Talk about shafting your already slimmer userbase and pointing them in the direction of a rival company. The fact Macs are already known for shittier compatibility just adds insult to injury, now Mac users are not just fucked by everyone else, but also by the very company they're buying their products from.

I'm sorry for anyone with a Mac, but I've gotta say, this is quite hilarious :)

Social opinion in my opinion is as much of a judge of a good idea as a half-cut monkey and I fully intend to fight this utterly crazy take on a perfectly functional acronym.
I don't think any of us would argue with that point.

But you're preaching to the choir here. Social opinion is why Fox News exists, Australia can't have 18+ games and Britain has it's Tabloids.

We could fight it, but we're vastly outnumbered and outgunned; and IDKFA doesn't work.
"We could fight it, but we're vastly outnumbered and outgunned" at this point I should qualify that I identify myself as Scottish and from the Clan Mackintosh, picking fights with much bigger opponents is basically hard-wired into me :p

Besides games have taught us the outnumbered protagonist almost always wins against the massive empire right?

I feel kinda like an xbox user when the PSN hack happened.

Tbh I'm surprized that apple users had not figured out the the pattern back when the iPhone 3GS came out.

Apple update the hardware waaaay to much.

Good god people PC stands for "Personal Computer" A Mac is a PC, why do so many people insist on getting this wrong and thinking there are only two choices?
Remember the Apple ads? "Mac vs. PC" - even Apple themselves don't call their computers PCs!
Just sayin'...

OT: I think this thread has had enough Mac-bashing for now. I'll keep my mouth shut about their innovations.

People don't get this wrong. Have you forgotten about all the Apple marketing? The whole "Mac vs. PC" thing? Apple doesn't brand their computers as PCs even though they technically are, so it makes sense that people wouldn't consider Macs to be PCs.

OT: Don't really know much about Apple products. Windows has treated me well enough over the year so I never once considered switching. This sounds pretty bad but not being educated about Apple products I'm not sure how much of it is really true.
Marketing does not accuracy make, PC standing for personal computer just makes more sense, a machine running Windows 7 is a PC a machine running Snow Leopard is a PC a machine running Natty Narwhal is a PC

If windows machines are PCs and apple machines are macs then what are we to call machines that run anything else?

Using PC as short hand for windows will only serve to make people more narrow-minded, hell its taken us how long to make people realise windows is not the only option?

This is my opinion and I will defend it strongly, having more options are almost always a better thing.
I agree with you, but its much quicker to write PC than a PC running Windows XP, or a Windows Machine, and pretty much everyone knows what your talking about when you say you have a PC as opposed to a Mac.
I know its quicker and easier but that doesn't change the long term ramifications of it as the root here has said:
I'ld actually disagree with you over the long term ramifications. Honestly anyone who has taken a computer course knows (or at least shoudl know) what exactly a PC is and what and OS is at the very least. Seeing as computers aren't going anywhere and how us kids who grew up with this stuff are becoming working adults you'll see these terms being reinforced in introductory courses. Yes you might see a slight increase in ignorance now, but it will sort itself out in the long run.
I hope you are right but my own experience points in a different direction, to quote myself from earlier in this thread...

Open source is the way forward! Viva la Revolution! Free as in speech not free as in beer.

http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/can-you-trust.html

Etc..

Until you realize just exactly who the GNU crowd really is, and they end up voting you out of your own open source project.

Still though, having an OS you absolutely know what it does and how to upgrade it isnt a bad thing.

But the majority of computer users are too lazy to even pick up a "HTML for dummies" book.

Don't I know it, I'm currently at uni (doing computer science) but I come from a small community and my father was a local publican so my family was quite well known in the area. Well known family + knack for fixing things in general + studying comp sci = tech support for about a 3rd of the town.

I'm not sure what exactly it is that irritates me more, the older people who just can't quite get it because its such an alien concept to them so they wont try anything or younger people who are quite tech happy but just as ignorant as the older people and will happily click on or download anything.

As for the GNU crowd I'm not a massive supporter I just liked that article in particular.

I might be a bit off topic here but that's what happens sometimes.

What.

What the hell. This is the kind of thing that causes people to turn to arson. Not a smart move, Apple. Attempted corporate suicide, even.

My mobile-phone plays my music just fine, with a free third party player I installed.

My laptop plays my games just fine, with a plethora of tools I can use for CGI.

My question is why do you need Apple products for ANYTHING? If it's for a name and identity, you have no quarrel from me, it's your money, your opinion, your choice, but NEVER anyone dare claim Apple stuff is better then anything else.

Just because you're blind and cannot see what else is out-there, doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Apple never ceases to amuse me. Makes me wonder just how gullible the people buying their products are. "Hmm, I could get this perfectly decent piece of equipment for a reasonable price, or I could pay four times as much for an equal or inferior version that will need to be replaced in its entirety in a year or two, the entire justification being that I can tell myself I'm hip and a part of a group of hip people if I pick the second option. Fuck yeah apple!"
Rock on, apple fans.

See this is why I detest apple. And no the fact that I own an ipod touch and a shuffle (well done apple on testing your headphones for that btw) does not make me a hypocrite.

While there are a hell of a lot of things about apple products I damn right detest the major culprit of this being the iphone software design choices. But as far as mp3 players go I will not say a bad word about them. I love my shuffle. Although my Nokia N8 is technically superior for playing videos due to the massive array of codecs it supports. I still prefer to have a dedicated mp3 player for some reason

But yeah fucking over its own customers yet again. Cunts.
True, can't live with em, can't live without em. Or rather can't have good customer care and the best music player on the Market at the same time, it seems.

Oh, and due to my sister hogging the laptop, the only reason I'm even posting here right now is that I have an iPod touch.

Some more ammo I can use when the next macfanboy feels the need to inform me that I'm an artist using the wrong platform. Wheeeen it's not even the topic, sometimes when I'm just minding my own business.

Lol

As if we needed more reason to hate Apple >.>
I use Windows and DO want to try Linux but I'm afraid program compatibility is the most important thing to me at this moment in time... everything ELSE about limux seems to be superior as far as I can tell...

I feel sorry for those who got screwed over though... not fun :(

Eh. I never saw all the appeal of apple, and When they tried to monopolize with iTunes, I just completely didnt care. To point where I just didnt want to get an iPod because I didnt want to have to deal with iTunes.

besides, the users I know personally are all pretentious to the point where I mostly just spend my free time making viruses for Apple computers anyway, just to screw with them because always tells me their Apple laptop is untouchable. Especially my neighbor.

(A Mac thread? Here come the, "Hey guys, I feel insecure about my opinions, so I'm going to post the exact thing everyone else in the thread has said for the 30th time")

The funny thing is, that with my track record for electronics spontaneously dying, even with this move, my using Apple stuff is still more cost effective...

Still, this is one of those bad things that makes me dislike big business at times. Of course, I can get the most recent OS on my Mac for 90 dollars cheaper than doing so on a PC. Why don't people complain about Windows OS prices? I would have a windows partition if it wasn't so expensive.

because for the most part Win OS software still works 5 months, a year, five years down the line, while Apple....

well, proof in the thread.

Sure, you might think its cost effective to throw away your macbook after its life, but even now there is still a strong following for Windows XP and Vista [though the majority does not like Vista in the same way].

I actually plan on keeping my current laptop [Toshiba Satellite with Windows 7] for a good five or so years, or until it finally breaks due to excessive usage.

And when I am finally willing to upgrade to the next Windows OS, Ill just need to get an install disk, instead of having to buy an entirely new computer.

at the most, I might need to buy some more RAM or a bigger HDD, neither are a bad investment.
My last four PCs didn't last more than four months without a major hardware failure. (three hard drive issues, two motherboards fried and taking other components with it, audio completely cut out on my laptop) After whatever happened if it was reasonable to repair it, the whole affair was rocky and unreliable.

Not to mention the... was it nine? MP3 players before my iPod. Its not for everyone, but the fact that my Macbook has survived two years with only two major software problems requiring a reformat is an absolute miracle. Macs aren't for everyone, no, but its been for me a godsend.

And the thing about XP 'n such being used for years on end... Well, that's struck me as a failure on Microsoft's part. Shouldn't the next OS be a guaranteed improvement over its predecessor? Going from XP to Vista was a very unpleasant experience for me.
I'm still an OS behind on my Macbook, but my mother has Snow Leopard, and I've only seen improvements in it.

an Ipod works with Winamp and a couple of other players with no issue. Itunes is redundant. Hell WMP sounds better overall than Itunes, as painful as it is to admit WMP does anything well.
