Yeah, but you've gotta consider how any two fairly attractive people with a camera can distribute free porn nowadays, so it's not like companies can really combat either the Internet in general, the prevalence of amateur pornography or the existence of Porn-Tube websites.

I quite frankly don't see how the industry can ever start seeing more money/business than they are now (such as it is), unless extremely obnoxious obscenity filters become mandatory worldwide, thereby forcing people to pay out for smut.
THAT'S BRILLIANT! It's time to make Google Safesearch MANDATORY!

My favourite doc on the subject was HBO's 'Pornotopia: Going Down in the Valley'.

But porno movies will never make as much as regular movies because of volume. The same girl can make 40-50 movies in the same year!

Plus ANYBODY can make a porno movie. All you need is a camera and a craigslist posting account.
TO CRAIGSLIST!
Dananananaaa!

I'll get my camera!
What should our posting state?

Actors who don't act are hitting hard times. Meanwhile, the worthwhile films from the crew at Digital Playground are still doing quite well, with movies that aren't just about the boobies and squelching noises (often being devoid of those particular noises in favor of an immersive score.

Lol yea I knew a few of 'em. And for all their posturing, free pron is still free pron. Until they convince me that I would care if the supply dried up, it's all good for me.

This is bad, porn stars might have to get real jobs.
Ya know, I'm actually going to have to take an exception to that Warped_Ghost.

Granted yes, we could complain that compared to a police officer or engineer or doctor the weight of a porn star certainly does not compare.

However, I will defend the porno industry in this sense. They do have real jobs and at the end of the day they do actually create a product for people to consumer. It is a form of exotic entertainment just like Hollywood industry, and yes even the video game industry. They employ multiple people who need to be professionals like audio editors, video editors, key grips and of course the porn stars. Nevermind the actual companies that create the DVDs and distributors or the retailers. It certainly is a closet based product for the consumers but if you think about what gets exported across the world the porn industry certainly does warrant its existence compared to the new service based economy that is exists.

It is the same with the Anime and even the Hentai industry. They are an exporter to the United States thus increasing the economic wealth of Japan.

Also ask yourself this if these porn stars got "real jobs" would they really be better off starting their careers over? I'd find it hard for people who are willing to risk losing their salary just so they could get a career doing something "socially acceptable".

Besides if I'd want to say to people to get real jobs I'd be saying that towards wall street who are just making money out of money and get to make bets on bets ensuring they are going to be making money regardless. That type of behavior destroyed the world economy into a great recession. You won't see that from the video game industry, hollywood industry, and the porno industry because unlike the finance industry they actually produce an actual product.
I agree with this, but I have to note: pornography isn't dying because of piracy. It's dying because of innovation. The professionals, including all those expensive audio editors, key grips, etc. are simply being out-competed by people who deliver the important part of the product (sex on camera) without bothering with all the things that make professional pornography cost something. Sex on camera available at a moment's notice is very commoditized. It's not as if one can copyright the human body-- only specific human bodies-- and most of us just aren't that picky.

So what do we need? We need the pornographic equivalent of a particular sort of agriculture subsidy. Everyone should get a government check for every year that they don't have sex on camera-- just like farmers get (or got) checks for leaving fields fallow. That way there will be less of the commodity and people will more likely want to buy the professional stuff that is left. Unfortunately there will still be foreign competition. So we'll need tariffs that work over the internet. Also, a purge of all the free material that is there already. Yes, that is what will save the professional porn industry.

Good. I hope the entire industry disappears.

I certainly wouldn't support a law against pornography, but I wish it would just silently disappear.

Maybe next we'll have the tobacco growers making a video about how the anti-smoking ban is hurting their living?
Funny thing is that they have to pay for the anti-smoking adds

These are people that earn their living being pleasured in ways many people can only dream about, and I'm supposed to feel what about them, Sympathetic? I know, I know, I've heard all the stories about how hard it is to be a porn star, working long hours, having to have orgasms over and over again so they can re-shoot extra footage for the editors, being pleasured sometimes for hours on end, wah wah wah. If that's their idea of a tough job, I know some inner-city teachers and cops that might beg to differ. I digress...

They have lots of amazing sex for a living... they'll get my pity in the next life.

These sites demand monthly subscriptions for more than the cost of a WoW account. More than the cost of a "Love Films" account even: a system that allows one to watch as many DVDs in a month as one likes.

If the porn industry stopped charging 1000% more than the cost of a ticket to see a movie that cost 100,000% more to produce, I imagine they'd see a lot more customers.

Besides anything else, I consider the entire video moot because I don't agree that downloading = stealing. It's just a bunch of gross people hypocritically bitching about perceived unfairness.

The porn industry... go under...? Because of piracy? LOL whatever.
Pretty much the best point anyone can make on this thread. Far more serious things have tried to destroy the porn industry, yet it's still hugely successful.

If DVD sales stop then subscription based online content is the way forward, then that's what they'll do, if it gets really dire they'll stop allowing people to save movies to their hard drives or implement some other DRM. This will hardly kill the industry.

Don't really care either way. Trying to give that crap up (Got more into my faith). If the porn industry collapsed, it'd make my life much easier.
