I don't play because it's a bit hard to get into. also navagating 3d space was just too much for me to wrap my head around(seriously I can't get past the idea that there is no up or down (you can be what feels like upsidedown and yet be flipped 180 degrees from the next guy. Everything looks the same) I don't have the time. I could continue but I don't care enough to

Same pretty much, and what are these horror stories of which the OP speaks?
EVE is notorious for the levels of griefing encountered within it, including conduct that would in the real world be considered fraud or harassment. One corporation (it'd be a guild in WoW) was literally destroyed from within by a spectacularly meticulous fraud; I think the Escapist wrote an article about that very event.

That's not what prevented me from trying it, but it's a small part of what prevents me from bothering to take a second look after rejecting it the first time.

Well, I really can't argue that because I've only played the trial, but I stand by what I say.
So you stand by "It's really not as deep as people say"? Or what? I have no problem with your bottom line, "it's not fun," since fun is in the eye of the beholder. But your previous post was that it's not deep because all the quests are the same. :/
I can't make any argument against what you said about other aspects of the game because I've only played the trial, sorry if that wasn't clear. I stand by saying that the quests aren't deep however(probably should of made that more clear).

And yeah, I totally agree that fun isn't the same for everyone. Hell, Michael Jackson thinks that touching little boys in the no-no zone is fun, doesn't mean everyone else does.

Or at least, I hope not.

I played the trial, and loved it, but I really don't want to have to play for literally years before I get to the lategame stuff. The only way to really advance quickly is to mine, mine, mine. I'd rather not pay to watch my ship mine stuff for two years.

So, too slow. I really loved the absurd detail put into the economy though.

Space games interest me. MMOs interest me. Space MMOs interest me. But I don't have time for MMOs right now, and I don't like the idea of playing a game that I can never "beat".

Too slow, especially after reaching past the Battleship class ships. I also didn't like getting shafted so often into just a mining guy. It was so ridiculously boring the first few times I did it, I didn't appreciate being shoved into the lower-duty sections of 90% of the corporations I joined, let alone the damned Goonfleet deciding to suicide-gank in Empire Space.

1) saw the adverts, clicked on the site and it bored me
2) costs money per month, so already not my bag of crack
3) Yahtzee says no

Actually, Level 4 missions, if you include salvage and loot, is better money than mining. But when you're doing those on a treadmill for dough, it's not significantly different from mining. It's just that the "rocks" shoot back. :)

Two closely linked reasons: i) Its a MMORPG and ii) I have a job and girlfriend and maybe four spare hours a week I can use for gaming.
I don't have a full-time job right now, women find me perpetually disgusting and childish, and I have like 100-some spare hours a week I can use for nothing BUT gaming (and eating flavored pretzels), and I STILL won't touch EVE.

You can call it a MMORPG till your pants fall off: it's nothing but an online hardcore space sim, and the only thing worse than reading stacks of tech readouts and mining for days at a time is doing it on the same server as a thousand other odd little people.

EVE turns into an online version of Homeworld, and I'll jump right in.

Oh wait. The last Homeworld had that, didn't it? So nevermind.

Now a Homeworld MMO - that would be so much awesomeness it would literally cause deaths. Beautifully lit deaths, accompanied by an amazing ambient score.

Heard the horror stories, which made me less likely to try it. Some of my friends tried it, and backed up those assumptions. Yatzee backed up their discoveries.

Also, my fun-time is limited. I've decided to keep on with City of Heroes/City of Villains, which is very friendly to casual play and alt-itis. The fun starts at level 1. Heck, even designing your costume before you get out the gate can be very enjoyable.

And gives me a good ration of "Pow!" "Bif!" "Zap!" gameplay. As in, exciting combat involving things that could be human.

Actually these horror stories are warming me to it, a corrupt-em-up, awesome

but seriously even the idea of a mmorpg space sim bores my arse off

I would love to try it but I don't have time to put into MMO games anymore. I'm also away from internet access (on a personal computer, I use a work PC all the time). So there would be no point in paying monthly for something I can't enjoy.

Don't have the time to keep up on the MMO report, especially since the board is still dominated by WoW.

Too harsh, and I"m not talking about the gameplay, I'm talking about the monthly fee.

1)Fallout 3
2)Fable II
3)Left 4 Dead next week.
4)Gears of War 2

I won't even have enough money for a Happy Meal, let alone a new MMO.

I mean seriously atleast wow you get to push a button every few seconds and make it feel like your doing something. Eve online you just set range, and you shoot at eachother and then you win or lose.
You describe extremely simple-minded 1v1 combat. The 1v1 frigate tourneys I've been in involved more than target/turn on weapon. Also, it's much, much more complex than that even in a small 3v3 -- And the big fleet battles involve hundreds. Even when I'm mining I have to do more keypresses than you describe. So Eve's combat doesn't interest you; I can understand that. But at least come at it with a criticism that makes sense.
You cant complain that my criticism doesnt make sense because i didnt spend millions of years playing the game, i had a 14 day trial and in that time i did some mining, which involved what i described and i did some solo fighting random npc ships which was as i described again. Maybe i clicked slightly more than once to select a second ship if one exsisted but certainly in my experience of early game combat it didnt feel like i was really needed to input anything more than an attack command to win. And i'm probably quoting ZP here but if i have to wait until i'm in a massive fleet battle or fighting in tournements to actually enjoy combat then in my opinion that makes it a boring combat system. Which given my 14 days trial is a perfectly valid opinion, if in 14 days i've not had any 'fun' then that makes eve a game that doesnt deserve a penny of my money

Option 9 - It's so incredibly boring. I'd rather watch paint dry. Then sand it down. And paint over it again. Watch that dry. Then give it a second coat, watch that dry...

Then i'd probably do that again.

It's about the same level of achievement, except with Eve you could log off and have it play itself for you.
Pretty much my thoughts exactly. I tried it, but hell.. It was so boring, it's unbelievable. I like playing games, not clicking something every once in a few days and paying for it. =/
