Cut him some slack. He's got a game out in a few days, so he's doing some publicity.
And as long as his games are good, he can talk all the crap he wants, for all that I care for.
That's just the problem, they aren't.

:D
Alright, Gears has its moments, I know. It's very funny sometimes without really wanting to. ;)

You can critise a lot about it and I would probably agree on most things. I usually prefer a good story line to polished game mechanics.
Still, I really enjoyed playing it. I think it's really slick, the run-and-gun gameplay works quite well.

Think of Cliffy what you will but he puts a lot of passion in his games.

btw. his best quote yet:

Cliffy has become a real ass recently. The success has gone to his head.
Yeah, I remember him stating that the reason he wasn't going to release Gears of War 2 on the PC was that anyone smart enough to put together a decent system was also automatically a pirate.

I suppose that game designers are becoming more like politicians in that their stupid comments are difficult to keep out of the media nowadays....

Honestly, I can see where he's coming from, even if he says it in an arrogant way.

The Mirror's Edge demo looked really cool, and the concept is great as ever, but I was surprised at how clunky the controls seemed on 360. The mapping of LB/LT as the main action buttons makes sense on paper, but makes your left hand do too much work in practice. It was also jarring that there wasn't any "snap" (large hitbox) for your legs, just your arms - you can miss a jump or pipe by a few inches, but you'll snap to a hanging bar from as far as your arms can reach. The best platformers - Prince of Persia especially - have lots and lots of snap.

The basic pistol you get in the demo is terrible. You can't kill anyone with it from range, and neither can they, so there's no tension or interesting routes needed, just "run straight away from the bad guys". I'd be concerned too.

As for demos, they take a LOT of work on the development side, and Gears 2 doesn't need any more advertising. There are a bunch of XBLA games I downloaded and never paid for, because I'd gotten the fun in 5 minutes.

To be fair it's the first level. How hard should it be? Later levels have snipers and guys carrying shotguns and assault rifles. Seems like that might crank up the difficulty a bit.

It's the Prologue, which most likely contains only a small portion of the features of the full game.

Bad sex is better than no sex at all.
True, however, no sex doesn't get with 'awkward moments' like bad sex does.
Lol, I was about to say that. :p
Demo or no, I'll be waiting for the review before I hand over my money.

It's not that he doesn't understand. It's that dice doesn't understand how repetitive jerky and boring it is.

you know, I just played the Mirror's Edge demo (like, it just finished DLing on my 360), and I gotta say

it was sort of like

bad sex

I'm sorry that it didn't wow me like it's wow'd so many other people, and that I actually agree with this beacon of hate in the escapist community.

Not all games are for all people, and Mirror's Edge.. I sat down, I tried to like it, and it was good, and sort of pretty, but execution wasn't nearly as flawless as the looks and the hype made it out to be. I would never buy it.

CB's impressions on a lot of things should come into question, when they can be thwarted with facts, but an opinion about a game is a subjective thing, and you can't blame a guy for having an opinion.

This is the second time I've heard about his comment towards the demo. I think that EPIC didn't release the demo because Gears isn't a game that could work with one. I mean that, they are not going to release a multiplayer demo and the Gears of War storyline wouldn't work sperated. And about the whole "cheap sex" thing, I think he was just trying to say they didn't want to do a demo and he tried to make it funny. (And failed)

I heard that it's coming out for Xbox, Ps3 and PC (Can anyone confirm this?), so at least we won't have those mindless exclusive arguments.
According to IGN's listings that's right.

It looked a little clunky with the fighting, and why does she drop the pistol in the E3 run through? Is there some story reason for her not killing (like it being more real worldlike). This game really slipped under my radar. 14th is still zombiegeddon day though.
Amen Left4Dead, can't wait. I shall pass up what may be a good game with creativity and originality(mirrors edge) just to mindlessly kill zombies with 3 buddies. Maybe I'm a simple creature.

Ok, let me start off by saying this; DO NOT call me a GoW fanboy, because frankly, I hate the series. Cliffy B can RAAM a Lancer up his ass for all I care. But all puns aside...

This is being taken WAYYYYY out of context. He was saying that demos aren't what the initial experience should be, which I agree with.

Also, he did use the term gun-play or something like that, but if anyone actually read that article, he said that he would have liked to see some kinda of action in the demo, not just a bunch of running and jumping, which I agree with as well.

Wait, were is CliffyB lacking in understanding of Mirror's Edge? From what I read it seems as though he is expressing his belief that the game needs enemies.
So the cops and the harsh mistress of gravity are not enemies

hoooookayyyyyy.
Did you read the article? It's approximately five sentences, I could get a twelve-year-old on two cans of Mountain Dew to read it.
so your're saying your summary is wrong then? why did you even type it?

EDIT: So he says there's too much of the Entire Point of the Game

...do I even need to explain why that doesn't make any sense?
You need to explain how you derived those two points.

Cliffy said that he likes the gameplay he's seen for Mirror's Edge but he wants to see how the gunplay and combat in general works.
