"No" and "It Doesn't Matter to Me", as options, seems a bit close in this case, but whatever.

I say no. The important question is "do they make good music?" I don't care if you are literally Jabba the Hut. If you can sing/drum/play guitar well, I stand a chance of buying an album.

Have you heard of Lemmy? No, they certainly do not need to be beautiful!
And yet he's somehow been with more women than you could shake a Used Condom at! like his voice though...

Most people in bands aren't exactly eye candy, but being an artist should be about talent, not looks.

REAL musicians don't need to be attractive. It's the no-talent wannabes that populate the teen-rock/pop/rnb etc. circuit that have to have the looks to make up for their appalling lack of talent.

IT'S A CRACK WHORE! AAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!

But that didn't stop her from making a couple addictive as hell "songs" and have THREE of them sitting in the Top 40 at the same time.

I mainly listen to metal and pretty much every metal musician is a hulking great viking. With a few exceptions... foooor example, Cristina Scabbia, of Lacuna Coil.

I have been thinking about this for a while. Most artists and singers who have record deals are beautiful, gorgeous, cute... whatever you want to call it.

So is it possible if you look like nothing special?

Is it possible to create a career when you don't look like Taylor Swift or one of Girls Aloud and will it make it harder for you to do that?

Or is it nothing to do with looks in the Music business and more to do with the fact that you can sing or not?
Nowadays? Yeah. Ever since video, physical attractiveness has been a big part of being successful in the music industry.. It hasn't always been that way.. in the days of Radio there were LOTS of physically hideous acts that were ridiculously popular. Video really did kill the Radio Star, and it's for that very reason.. now people had to enjoy watching you as much as they enjoyed listening to you, and a lot of people didn't make that cut.

I think Amy Whinehouse is proof you don't have to be. Not saying I like her music but she seemed to do ok for an ugly disgusting crackwhore.
I don't know a single person who likes her. I don't understand why anybody would. And I promise it has nothing to do with her looks.
Kinda has to do with her being a pretty fucking talented singer, no skinny British white chicks have any business being that good.

OT: Kurt Cobain showed us that you don't have to be good looking to be popular...

If she's talented she needs to fire whoever's teaching her. I don't claim to be a music guru but I know what sounds good. Moaning about going back to rehab doesn't.

Well there's certainly no accounting for taste. I will say this, as a musician myself I tend to hold singers to very, very high standards, and she's just freakin' talented. She can sing, and sing very well. Maybe it's just not your kinda music?

And honestly, I thinks she's got a sum total of one song 'whining about going back to rehab'.
