Could someone please point out all the ZOMG DOOMSDAY I keep hearing about.

I played Oblivion on both the pc and the 360, and they both controlled perfectly fine.
The way I moved the character on the 360 did not differ at all from the pc.

Gameplay mechanics have no bearing WHATSOEVER on which platform it is developed for.
They didn't 'cut' skills because it's made on a console, They cut skills because most were useless anyway.
Who ever thought 'lets not use athletics, I want to be a slow walker every single second."
So, now you just move good from the get-go, how is that dumbing down?

Also, wasn't there a post a while ago that mods might be heading towards the consoles as well?
What ever happened to that?

Discuss? PC gamers are a bunch of elitist pricks who will be upset by this. I really see no other reason why anyone would care what its developed for. On top of that the base-less accusation of "dumbed down" is getting on my nerves. What the hell does that even mean? Other then that... meh I don't really carer what they develop on PC and consoles are mostly the same.
So I suppose that means all console players are mentally handicapped and so need really easy to use, "sit down and play" mechanics? Don't generalize please, it just gets peoples rage up.

I'm a PC gamer, and I hated the complexity of Morrowind such that I never bought Oblivion, though I was looking at getting this. "Dumbed down" is normally seen as bad as it usually means a crappy port for PC. Normally design decisions and not limitations of the console itself but still because the developers are making it with console gamers in mind, which they figure have a much sorter attention span or something? Numbers are scary to console players? I don't know. The developers must think all PC gamers buy an game pad to play as I get tired of loading a game up and being told to press (A) to continue. If you can't even be bothered to change the menu buttons, then I have no hope for the tutorial actually teaching me any of the controls. So that isn't really "easily accessible" is it?

I don't care what it's developed on, just go with whatever is easiest and will result in the best game, but if it's being released on multiple platforms then you have to cater for them each separately. I bet PS3 never has the issue I described above, and it's hardly like it would take that much work to change even. Consoles and PC's have different specialties so it's nice to get a little love from devs sometimes with a game aimed at your platform, it just seems like PC's get very little of that lately besides Valve.

Also, why are mods seen as the end-all fix-it for PC games? I like my game to run well first, and then perhaps add mods/unofficial patches, not have them be a requirement to enjoy the game in the first place.

Since I was planning on getting Skyrim for my 360 anyway, these comments do not make me want the game any less - I think it will most liklly turn out to be a good thing.

Edit: I wonder if Bethesda will get their way to bring mods to the 360? That would make this game a lot more fun on consoles as well!

Edit Edit: I should also mention I though Oblivion was fun on Console, and so I'm expecting Skyrim will be too!

Mostly hate how the WRPG genera seems to be moving more in to hack'n'slash (and not even being good hack'n'slash gameplay at that). I was fine with stats being replaced with a perk system but less pleased when equipment is seemingly unbreakable now and food not even taking up weight. Seems like developers is trying to suck out any kind of consequence and survival out of the genera.

By next Elder Scrolls we probably will be having regenerative health and press the cool button to make awesome things happen.

how the FUCK can you DUMB DOWN Duke Nukem?!!!?!?!
You can only carry two weapons at the time instead of an entire arsenal, Duke now has regen health, Duke no longer kicks enemies, the map in the demo had no actual searching around the area and it was rather linear and it seems to be more cover-based.

So, it's basilica your run of the mill FPS that looks like Duke Nukem but doesn't play like it.

Hopefully Bioshock 3 wont disappoint.

I think this comment pretty much makes the entire thread.

I don't understand what all the fuss is about. The game isn't even out yet, I can't believe so many people seem willing to dismiss it already just because they're choosing to make it on the Xbox. 0.o

If I was a presuming kind of person, I'd say that they're probably the same people who'd refuse to buy Fable 3 now that it's been ported to PC..

I'm trying to be positive and think that translates to 'The ui won't be overly complex and horrible' but I think it's a little bit of a kick in the teeth to the original fans of the series perhaps.

The term 'get away from stats' makes me a little uneasy.
I'm a console gamer, but I have to agree with you. The term "get away from stats" gives me a bad feeling in the pit of my stomach. I LOVE stats! Its fun to get everything the way I want them in RPGs. I can't do that if I don't have my stats.

Well at least the PC gamers have the Mods. I heard Bethesda was planning to bring Mods of Skyrim to consoles too. Is that still going to happen?

I heard about Duke Nukem from someone who played the demo, but I hoped it wasn't so.

:( I guess Yahtzee was right. "A run of the mill brown dull shooter that any competent game company could have farted out in a year or so."

:( :( :( :( So sad.....

Relax guys it won't be dumbed down. Bethesda already confirmed tweaked UI, better graphics and mod support for PC. And they're not porting it from console to PC, they're making 3 separate versions of the game. The only bad thing is that they optimized the engine having in mind limited console capabilities. So it won't look a lot better on PC than it does on a console, only slightly better. That's what they meant when they said consoles are the lead platform.

I think they tried the same thing with Oblivion after Morrowind, and that worked out very well for me. I don't see a problem with this, the more people who play The Elder Scrolls the better, and besides, if it ends up being terrible (unlikely), then there are always mods.

Hopefully this simply means improved UI and controls.

I would like to say that everyone should follow Dice's example, develop for PC first, because adding features and changing things for PC after you've got your game running nice on consoles more often than not breaks it for PC.

Keep in mind that the demo only featured 2 areas, one of which was a brown desert and none of us have yet to play the actual game. Whether it's "grey/brown generic" has yet to be accurately determined.

Maybe...but how many times has the demo been real bad, but the game real good.

:) Oh well. We'll see soon.

No.

Do not adapt the entire game to the console. Do not make PC gamers play another console-->pc port.
First make the real PC version, then dumb it down for consoles.

People act like this will make the game worse for PCs. It's not like Bethesda hasn't developed for PCs before and you will get a shitty port. This just means UI won't be overly complex and easier to access with a controller and such. It's not like there aren't modding tools for the PC version or anything.
oh it's not the interface that annoys us, it's the cutting out of most of the RPG elements. As a previous news story mentioned, they've cut it down to 3 stats and a dozen skills, from a dozen stats (10?) and 20 skills in Oblivion. we're not worried about a shitty port of a game, we're worried about a shitty game. (well at least most people are, not like you can get my hopes any lower after Oblivion, they managed to make that game suck while keeping most of the Customization)
Usually i'm against this sort of thing, but Oblivion wasn't really that type of rpg. The stats were pretty superfluous.

I played for awhile, but ask me for any of the stats, attributes, or skills of my character? No fukin clue. All the numbers in Oblivion are so irrelevant to the gameplay that you don't really need to visit that part of the menu FOR SHIT.

As i said before, it's not a complex d&d type stat driven game, it's more about throwing into a world through a 1st person view, as if your the one out there actually exploring it.
True. I can't really think of a game that has more important stats than a D&D(or D&D like) game. If anyone else can. Feel free to teach.

oh fuck
first Duke Nukem and now The Elder scrolls getting dumbed down!
how the FUCK can you DUMB DOWN Duke Nukem?!!!?!?!
simple by making him weak and remove his ability to kick.
Sorry, but how is that dumbing down?
making him weak would actually make the game harder, and require more tact.
As removing the kick, I've seen several other melee orientated parts in the video so I suppose there is a alternative.

Also, I'm not sure if you implied this at all, so don't shoot me down if you didn't, but how is any of this the fault of consoles? Instead of... you know, odd design choices?

p.s. Don't get me wrong, I wanted Duke to be a walking tank with 50 different guns, and I am disappointed that it's not, but I wouldn't call it Dumbing down the game.

Dumbing down implies that features were removed to make the game easier, which removal of health does the opposite. And removing the feature of the Bag of Holding is not made to make the game easier, nor because controllers can't handle it (Hell, Duke Nukem 3D works fine on the Xbox360) It's just a design choice.
