly all RPGs (except ChronoTrigger for some bizzare reason) and the last two GTAs because all of these games force you to do mindless, boring tasks in order to get to the good...

    Is Mario done for?

Mario is relevant today as long as he still retains some elements of originality. Super Mario Galaxy was an unbelievably good game. It is probably the only platformer to have evolved the genre since Super Mario 64 and for that we should thank Miyamoto. Very few franchises, if any, have tried...

    Press X Not To Die.

At the moment, QTEs are not very interactive. All the QTEs I have played involve pressing one button in a very small window of time which has only one outcome in the game. Why don't developers try to force the player to make more tactical decision in a QTE instead? For example, the QTEs...

Ledger's portrayal of The Joker in "The Dark Knight"

Heath Ledger's performance ranks as one of the all time greats but it should not be forgotten that every great performance requires a great script. Whenever a script writer/ director is faced with transforming a comic book villain into a screen villain, they have always stumbled upon the same...

Improving the JRPG for the Next Generation.

I haven't played a JRPG since Chronotrigger on my cousin's SNES mainly because of all the problems that have been mentioned in this thread. However, I decided to pick up The World Ends With You on the DS and it feels like a breath of fresh air in this rather stale genre. There are far too many...

whats the most violent game you have ever played?

Manhunt or Condemned. Both of these games take violence to the next level.
