With the Doctors Screwdriver he says "Don't let them get to full power" I assumed he using the Screwdriver to suck the power out of the Silence that River hadn't killed yet so they don't get zapped.

meh that doesnt bother me- the doctor has always been ruthless- in fact one of things I love about Moffat is how he's given the Doctor his balls back.
I also like this ruthlessness of 11. 9 and 10 were always so forgiving, and I think it's good that the Doctor's personality also changes his morals a bit, rather than just making him more/less quirky.

I also hope that Time Lord girl isn't the Doctor's daughter from David Tennant era, because she was fucking annoying. I just didn't like any part of her.

I think the new regenerating girl will be a new character; not Dr's daughter, not River Song, but just Amy's daughter with Rory Stupidface that's been affecting by the TARDIS.

Other than that, this is the first time I've genuinely enjoyed Doctor Who in years. I got bored near the end of Tennant's last season, and wasn't interested enough to watch Matt Smith's first, but this new new stuff I like.
Plus, props to whoever thought of the idea of the Silence; close contender for my favorite villain in any Dr Who I've seen, the idea that they are unrememberable is genius. I doubt they're all dead, though. And I hope they are a recurring villain, sporadically however, if it was once per series it would get stale.
I prefer them better than the old Daleks and Cybermen because they feel like an alien species appropriate for this new Dr Who; the Daleks and Cybermen felt like the series was desperately clinging to it's old roots too much to me.

Man I LOVE the new series. But I am a bit worried... if Moffat doesn't give payoff to all threads he lays out I will be quite upset. We don't want a Lost scenario where he just throw stuff in there and then forgets about it. Oh, and the River Song-Doctor s timeline going backwards thing works, but only with broad strokes, they have shown at least one time (start of ep1) when it wasn't strictly backwards, and in "Silence in the Library" we hear abot the last time they met, clearly a point in the doctors timeline when he knew her. Also, if they just go backwards, why do they need to do books? As long as they adress that, I think it's a great idea, it gives for dramatic moments like in the end of this ep.
In short, if Moffat manages to tie up the plots before he leaves, this episode gets a 5, otherwise, I will have to use drastic measures... and duct tape...

Sadly, it was another poor episode. While the ideas were interesting, it wasn't very entertaining.

Interesting stuff with Rivers timeline. The last time she kissed the Doctor is the first time for him.
Am I the only one who found that sad?

Also, calling it now because someone has too, Pond Jnr = River Song.

Edit: After the pains they went to last season to show the Doctors celibacy re: Amy and show in this episode and last season how much she loves Rory, I doubt its the Doctors kid. Big, wild (but fun) guesses here, but I'm also calling Time Travel messes up Human DNA/feotuses and the Time Lords are actually evolved Humans with Amy's kid being either the 1st in a new generation or the first ever Time Lord.
Cannot be the first ever time lord as it has been said in many different episodes that time lords were around before humans on earth even existed.

Why the doctor didn't spare the silence....

Well,
1) He just said "run". Humans will kill them now, doesn't stop them leaving.
2) They play mind tricks, last thing he needs is to forget his mission
3) He knew he already did it (perhaps this IS a fixed point in time)
4) They were the invaders and he had no other way to deal with a PLANET full of aliens. Previously he has settled with the aliens when he can talk to them all and AFTER he has stopped their plans.
5) They started it, with no reason such as "our planet was destroyed" they just came and invaded.
6) It seems they blew up the TARDIS and have something to do with his death (not that he knows that yet)

Go team stupidface!

Also, did anyone notice that the Doctor single handedly brought down Nixon? I laughed quite a lot.
It was funny ^^

Also...... anybody else realise that the 1103 Doctor is still dead?
Yes. but I'm trying quite hard to forget about it. If I don't remember it, the Doctor can't be dead!
Yh the doctor dies, hence why they showed the girl regenerating, she'l be the new doctor

I reckon that the Doctor wasn't actually involved in the whole Amy becoming pregnant thing, but the fact shes being flying around in the TARDIS the whole time probably had an effect on her unborn child, assuming that the little girl is in fact her child.

No, stop it! We're going to end up with Team Doctor vs Team Stupid Face!

*also steps on the side of Team Stupid Face*

Also whats with all the hate for these new episodes? I'm quite liking them :(
2nd also, whats with the girl?? It better not be the doctors =_=
Indeed, new series is cool.
I really liked the story in the first two episodes and I liked the idea behind the bad guy, but I wasn't a fan of the darker tone. One of the reasons I like Doctor Who is due to the fact its always been light entertainment, but so far its been to serious for its own good. Also, I HATE too many unknowns/loose plot threads (reason I never got into Lost).

Also, Team Stupid-Face all the way!

Yeah, but unlike Lost I am confident the loose plot ends will be tied up eventually, not completley forgotten next episode. I guarantee everything will be tied up neatly by the end of the series, except there will be some NEW loose ends to get us to watch the next series.

Fab episode. Once again Moffat is playing us for Charlies. Damn it man will you stop weaving such rediculous webs, it's getting out of hand!

So River and the Doctor definately have a romantic history? OK. The kid is, what? Time Lord/Part Time Lord? If Amy's in the photo is she the mother, who is the father? Why is Amy only maybe-pregnant? Are the Slicence going to show up again? Is there more in the phrase 'Silence will fall' than meets the eye. Is their fall actually a bad thing?!

Will we ever know any of these answers? I jolly well hope so!

(*breaths*)

Yeah, good time had by all me thinks. It's certainly giving us stuff to talk about!

Edit: Also, awww, good old Rory, I'm glad he's got the girl.

The Docter does have a child. Coupla series back he ran in on a war and was cloned. His daughter was shot by the end but then regenerated and blasted off into space, we haven't seen her since. Pretty sure it's her after a coupla regenerations.
But why would a 20odd year old regenerate into a child....
Well... the Doctor has been getting progressivly younger with each Regeneration...

in two minds about the episode- the bit in the orphanage was brilliant and how the doctor defeated the silence was likewise but theres still something about it that doesnt sit right.
I'll tell you what didn't sit right for me:

I don't like guns! Killing is wrong and I deposed a prime minister for it! Genocide is bad and I locked away my own people, a version of myself and stand against it no matter what!

I just made the entire human race into murderers through hypnosis and forced them to commit genocide! Problem, Shadow proclamation? Trolololololol
See, everyone seems to forget the 9th Doctor's potential kill count...

Thought Id throw in on the side of Team Stupidface- love the character; pure geek wish fulfilment- someone who at 1st glance appears to be a total wimp but when its crunch time turns into a total badass.

Actually I didn't, I just also remember that he was disturbed and even backed down from killing the Dalek the second it became obvious he didn't have to.

To reiterate; Doctor kills aliens, fine. Doctor kills all aliens, also fine. Doctor brainwashes human beings into killing them and does this as his first option, absolutely not fine.
I just realized something... isn't the Doctor almost overdue to turn into the Valeyard or something...

Oh those bastards.

That's it. I'm not watching any more episodes until the entire bloody season is out then I'm watching it all at once... yeah let's see how long that idea lasts. I give it until next Sunday morning at 4am again.

Well worth getting up early. Good episode, who is that actor that played Canton? I love him, he's in a whole heap of shows I watch, very awesome dude, I hope he shows up more in the series.

On the damn side the actor they picked for Nixon only bears a very superficial resemblance, and didn't sound a bit like him, but it's not as bad as the one they picked for Churchill last season.

Mark Sheppard, (aka Badger, aka Crowley, aka Romo Lampkin, aka a minor character in almost any science fiction series in the universe...)
