and in my school you would be attacked by a roving band of rapists and would be well raped
Fixed and that gave me a funny picture in my head of a skulking band of kids who rape whomever they see

Eh well it is a pretty weird relgion but sure why not wear a full pirate costume? Ninjas get to wear full ninja costumes to school.
Its funny,but which religion isnt.

Christians believe in a man sitting on clouds who banged a chick who gave birth to a guy called jesus, whilst still being a "virgin".
Well it's not as obscure now since we get test tube babies and if god was omnipotent he already had this knowledge but I don't want to get into a large debate.

AFAIK, Pastafarianism is a parody, not a religion. I do not believe for a second it's that kids actual religion, so the school hardly did anything wrong. Also, if we accepted his claim of exercising his religion, then anyone could wear anything and claim it's part of his religion.

"A student has been suspended from school in America for coming to class dressed as a pirate..."

That's as far as I got whilst reading properly. I just scanned through the rest. If everyone in his school must wear uniforms (I doubt they do), then the kid is just asking for it. If not, then... I don't know. It's the schools call, not mine.

I thought it could be a viable religion until I read that they worship the "Flying Spahghetti Monster". You can't just make up your own religion and expect people to heed to your beliefs without question.

If I said I worship "Pizza Man" and he commands me to come to school nude, do you think people would have a problem? Using this logic, no, no they wouldn't, because it's my beliefs.

But that kid is awesome. I have to admit that.
OH MY GOD, The pizza man, that is the religion I have needed for all my life!
Monday, I am going to school, but leaving my clothes home, it is time to show the world what I believe!

in all seriousness, if you can be serious while talking about FSM.
the guy was just pissed at christianity, and wanted to make a point of the whole bullshit of it.

Religion should be taught in schools! Naw but he should be allowed to dress like a pirate.

*facepalms* I'm not really very impressed by either side. The kid for dressing up as a pirate and the school for feeling this was worth worrying about. This is how matters that should just be funny and amusing turn into depressingly serious business.

That said, at least the kid had guts. The school could've just dismissed the matter as an amusing quirk but instead chose to throw the book at him. Waste of a weeks academic work...

If the kid has this strong a belief in it (or cares about dressing up as a pirate this much) why stop him? Its school, you go there to learn, not to start up a political discussion. Avoiding confrontations takes priority, and this created trouble where none was needed. I guess the kid is technically in his rights, but I have trouble sympathizing with him for creating the conflict in the first place.

Then again, I suppose if he'd been turned back for wearing a turban I wouldn't be talking like this... I acknowledge this hypocrisy and apologise for it. If he claims it is his religion we must respect it. All are equal under the law and all that.

Sorry for the overly long edits. As someone who really doesn't care for dress rules, my biggest thoughts on these matters is "why the hell not?"

Some terrorists believe that it is okay to kill for a "just cause", ie. anyone that does not share their beliefs. Even Hitler thought he was "fulfilling God's will" by exterminating Jews.
A little off-topic, but you're wrong, actually. Hitler, and Nazism for the most part, rejected Christianity because they thought it was too weak.

You know, if I went to school in a priest's habit, I'D probably get suspended and you all would be on the side of the school. What, pirates make it okay?

But I think that people should be able to wear whatever they want as long as it's not profane or disgusting.
