This planet is known as Catagonia. And its people are still here. Don't believe me? Go to Egypt and find your way into some of the oldest tombs. Check the stone calendar tablets for the third saturday of every month. No, that C isn't supposed to be an S. It is not a typo of Saturday.

And you thought they were cute little animals. Soon they shall summon the Long Beast and the Tseab Gnol. Then as this era of concrete and steel draws to a close under fire and smoke, they will at last regain their true forms and rule as they always had.

Dies felis venturabit.

Isnt earth also called Terra?

i like that name, lets use that, i surpose the name earth originated when a scientific mind asked a man, "What are we standing on" and the man replied "Earth Idiot, soil, ground, Dirt, christ almighty your thick" least thats what ill tell young people, i enjoy distorting young peoples view on reality.

I don't know why Star Trek/Wars always refer to a planet by the species that comes from it (Kardasia, Romulus) and even the aliens themselves go along with it!
In theory those aliens named the planets themselves.
I'd be on the next Starcruiser of this planet if it was named Humulus, its just agonisingly Annoying.

The Sun's official name, official as in permanently archived, is Sol. Yes that's a word that means "sun," but that's its name. The moon is catalogued as Luna even though oly the romance languages use that word. I don't know whether the Earth is catalogued as Terra, but it would fit considering we take most of our astrological names from Greek and Latin. And aliens probably would name their planet after either the soil or one of its other resources, or after their species as well. They will have societally evolved from a stone age equivalent as well, and societies have named their land after their society for ages.

I hadn't considered that

earth was actually once known as dearth. as in, dearth of anything resembling life or resources of any kind.

then the great and powerful oz made us people and the resources we needed, and it was no longer called dearth, for now there were people and plentiful necessities for life, thus dearth was renamed.... EARTH.

BUT... when we finally suck this planet dry and die off ourselves, the earth will be returned to its original state of desolation, and will be returned to its original moniker.

It's weird how everyone decided on the same name but I see what the OP means. We call it Earth, Aliens could call it Splodgahonk. But it's still pointless cos we still call it Earth..

if Earth still had dinosaurs we'd call it Urth.

Anyway, aliens aren't going to care much for what we call it. They're simply going to strike it for resources.
You get a cookie for the Primal Rage reference!

That was one of my favorite games.

Yeah, but someone specifically named it Earth as opposed to anything else.

I call it hell, but what do I know.

Sol 3 perhaps?
Officially, Sol is the name of the sun, but honestly, i would prefer if we did change it to Solaris, it sounds far better then Sol, which honestly is quite a bad name.

How are we supposed to know what aliens would call Earth?

Maybe they would call it something like "The Blue planet" in their language, but that's only a guess based on the appearance of the planet. They could call this planet whatever they want.

Since aliens wouldn't be speaking English or any other language we can understand my assumption is that this is like all other things involving aliens "translated for stupid humans". If you watched a movie and couldn't understand what any of the alien characters were saying it would really screw up the narrative. The other option is to have aliens who you don't see or hear at all like in Independence day.

This thread hinges on a very stupid premise.

I think the earth should remain named earth, but the sun is a weird name. I mean, we don't call the earth "Planet".

Earth, Terra, Gaia, Sol-3, pick whichever one you want, they are all as valid as each other.

Gaia and Sol-3 have more grounding as Gaia is the name of a greek goddess and fits with the other planets. Sol-3 is a good one as our sun is Sol and Earth is it's third planet.
