I only added three people, and that was Geek@Heart (she's funny), Valate (seemingly fellow Unificationist), and Demented Teddy (similar interests).
All the others added me first. I don't send out friend requests, I spend too much time thinking about things, but I haven't turned down a single friend request sent to me, I just can't help it.
I get messages from some of the people, but there isn't normally much contact unless we bump into each other on a forum.

I add people if I like reading their posts or feel I can relate to them. Its just easier to follow people if they're in your 'friends' list.

Really its just a list of users you want to follow, it doesnt necessary need to be people you'd consider friends. I mean I doubt people have enough true friends on the forums to require a full blown list to handle them all. I mean real friends like people you hang out with or spend time with you know... outside of how you met them (outside the escapist).

Like I don't consider people I only spend time with in school to be much of a friend if we don't do anything outside of school together ever.

When I get a friend request, I do my happy dance. To the tune of "Take On Me".
If I add you, would you record that and send it to me?

I befriend anyone who's interested. I take it as a sign that I've either made a humourous post, someone thought I was nice or something. I rarely request friends myself, though I once added a guy because of his avatar. I felt a bit cheap afterwards...

I'm actually up for more active friends, I'm a nice guy who want to widen my e-community!

[sub]Damn, now I feel cheap again...[/sub]

While a good policy, this still begs the question of why certain users are on your friends list. Not mentioning any names here, some of them are just curious.

On an unrelated note, how did we become friends in the first place?
Not sure who you're talking about, but I've probably had decent interactions with them in the past, added them as a friend spur of the moment, and promptly forgot about them. I think I only talk regularly with maybe six or seven people on my list.

As for us...according to my inbox, it was early June. Can't remember the circumstances, though.

I am starting to get more stranger friend requests, and I do not care.

I'm not even at 4000 yet and I'm receiving a few stranger friend requests too, high-five!

I only except friends if we'd spoken a bit beforehand. No point in adding complete strangers. However, I don't really talk to anyone in my friends list, apart from the two I know IRL.

I usually only send/accept friends requests from the people I RP with, just so I can keep track of them.

When people quote me and have the same feelings and stuff I befriend them.
But when they just search and find people for freinds NO!

I think I've only talked to one person thats added me and that only lasted for a bit with a couple of lines of text each hardly great conversation btu I suppose talking on friends list isn't really what this forum is about I suppose.

I haven't gotten any friend requests here (yet), but in the event of such occurrence, I would have one or two personal chats with that fellow escapist to know whether it's safe to add him/her or not.

*sigh* im feeling unloved. I only have ten friends and 2 of them are from my class (and one of them is my fiance) so they do not count. The other 8 are from those who share similar oppinions to me and so i have chosen to add them and they have added me... I want more friends... then agian im never on in a hurry anymore and do not usually chat much, but i like to see a large friend list.

(I do not bite. My name might sound scary but im really a shy kinda teen who just wants to be happy, read my biography for more details not that there is much)

I only add people that I've talked to in a thread or RP beforehand. If someone really random adds me, I usually just ignore it.
Yeah, harshness I know. :0

But I hate the whole "I have 23978945 friends, aren't I populaaar." Culture thing that a few people seem to be going through.

Whyyy? xD
