KOTOR.

"Wahhh, the combat is boring!" It's a fucking RPG. Jesus it's not an action game, it's a western RPG based on D&D. The idea is to role play, not metagame.

Edit: And I suppose FF7/Tactics. That was a golden age of JRPGs. I'm sick of people jumping on the bandwagon of Cloud-bashing etc. I don't think I've ever heard a bad thing said about FF tactics (the PS one).

Amen Brother, albeit the soviet expansion felt like discovering you had taken a wrong turn and entered a scatrape orgy.

Also sacred to me are Fallout 2 and Tetris, though the latter solely because we waste so much time in college classes gabbing on about entertainment and politics.

Definately Morrowind. Oh, and GTA SA too.

Majora's Mask, Spore.

If it's a valid point, then I won't be an jerk about it, but i'll still defend it.

EDIT: Oh and Sonic Adventure 2: Battle. BEST. SONIC. GAME. EVER.

i'll always make the arguement for some of my favorite PS1 titles (tombi/tomba, legend of legaia, the original spyro trilogy) but if your after modern games then i'll say: fallout 3, smash bros brawl and saints row 2.

Well, first off the Halo series. Do I think they deserve the near godly status they've risen too, probably not. But mechanically, stylistically, even narrative-ly they are undeniably great games (particularly Reach).

The Wii remake of the Metroid Prime trilogy is one of the few things I consider to be quite literally perfect. Seriously, it needs nothing added and nothing removed. It completely achieves everything it sets out to be.

Modern Warfare 2 is another. The first game never seemed that realistic to me, it was an action movie made interactive through and through. So when the second one kicked it up a notch it never seemed strange (but I do agree the storyline will give you a headache). And the multiplayer wasn't that broken either, just extremely chaotic.

But I really get annoyed when people complain about Indigo Prophecy. Yes, the plot went weird in act three, but if you actually pay attention to the mythology they try to establish you can see that its not that far off base. It just had some trouble explaining what things really meant. Although there were a few things it did that were just plain stupid.

Also Silent Hill 2. What more do I have to say?

And of course the Myst series. They may not be the best adventure games ever, or even necessarily my favorite games ever, but they are untouchable. That is a fact.

I should probably stop there, but I'm pretty sure I could keep going if I really thought about it.

Ratchet and Clank (1). That is how you do a platformer/third-person-shooter.

Alternatively, any of the Sly Cooper games.

I can deal with criticism but I'll defend the honor of these ones against any unjust comment:

Thief 1-3
Undying
Wheel of Time
Vagrant Story
Xenogears
Gabriel Knight
Condemned 1
Wild Arms 2
Last Blade 1&2
Classic SNK stuff (SS, KoF, AoF, FF)
