It is skillful, but the actual physical reflex and hand-eye skill needed to get kills in Halo is more demanding. I find COD a much easier game to play and get kills in anyway.
It might be just me, but hopping around like a frog on meth, spraying rockets until one of two combatants has to go get additional ammo, isn't my definition of 'skillfull'.

That being said, I find Cod4/6 (hardcore, mind) to be the most demanding game I have played so far (though admittedly I never tried out halo).
I'm sorry but your opinion was just rendered utterly invalid by your admission that you've never tried out Halo.

Your description of the combat in it was hyperbolic and incorrect. And you certainly can't 'spray' rockets.

I find COD hardcore to be even easier mode than normal. You kill so quickly, it's just heaven for campers. People who think they're more skilled because they play hardcore are very mistaken.

All of this is pretty much exactly true. CODrage burns with an unmatched intensity. Except for maybe DOTArage, that's dangerous too.

Granted, not having played one among a flood of different shooters certainly strips me of the right to form an opinion. Thing is, compared to she shooters I've played (Ut 2003-2007, 3 different quake games, cs 1.6/css, flashpoint, rainbow six, borderlands, several half lives and about 10 other franchises I can't remember right now), Cod hardcore is as good as balance is going to get. (I by no means consider myself superior because of that, it's just the most fun. to me )

You said earlier, that you take good aim, and good reflexes as a measurement of skill. Both get the more important, the easier you die. As does situational awareness, due to campers, and the ability to navigate safely through the map, without any maps or other help features other than your eyes. Which is, together with the removal of any tools aiding in aiming (crosshairs) what sums up the call of duty - hardcore experience.

And of course, the 'one bullet, one kill' policy solves two of the biggest problems in multiplayer fps, being the differences in health at the start of a fight, and the differences of guns.
If in say 'Ut 2007 (where you can spam rockets by the way) two people meet, one of them full shields and health, the other one down to 17 hp - whos gonna win? The better player or the guy with more health?
If the same two people meet with even health, but one has the enforcer pistol, and the other one has the minigun - again, whos gonna win?
Now in a Match of cod6 hc, the same players meet, one of them with three bullets left in his usp.45 and the screen flashing all red from falling, the other one with a fully loaded m4 and full health - who wins? The better player, that is, the one whos first to score a hit.

Now share your wisdom, which do you consider more balanced?

Live and let live and all, I'm just a little sick of all the hate that a game gets that, and many haters fail to notice that, is a lot of fun to a lot of people.

I agree with most of what you said there, but the balance issues to me seem to be especially bad in MW2.

For example dual shotties are just always going to win against anything close range due to the fact that they don't require precise aiming.

And the killstreak system means that a vast number of matches end up with one player completely dominating.

At least in Halo it's extremely difficult to hide in a corner and build up a streak, you might last 2 or 3 killls before you're discovered or over-run.

The funny thing is, as much as I'm defending Halo here, I actually prefer the COD series. Despite its many flaws I love the fast pace it has (especially in COD4) and I hope Black Ops gets the best of both MW games and builds on them.

I am quite good at COD but I suck at Halo. Maybe I'm mistaken but to me, COD is easier to get good at.

Halo allows for much more skillful play IMO. When two people go head on the better player is going to win 99% of the time.
My hatred toward halo lies on the "grasshoppers" meaning jumpers. it burns me to no end because I can have the stongest weapons and still "miss somehow" or get an energy sword and still get overpower by a jumper.

I hate the tactic because it seems so unrealistic so be seen in combat and by the way has anyone else notice the ever growing population of the floor "eaters" meaning people that drop to the floor as soon as you open fire in MW2? It BURNssssss... *yet again grabs a spaz and goes on a murder frenzy.

Who cares if it's unrealistic? It's a videogame, it's not meant to be realistic.

The jumping in Halo is part of the mechanics, getting annoyed because someone is jumping is like getting annoyed because you let a Goomba walk into you.

I enjoyed that, and agree with pretty much everything you said. I know it was the tac-nuke that made me not want to buy the game (I was playing on my brothers computer). We had a scenario that mirrored what you said. I thought it a fluke, but when I had it happen 3 times in just over 90mins of play I threw my hands up and never played it again...

Oh, the nuke.... the worst ever addition to a game with objective modes.

I'd love if the COD online experience had a mode with no killstreaks. That would probably be really fun and enjoyable, even on MW2.

too bad they couldn't do that...

oh wait, they could have not poured money into the IW.net infrastructure and kept dedicated servers like all of their other games, and not trashed their image with the PC community. I wonder if Treyarch is allowing dedicated servers, because IW.net did nothing to prevent MW2 being the most pirated game thus far.

You'll be glad to hear that Treyarch have confirmed Dedicated servers for COD Black Ops. Does that make you happy? It makes me happy!

There's also going to be a Beta, which is what MW2 desperately needed.

Well I really liked W@W and the multiplayer from CoD3, so yes I am looking forward to it...though L.A. Noire will be coming out around that time, and that game may consume my life

Yeah I thought Waw was under-rated. The campaign was so much fun for me.

LA Noire? What is that?

Another nice thing about Halo is people don't seem to mind if you aren't as good as they are. I've seen you post about MW a few times and it sounds like you get punished if you aren't the best of the best.

In Halo, you can be fairly average and still have a blast. The people there are friendlier than when I have played other FPS multiplayer games. I don't know why, but they are just a bit more laid back. Maybe it's because the game has pink guns.

I agree, I think part of it has to do with the bouncy, non-realistic play mechanics, the crazy physics that make your deaths hilarious, the bright colours and casual feel, and the awesome free for all mode that rewards being a kill stealing asshole :D

Black ops looks pretty cool though.
Looks can be deceiving. WaW looked pretty cool too, and it was just a gigantic let down for everybody who loved MW. I wont hold my breath for this one either.

I actually loved WAW! Not the multi, but the campaign was super fun.

I think it helped that I haven't played many WW2 shooters so wasn't as jaded as some gamers.

I am kinda of glad you get mad at something that I just wanted to point out but regardless...

HA! HAHA! THEY (bungie) Took your precious jump from you on Halo Reach. HA! *grabs a spaz and goes on a murder freenzy (yet again)

This is one of the reasons I have avoided the online multiplayer for Modern Warfare 2. I beat the story mode, had a friend over and shared a few Ks and Ds and left it at that. I would rather have a heart attack after my 4-thousandth quadruple-bacon-double-fried-chicken-with-cheese sandwich than having a heart attack over a 12 year old racist who helps keeping my average time between death below 5 seconds

GO PRIORITIES!
