OK, here's a quick fix:

Go to a local library. Ask for a copy of the Internal Revenue Code and start reading it from the beginning. Our studies have shown that gaming interest will reappear in roughly 2-4 minutes.

Go to Kongregate or somewhere, flash games are different enough to keep you interested for a while. Or learn to program or play football or something, hell I don't care what you do but I do know that when I get bored of gaming, doing something else for a while helps a lot ^_^

I really am. I never thought I'd see the day, but here it is. I cannot be bothered to play video games anymore.

It began a few months ago, when my habits began to change. Usually I'd come home, stick whatever I was currently playing through in the Xbox, and spend a few hours with it. More and more, though, I found myself coming home, looking at my games collection, and thinking "meh". On weekends I used to wake up early and get a solid few hours of playing time, whereas now I'm more likely to watch crap TV instead. The last game I played all the way through was Mass Effect 2, which managed to keep my attention throughout. Since then, my rental company has sent me a ton of other games, most of which I've played for a few hours and sent back, regardless of how fun they were.

The real kicker was Red Dead Redemption, a game I'd been anticipating for a long time. Hell, I even pre-ordered it, which I've never done for a game before. I love the game - it's fun, incredibly atmospheric, and the story is good enough to keep my attention. At first I was doing everything; treasure hunting, random events, poker games, the ambient quest thingies like hunting or flower picking. Unfortunately, around the point I opened up the third area of the map, I just stopped playing. Occasionally I'll pop the disc in and attempt a mission, or kill some wolves, but I'll soon be bored again.

The thing is, I still want to play games. I'm still getting games from my rental service (Brutal Legend and Aliens vs Predator currently, both of which I've played briefly and turned off) and I still get the urge to play my games, but whenever I try my attention wanes. I still haunt these forums to talk about games, and read the gaming news for things I'm looking forward to, but that's as far as it goes.

I don't know what to do about this. I've become a gamer who doesn't game. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Half of it is age the other is new games suck these days.

Happens to me every once and a while, just take a break and do something else for a while. Try not playing anything from now until the next game you want is released.

Yeah, i look at my game collection, ponder what to play, sigh, than close the drawer.
It was the same with me a while ago, before I got the PS3 and couldn't even play online. I opened the drawer where every of my48 PS2 games were, sighed, and then closed it again.
Online play makes things more fun though.

To OP, walk away from gaming a while, take up another hobby instead, go for a cycling trip instead of gaming etc. It should take your mind away from gaming a while. When you come back, relaxing with a game is a little more fun. It has always helped me.

Just the natural progression of a hardcore gamer.

You've probably played a lot of major releases, and had a lot of fun in the process. You're looking to continue that enjoyment, but the latest AAA titles aren't inspiring the same feelings. You can't understand your disinterest, because the games are plainly amazing - great graphics, design, etc. Why aren't you psyched anymore?

The sad truth is you're evolving as a gamer. The same canned gaming experiences aren't going to satisfy you at this point. You need to seek out more challenging and original material, and that means stepping outside of the mainstream.

I... might be projecting.

Stop playing NOW.

Seriously, just walk away. Give me your pump, the oil, the gasoline, and the whole compound, and I'll spare your lives. Just walk away and we'll give you a safe passageway in the wastelands. Just walk away and there will be an end to the horror. I await your answer. You have a full day to decide.

...wait.

This happend to me too and I have just recently started playing again. I suggest you just stop playing for a while and do something else like watching movies, going outside or something. Then when you start playing again DO NOT play bad games or even decent games, play games you love and can play for hours.

I am in the same place you are, what I do is that I take a break from all gaming and just relax. After some days I pop in a old game like OoT or anything from last gen and back. If this dose not help all I can say is.

You say that you still whana play game, right? Then just relax and take it easy.

OH MY GOD
Dude, that is NOT normal. Please, I'm worried about you- see your doctor, ASAP.
My doctor said once that lack of interest in video games is a possible symptom of many things, including DEATH.

That actually worked for me once; just replace IRC with "That one Shakespeare that I really hate"

I've found that having hobbies aside from videogames help me enjoy them a lot more. I started working fulltime recently in addition to forming a baseball team, so I've barely had time to play videogames. However, when I do play, I have the time of my life!

At the moment, all I'm really playing is TF2, but I haven't experienced the slightest pang of boredom and it's been a few months now. I suppose it could be the awesomeness of TF2, but it sure feels like playing less makes me treasure the time I spend on the game.

You give me as much gas as I can carry and I'll drive that tanker.

I've been through the same thing recently but eventually I realised that I wasn't bored of gaming, I was bored of modern gaming and was craving something more interesting than the piles and piles of "spectacle" shooters and simplified RPGs etc.

My advice would be try looking back at older games that you never got to play, or as others have said, try some new genres. I know it certainly helped me.

OT: Either take a break and come back, try a new genre, or try something completely different. I was kind of like you, couldn't get into any games, and then Transformers:War for Cybertron came out and was such a twist on normal third-person shooters, and was so different that it got me right back into the gaming mindset.

This has actaully happened to me a few times, not just with gaming either

Maybe your style of gameplay has changed, what type of games do you play the most?

It's pretty normal really.

Just give it a bit of time, once some interesting new releases come out your interest will go back up.

I'm actually taking advantage of my 360 being dead and going back to play Silent Hill on the PS2, awesome game :)

Yeah I've had this happen in the past and what I generally do is go back to an old game and delete all of my save files. After that I try to get further in the game than I ever got.

Once I'm successful I feel like I did something that didn't have a gamerscore attached to it I can go back to my Xbox without worries.
