You killed your dog because it was diagnosed with cancer?

Treatment would probably be a better solution, but whatever.
Look at the explanation, and realize how much of an ass you made yourself out to be. Please.
Jesus!! someone get that Pirate Kitty some accurate Music!!

That's not actually suicide, though. I think I heard somewhere that it has something to do with something screwing up their brains.
They're not trying to kill themselves, they are just kind of spazzing out.

I am far too exhausted to actually research this so forgive me if I am wrong.

I don't know if I should laugh or cry at what some people believe.

A troll? For not agreeing with you? Yes, everyone who thinks differently is a troll -_-
Oh, pish. You say that like I am even slightly interested in any of this.
Although, I must admit, it is a lot easier to believe you are just trolling than really that ignorant.

And they do, you know. I did kind of list a documented case. This shit actually happened.
What, you're saying somebody got tired of the massive cash she was raking in for them and decided to off her?
Don't answer that, I don't actually care what you're saying.

*Hugs for everyone* I have had a few experiences with it, my dog who I grew up with had to be put down, he was old and very, very ill and had bad arthritis and could not walk or run. My cat who I grew up with had to be put down, he was suffering from a gum disease and other illnesses. We could not save the animals, and we would rather not see them suffer as they were, they don't have the same understanding as we do about illnesses, it is more humane to stop their suffering then let it drag on.

Animals get ill just like we humans do, and when they are that ill, it is more humane to stop their suffering completely then to let it carry on and to make them suffer more, it is not fair to them to keep them living when they are just going to be living a life of pain. They are family too, and to watch them suffer is horrible, just like it is with a human family member.

EEEHHH. Wrong. Dolphins in captivity have been known to simply hold their breath until they die.
One notable case, the dolphin who played the part of Flipper. Look it up.

Also, dogs who spend their time being treated as little more than dress-up dolls tend to live significantly shorter lives, just because they lack the will to keep living through that crap.
You know the kind. The ones with the owners that talk in baby-talk almost exclusively and fork out hundreds of dollars to buy little frilly dresses for their clearly unhappy pets.
They also sometimes just stop eating to get out of it. Can't think of any notable cases, but I'm sure you'd find something if you searched hard enough.

But continue as you are, who am I to deprive a lady of her trolling.

I know you're on our side of the argument here, but if I remember correctly there was an article on Cracked.com that disproved the lemmings suicide belief.

Lemme find it...

Ah. Here we go. [http://www.cracked.com/article/105_the-6-most-frequently-quoted-bullshit-animal-facts/]
*reads it over*
That's what I stated later... it's not a "depression" suicide
it's the "OH CRAP WE'RE OVER POPULATED!" freak out that ends in the weaker (less rational lemmings if you will) freak and jump

they probably think as they fall "Well that wasn't a good idea"

oh well

just wanting to make my point properly

in all honesty I probably wouldn't be this PO'ed normally

just the fact that I like animals more then people... (long story) it ticks me off that this pretentious prick is griefing someone who lost a dog (something I hold with more value then a human personally)

o_O Oh wow I didn't know that about dolphins, but then again with studies in Behavioral Psychology I have come across certain notes and outlines clearly stating that animals will do whatever is necessary to get out of suffering at the moment. Well noted

Oh yeah. It pisses me off too. There are some things you just don't do. Genocide, oppression and what Pirate Kitty did are some of them.

I can't help but think that the OP didn't intend to create an epic argument over lemmings and whether animals have suicidal inclinations.

I kind of assumed they wanted to have an open discussion about grief and experiences with loss.

Someone said something wrong and claimed I didn't do my research.

I proved them wrong.

No fight.

My dog was put to sleep yesterday after being diagnosed with cancer...
This has really gotten me down, since I grew up with this dog, and now he's gone.
I couldn't even say goodbye, since a friend of my family was watching over him... :(
Sorry if I'm getting you guys down. My question to you guys is: Have you ever had an encounter with death inside the family or pets?
Edit: Treatment wasn't an option. It was a form of cancer that was inherited from his dad...
she was 12 years old and the cancer has spread far beyond being treatable.
Basicly every organ was infected.
Last night, I dreamed that my dog was there- in my dream, she somehow didn't die, but was still ill. She was on the couch, and I knelt down to eye level, and scratched behind her ear in the way that made her paw the air a bit. I'd forgotten what her fur felt like, and how warm she was.
It'll be a year the day after thanksgiving.

I know this is odd, but I really suggest grabbing something of your dog's. Something fabric, or a bit of their fur if you have any. The smell just puts you at ease when their being dead really hits you.

*sigh* Don't worry man, death is a serious ***** and if anything I'd like to give the Grim Reaper a good punch in the Jaw in my last moments of life....Oops off topic.

But you did the right thing man. You took your pet out of it's misery rather than continue to drag it on by putting it through a process that probably has a 1 in 1000 chance of actually working.

So I know this sounds really corny....especially coming from an Evil Bastard such as myself.
I'd like to think that in a way, your dog would thank you for doing what you did.
Trust me Death happens to all of us and it's the final moments and decisions you make that really matter, whether it's a pet or relative or even a friend. Hell I'm dreading the day my cat will pass on.

*Grim Reaper shows up at my door* I SAID LEAVE DAMNIT!!!

I did my homework too so read the other posts and quit being a pretentious dick

"I accept your apology now"

you're griefing someone who lost a loved one

you get no apology

what you will get is a crap-load of people mad at you until eventually a moderator will step in

but seriously you really have no brain at all do you?

quoting random sources without doing EXTENSIVE research?

just going by blatant incorrect statements like "Animals never committed suicide ever"
and "animals are not capable of compassion or feeling" (yes that one might be out of context I don't have time to sift through your crap again)

really stop trying to justify your crap

you're hurting someone who lost something

and now you're arguing with someone who values humans life less then dirt about it

just say you're sorry and leave the thread (not to me, to the original poster, I could care less about what people think of me)

on a side note I'm pretty sure everyone here (except you obviously) thinks you're being a massive idiotic douche (in lack of a better more intelligent word; I'm rather rushed at the moment)

RIGHT PEOPLE?!

*cough* that is all I'm off to my robotics class now, be back in 2 hours
need to fix the giant robot dog we have *sigh*

I was there to lose my Great-grandparents. I've lost several pets. 3 Escaped of which 2 got run over by a car. 1 Never came back and probably died somewhere (It was very shy and afraid so he probably hid somewhere). Lost 3 more cats to cancer and recently a kitten born here to VIP.

Since we breed cats, there are inevitable miscarries. One so far, and up to 4 kittens that died right before or slightly after birth.

My last grandmother recently drowned. This is so hard to swallow. Drowned of all things.

Rest in peace.

she didn't prove me wrong

she copied a random link and said "herp derp there ya go I winz!"

now as I stated before I need to go

but yes; stop trolling and just leave

there's like 5 people who have asked nicely now

so go before things get more out of hand
(everyone start hitting "Report" if she opens her fat freaking mouth again and spams us with more crap)

Same basic thing happened to my cat about a month ago. Total kidney failure, blood cells in the back of her eyes ruptured and blinded her. She had a week to live. I'm moved out and she's with my parents but I grew up with her. She was 14 years old.

Just remember your dog for the good times you shared, and don't think of them as being gone, but free of pain

Cut the kid a break, she most likely has a Superiority complex.

Those with a superiority complex may speak as if they are all-knowing and better than others. But ultimately they do not care if others think so or not, and will not care if others tell them so. They simply won't listen to, and don't care about, those who disagree.
Behaviors related to this in a superiority complex may include an exaggerated opinion of one?s worth and abilities, unrealistically high expectations in goals and achievements for oneself and others, persistent attempts to correct others (regardless of whether or not they are actually correct), a tendency to discredit others' opinions and over-forcefulness aimed at dominating those considered as weaker or less important.
