The villain in the 'Alone in the Dark' movie.

All I could think about when I watched him was:
"WTF? Is this guy supposed to be the villain or something? What's his motivation, in fact what are his methods?"
Seriously that whole movie was a tangled web of plot muckup.
You watched the Alone in the Dark movie and did not die of the horrible acting because it's made by Uwe Boll?

Sovereign from Mass Effect. When asked why he's doing it, he responds that his motives are too complex for puny Commander Shepard to comprehend. Kind of redeemed with Saren, however.
Yeah, Sovereign struck me as a guy who was just in it "For the Evulz."

Saren at least had a good reason for what he was doing.
Even if he was an ass.
Yeah. I get the feeling that The Reapers' motives will be more fleshed out in the sequels though.
I hope so too; though I find the mystery of the Reapers' intentions intriguing. Doing it for resources or just for fun is far too...well, "organic" for them to consider. Whatever their motives, I hope it's truly a shocking revelation.

I also wonder how they're going to tie in with the rest of Mass Effect 2's plot, which, so far, comes across as a detour. An awesome detour, but a detour nonetheless.
I always assumed it was because they viewed organics as a problem more or less, and "us or them" situation, and wiped out life, and since they can't stop life from springing up and evolving, they set up the mass relay system and sweep in occasionally and cull the lot of us.

I was a survivor. The others with me were not so lucky...

The whole of Umbrella Corp. Why are you doing this? Since when did it seem like a good idea to research zombies?

"Yeah, we'll totally be able to turn a profit on killing half a city. Project approved. So, my fellow board members (yes-men) are we in agreement?"

"Yes!"

Makes you wonder who would want to work for umbrella. The job security (in all senses) must be terrible!
This. I love Resident Evil, but the motives for their power hungry, world domination ideals were just...terribad. I generally ignored it, and enjoyed shooting zombies.
Bad... and wrong... Badwrong... Badong?

Actually, I like terribad better :D sounds more dubious.

Anyhow... *prepares for fanboiz wrath*
Personally, my pet peeve would be Sephiroth, via Final Fantasy VII.

As far as I can tell, his entire reason for killing everyone and everything was... avenging his mother? Getting back at a race of dead people that basically don't exist anymore? Because he wields a giant penis extension and therefore must be "badass"? I tried playing the game (only reason I quit at the third disk was because a freak computer glitch wiped the hard drive of the computer I was playing with via disk and emulator, and I didn't own a PS1 at the time), looking it up in wikis, and even sat through the hour-long series of cutscenes from the game placed on the Advent Children DVD (which I bought for giggles), and I STILL don't really get what the fuck he was pissed off about. If its the first reason, then dear god someone give him a chill pill and a nursing cuddle. Because apparently he's the biggest momma's boy in the world :|

Also, the dumbass Nazis from Raiders of the Lost Ark. If they'd read the Bible, they'd know that people have died just from touching the Ark of the Covenant. On that line of thought, Ark of the Covenant would make an awesome band name, if it hasn't been taken already

Team Freakin' ROCKET.

Ah... the old pokemon show. could it be anymore shallow and predictable?

Seriously, after the nth failure to steal a pokemon via hot-air balloon and bad disguises, do you think there might be some motivational issues with the reoccuring villains that are the epic failure team rocket?

Order of the Sword in Devil May Cry 4. Was it ever told why they wanted to animate a giant statue of Sparda and get his magic swords? They wanted Yamato to open a portal to demon world, but why in the world would you do anything of the sort? And Sanctus was all "love makes you weak" and whatever. Who taught him that? (most definitely not his Sparda worship, because he was a nice guy). They just wanted to let demons take over the world and get super powers for the hell of it?

I'm not sure how to answer this myself, but I do happen to really like one of the lamest villains of all time: Garland from FFI. His threat? He will knock us all down!

I always thought his "motivation" was entitlement. For most of his adult life, he was normal, or, as normal as a soldier working for a monopolistic power company can be. Then, he learned that he was the last of some ancient race and that his mother had been the primary subject of a series of experiments upon said race, and promptly climbed up on a pedestal.

I never got the impression that he was out to avenge his mother, because he never gave the impression that he thought his mother was dead. He constantly referred to her as though she were still alive, and given the fact that he sent her to try and kill you many times, he may have been right. Rather, he seemed to be out to destroy the world simply because he thought he had the right to, as the last surviving member of a supposedly superior race.

Now, whether he was actually right about all of this (being the last survivor of an ancient race, being Jenova's genetic son, having a childhood) is a whole 'nother can of worms. Point is, his motivation was still pretty stupid.

"I'll destroy you all because I'm so much better than you that I can wipe out the world with one spell."

Weaksauce.

Swiper from dora the explorer (was that supposed to rhyme?) he has no backstory at all and apparantly trys to steal random crap for no reason. (aside) actually all the characters from dora are incredibly shallow. XD

Paolini was a young writer, so he just stuck with a generic villian, maybe the upcoming book will give us a more in depth view as he becomes a mopre expereinced writer.

As for Star wars, the empire freakin blue up Alderaan.....a planet, thats no biggy?

That can be said of a lot of children's show characters. Why, look at Steve from Blue's Clues. He doesn't seem to have a job, or hobbies, or any kind of life outside his construction paper house. He lives entirely to find things that his dog has walked on.

Bit sad, really.

Wow. I though I was the only one who thought this.

So let's get this straight, Chris Paolini. Gallbatorix is evil because his taxes are high, he can't defend his country and he's no more ruthless than your average king? Hold the phone, i've got some world leaders to kill. Your so-called 'good guys' are sentencing thousands of decent, hard-working people to death for not agreeing with their political views. That's some nice morals you've got going there.

It does seem kind of strange to me that in Star Wars the good guys are the insurgent terrorists while the bad guys are no worse than some supposed heroes in history. Was Napoleon evil? Julius Caesar? Queen Victoria? No. Ruthless bastards? Hell yeah, but not evil. They were just leaders who wanted the best for the people. And yet they were no worse than palpatine. The only reason palpatine is deemed bad is because he follows a different religion that was being persecuted by the 'good guys'. Bra-vo George Lucas. Thanks for brainwashing us with anti-semantic values.

I must admit I love the villains too, but the least thought-out villain (in my opinion) is the Russia Federation from Endwar. Why did they start WW3 and for what purpose?

Plus they get their asses kicked online all the time anyway, so it probably wasn't a good idea to start the war in the first place.
