The ending of Half Life 2: Episode 2. There's something about that feeling of helplessness that really got to me - similar to the end of Half Life 2 itself (I've never been as angry at a game character as with G-Man in that moment).

Most recently MGS4 (the bit when Raiden should have died saving snake and the ending where snake should have... y'know) and the bit in COD4 where the American soldier gets caught in a nuclear blast. That was genuinely scary and moving. Those guys went back for someone knowing they were probably going to die and did it anyway.
Also, as someone else previously mentioned - EE's death scene in MGS2. I also tear up whenever Nanaki learns the truth about his father Seto in FF7. Its one of my favourite scenes in gaming.

No game ever has. Perhaps it's because I'm emotionally dead, but more likely because I have yet to find a game that truly grabs me emotionally because the majority of them feature lifeless and one-dimentional characters, and the rest of the time I just don't respond because I never do to people on a screen. The closest thing to emotion I have ever felt was in World in Conflict, in two places. Firstly, when Captain Bannon allows himself and his company to be nuked to stop the Soviet invasion, which was the closest a game ever came to stirring my frozen heart. The second was when I deliberately failed the Statue of Liberty mission just to see them blow it up (incidentally I was rewarded with the General's comm trooper (aka. his *****) throwing up and the sight of it). Call me messed up if you like, but it put a smile on my face for the rest of the day.

The end of Final Fantasy X was quite emotional although predictable, but the latest was probably Crysis... Namely the death of Major Strickland, when he sacrifices himself so you and the others can escape.

the metal gear games, Gray Fox dying, Otacon's speach after E.E dies, and the end of MGS3, when Snake goes to the bosses grave :'(.

I also found myself getting extreamly pissed off with Soap at the end of COD4.

'Get off your god damn ass! I dont care if your shot, everyones shot! And youve taken RPGs before this! They're gonna f***ing kill Gaz! move!'

Me i'm a big JRPG fan ( oh GOD what would yahtzee say.. the shame the shame) but i love the stories though they may pretty much be twists on the same thing everytime i still like them and they've always touched me emotionally.. there's also COD4 while i'mplaying online, the exhiliration of a nice headshot and the psychotic rage at 3 deaths without a kill lol

Kings Quest six, because I never clicked on the stupid %*#(*% brick on the ground so I was never able to stop the stupid *$(*@(%^ ceiling in the catacombs from crushing me like an insect.

*Spoiler Alert* CoD4

The part in Call of Duty 4 when you see the nuke go off and where you go around as the marine in the ruined city and realize... he dies :( made me sad i was like "he cant die... noooo... he just cant.. main character" and in the end of the game where everybody dies on the bridge and then the russians come in and rescue's you.

SotC, once you view it in retrospect. I didn't get all the story elements the first time around.

MGS3, the ending. That scene when Snake was standing near the grave of The Boss. The scene really struck a chord with me, given that it was me who had to pull the trigger. Also part of the reason is pointed out in the game: The Boss will be remembered by America as a monster who tried to incite a nuclear war, while the Russians will remember her as a traitor. To be hated even on death, I think that's what really got me there.

Shadow of the Collosus, though I've never beaten it, seing some of the giants, anthrpomorphic error gets the best of me. FF IX, first one I beat, had to re-play it, cause I was stuck at kuja (first real rpg, had no idea what I was doing), felt so good for them at the end. Mass Effect, though I never really got connected to the others in combat, I still felt for them, the whole planet where Ash and kaiden split up, the genophage, later, with the "non-vital staff" comment. In bioshock, the girl we see the ghost of, her betrayl, "you promised me prety, Steinmen!" The lady nursing the gun in the carriage in the very beginning. Prolly some others I'm missing.

Don't think this has had a mention yet, but the protoss cinematic end of Starcraft - the Gantrithor suicide mission. There is a great shot of the uber calm ship interior just before it explodes.

On multiplayer - I've never felt the same team-buddy sense as playing BF2. The first time with legs dangling out the back of a blackhawk with 5 other players, cruising 10 ft above the ocean suddenly felt like being in black hawk down. None of the twitch shooters rely on squadmates as much as BF.

Oh, and playing through Prey got an emotional response - the response was hate. Worst game i have parted with money for in quite some time.

Shadow of the Colossus, I spent about five minutes at the end trying trying to run from the vacuum, and then came honestly close to crying by the end. Bioshock, there were tons of moments that just made me pause, like when you find the room with "would you kindly" written everywhere and what really happened in the beginning. Overlord was one of the first games to really make me laugh like crazy at some points. "For da Overlowd!" There's probably a fair number of other games, I just can't think of 'em.

I'm another one for COD4 playing as the dying nuke victim was pretty sad and the end aswell, I assume Soap died Either that or he passed out either way it was really well done.
