Considering when it first came out, the PC market didn't exactly put out anything in the FPS genre that year that blows it out of the water...
there was auctually a small lil controversy over this game.

you see way back in 1999 bungie released previews of the game which was going to be released for mac and pc. It was even an RTS at one point. IN 1999!!!!

a few months later, microsoft bought bungie studios so they could put this game on their upcoming XBOX.

when you realize that the game probably could have been so much more, but was bought out and re-engineered so it could fit on a microsoft console, you can kinda see why theres some hate for it.

There's a problem with using sites like Metacritic and Rotten Tomatoes.

Matches my opinion pretty well.

Halo (Halo 3 especially) is a fun game to play, but only with other people. On your own, I find, it's a bit lonely.

Besides, I already have the original Halo on PC, so you're not doing any harm to the PC Gaming master race anyway.

Hey, Halo was one of the few games at the time that offered co-op campaign play, so if you were one of those people who like playing video games, AND actually liked to be around other people, it was insanely fun. The sequels were too short, but again, I never played them by myself. Play co-op, and it turns into a different game. The multi-player is fun, but it can't hold a candle to TF2. In summary, I thought the Halo games were fun, but that is just my opinion.

Because the PC version came out in 2003, and Deus Ex came out in 2000, and UT came out in 1999.

There were already much better and innovative games than Halo around.

Anyway, if you seriously think no good shooters came out in 2001 for PC, have you ever heard of Max Payne?

World War II Online came out in 2001 too, which I didn't know, but that was way more revolutionary than Halo ever will be.
I didn't say it was the best game ever. I didn't even say it was innovative. I just said that it was good for its time.

Also, where in heaven's name did I say no good shooters came out in 2001? I just said nothing in 2001 that I can remeber was drastically better than Halo, that's all. Max Payne and Deus Ex were both great games, I won't dispute that, I never did. UT was OK, made for some good LAN play back then. But as I said, I never disputed that...

See, now that's something new! Never heard about that before. I guess if they were making it an RTS, maybe it was along the lines of Battlezone (FPS + RTS)? I guess Halo Wars will be a trip down memory lane for them then :p

While it's not dire, the weapons are ridiculously unbalanced, multiplayer is ruined by bunnyhopping, and jesus fucking christ it is repetitive.

People slam it because of the people that hail and worship it.

It is an acceptable game, but if people see people on one end of the scale then they have to run to the other end for no reason other than they want to seem different but end up falling into one of any number of generic categories.
No, I truly dislike Halo. It's fun with friends but then again, most games are.

As for Halo being mediocre, I'd say it's better than that. Considering when it first came out, the PC market didn't exactly put out anything that year that blows it out of the water...
:]
Your point?
