Dictus's fangs sank in and the Ekans twisted and bit back. "Wrap" Brandon said as Dictus/Ekans Wraped it's long body around the snake pokemon, surprisingly it worked well and held the pokemon still. "Almost, now once more; Bite!" Dictus/Ekans sank it's fangs in once more and the real Ekans stopped struggleing and went limp. "Oh shi-." Brandon said quietly dashing over the the snake pokemon. He let out a sigh of relief as it drew a slow breath. He tapped it's head with his last pokeball. It's center glowed red for a moment but it eventually turned it's usual Grey. "Neat, I caught an Ekans." He looked over at Sylas "It's a major step to becoming a pokemon master that's for sure. It's a big achievement to be sure." He said nodding.

Magnus finished off a Bellsprout with Garnet's Ember, when he heard Sylas asking about the Badges.
"I'm more interested in what Falkner said about the Championships. He said that anyone with all eight badges from a region can bypass the preliminary qualifying rounds. That, to me, seems like a good deal. Definitely worth the extra bit of effort, than to risk losing in the prelims."
Magnus patted Garnet on the head lovingly, congratulating her on her win. As he scratched behind her neck, she began to glow white. Magnus knew this energy and glow very well... Garnet was finally evolving.
Her body grew in size and length, as did her legs. Her snout shortened, and attained a more pointed profile, and her ears perked up pointed as well. When the light faded away, Garnet stood proud as a beautiful Quilava, as beautiful as her mother was at her evolution.
"No matter how many times I see that, it never gets boring." Magnus said with a smile.

Houndour doged a Leech Life from the incoming Zubat and countered with a Bite. The battle had been raging for ten minutes now with neither side willing to give in. Finally the Zubat charged again with another Leech Life and Houndour caught it point blank with an Ember. The Zubat was blasted back and got up back into the air, though its flight was wobbly. Duncan threw a PokeBall which struck the Zubat, sucking it into the Ball where it shook three times and powered down. Duncan picked up the PokeBall putting it on his belt, "Looks like Nibbles here is the newest member of our team."
"Congratulations." Sylas said, both to Magnus and to Garnet. He looked down at Baron and rubbed the cubone's head. He could be evolving soon too.
"I think I might have to go through the preliminaries anyway." Sylas continued in response to Magnus. "I didn't fight in the first Gym we went to, and I wouldn't drag everyone back there on my account. But, that's if I even enter the Championships."

"Falkner gave us these badges." Magnus said to Sylas. "If he gave them to us, he thought we deserved them. You don't always have to battle and defeat a Gym Leader in order to get the badge. You just have to impress them enough that they feel you earned it."

"Good job, Duncan." Magnus congratulated his friend. "A Zubat adds a bit of balance towards your team. Once it learns some Flying-Type attacks, it'll be able to counter any Fighting-Type Pokemon that your Houndour is weak against. And since it's a Poison-Type, it's got added resistance to Bug-Types... Perfect for your rematch with Bugsy, huh?"

"Well I haven't had a chance to actually look at it yet. After the battle it was knocked out cold." He said grabbing the pokeball to his new pokemon. He let it out and it merely coiled on the ground and looked up at Brandon. After a second it slither toward him and up his leg till it was coiled around his arm with it's head on his shoulder. "Friendly for an Ekans ain't ya." He` said scratching under it's chin, it hissed with pleasure. Brandon chuckled as he slid his hand down the Ekans body until it had stretched out. He reached about 2/3d of the way down and pulled his hand away calmly. "Fang, seems like a good name for a male Ekans." He said with a smile.

Yeah, evolution operates the same as in the games. Next battle that Rascal is in, have him evolve either after, or during if necessary.
"I take it you figured out how to do that by remembering what I did when I caught Ryu?" Magnus asked when he saw Brandon correctly identify the sex of the Ekans. "It's pretty easy, you just have to know what to feel for, I guess."

"Salad, Vine Whip!" Salad extended her root-like vines, and knocked the club back to the ground. "Now, Growth."
Salad stuck her roots in the ground, and ingested some nutrients from the soil, increasing her size temporarily, and then pulled up her roots. Baron moved quickly and picked his club up from the ground. He rushed forward, and swung the Bone Club at Salad, who evaded the attack.

Salad was hit head-on when Baron used Headbutt. Reeling back, the Bellsprout regained her composure and returned to her stance. Her body was quivering, but she was still able to battle.
"Sleep Powder!" Bellsprout scattered a noxious dust through the air towards Baron. Baron nodded off, unable to resist it. "Now, Vine Whip!"

"Baron!" he shouted again. This time his eyes cracked open. He used a quick tail whip to interrupt Salad's attack, then crawled to his feet. Salad whipped him once more across his "face".
"Good job buddy, now Rage." Baron raised his club over his head and rushed toward Salad, growling what could best be called a battle cry.
