Pretty much if you get a mod who respects the site and you say something very misogynistic(which is a headshot for your account if it's off-topic as well), hombophobic, or just plain ignorant and hateful.

I'd suggest not worrying about it as you just have to look at the TOS and you'll know what can get you kicked, but interestingly enough, nothing to get on the mods' good side... Hmm...

Their ban letters are very rude though and will make you feel like a complete douche for the rest of the day on just such the occasion that you successfully garner the Mods' wrath so don't go looking for the man in the cave to give you the paper that gives you the ban-potion.

zelda referenecs FTW.
So... you've recieved mod wrath before? And forgive me, but was the last bit a refeence to something else, because if it was it just went completely over my head.
Maybe I have... Anyway, in the Legend of Zelda(LOZ) you had to find an old man who had a scroll or piece of parchment and he would say, "Take this to the old woman..." and you take it and you go to an old lady and instead of her just sitting there, a sound tomes and you get potions- that was my referencing.

A good rule of thumb is to stop for a few seconds after you finish typing up your post and even reread. Never post when you're angry.

CAREFUL! An earlier poster said that saying anything that will get immediately recognised on the cesspit known as /b/ will get you banned.

He always had to be dramatic.

I guess he was making sure he wouldn't change his mind later.
But of course, what's a dramatic exit without the drama?

And surely the whole, sex with people thing might've been enough to keep him, so to speak, at it? :p

Ok, now I'm not sure if you're joking or not. I'm going to guess that you are, but... The Escapist doesn't really seem to like 4chan.

That's the whole debate isn't it?
Keep in mind though. Moderation is another word for censorship.
And yes, I am aware, censorship does not support freedom of speech.
Yeah, I do know what moderation means.

But if you really look into it, you do not have any freedom at all. There's no such thing as "controlled freedom". Sure, some shackles are bearable to wear for the sake of the greater good of society - but why lie about it and call it freedom?

There are a lot of things even your "freedom of speech" doesn't let you say or do. Not to speak of other freedoms.
I don't know about you, but I do have some freedom and I tell you after having looked into it.
One's freedom ends where that of another person begins. I live by that rule.

As for my freedom of speech, it obeys the same laws. However. All my speech (words) can do is harm the psychological integrity or feelings of another.
This question thus arises.

Is there such a thing as the right to not be offended?
If there is. It means that my freedom of speech can go as far as it doesn't prejudice somebody's right to not be offended.
Reciprocally, that person's right to not be offended can be sustained as long as it does not come in the way of my freedom of speech. We reach a dead end.

Fortunately, there is no such thing as a right to not be offended. For that reason, speech cannot be impeded under motives of offense. All there is is taste, socially acceptable speech and sensitivity.

In short. I have the right to offend "you". "You" don't have the right to censor me. This is true in the real world outside the window.
What is true in a chat room is still open to deliberations and is relative depending what the website name is. Because jurisprudence has not set foot for very long in the internet and because there are still a lot of grey areas that aren't of capital import (like the one we're discussing).

It's actually quite hard, you have to build up a reputation and get suspended at least once.

Or post a thing advertising a vibrator. That's the easy way.
I almost want to test this. Almost.

Or something really pornographic can work also (no i havn't tried it and i'm not going to). I know my boyfriend won't use an image that he has for his Avatar only because he's worried that it goes against the rules, though personally it doesnt show anything major (if you want to see it then click this link to take you to his channel, the image is straight infront of you[link]http://www.youtube.com/user/TheDevilWearsWabbit[/link]. I honestly can't see why it would cause a major problem but oh well. I hated it when i first saw it. Now im so used to seeing it, its like a calling card for him lol, its a shame he wont/cant use it.

No offense, but if you were banned for this the irony would make my head explode a little.
Just a little?

What, you would pop an eardrum or something?

You are one lucky Irishman.. That sentence made more sense than I expected it to. I used to know you as "That guy with the dude in his avatar and the big PROBATION stamped everywhere"

Anyway, ive never been put on probation, but ive been banned for 3 days or a week, I dont remember which and ive had a secret grudge against the escapist since then.

I prefer the term "Zomguard"

Depends really, in most cases it's just a troll who has earned there ban.

In the case of Max the Reaper and No More Sanity, it's continuous bad behavior. Both posters were warned multiple times and they never learned their lesson.

If you behave yourself and follow the rules and guidelines, then you won't have to worry about a permaban.

Can't you just request a ban?

Like a post saying "HEY MODS,
Yeah don't wanna say it just in case
Yep. RAKTheUndead requested a ban so he could go off and actually have sex with someone for once.

That wasn't a joke by the way, that's the reason he gave me.

Well, I say good luck to him!
Fair play to him I suppose - couldn't he have just, you know, walked away and done that anyway? :p
I don't know...

a) One night of hot, sweaty, salty sex.

or

b) An eternity on the escapist forums.

So... difficult... to... choose...

Or you can always go the easy way of posting hardcore pornography or something. Although I'm not sure if that's going to get you banned first time, they might just edit the post and suspend you - never seen it happen. You can be the first! You go, an hero!
It is. A user a while back by the name of Darth Empyrean got what would have been a suspension upgraded to a flat-out ban because she used porn links in the hotlinks.
