Manly tears are ok. When my cat died I held her lovingly one last time, let a single tear drop onto her fur in a conspicuous yet looking like im trying to hide it way. Let everyone know I was deep.....man

its fine for adults to cry its a great emotional release and good to get it off your chest instead of letting it fester and turn into anger and rage

It depends on the situation. I think if I saw someone cry for a true, real reason, not blubber or fall apart, but just sincerely cry...Yeah, that wouldn't bother me, I would probably try to help them.

But blubbering, or crying over nothing? I'm afraid that makes me want to punch people.
I just don't get how people can let themselves fall completely apart over some things... Buck up and take life as it comes, no matter how shitty it is. Sobbing in the corner changes exactly nothing, and wastes everyone's time.
But I'm a bitter angry teenager, and I still think it's ok if it's honest, heart felt, and not done unless there's just no other option.

'less it's happy tears, those are always good.

Of course you can cry when you want to. I just don't cry because I am too masculine for that but I don't judge other people or call them not men because they cry. I am just not the type of person to weep.

I have to admit (I can't help this but) men crying is a real turn off. I'm not choosing to be insensitive there is just something in the caveman part of my brain that's like "pussy >_>". Unless it's matter of life or death of course.

When women do it I just find it annoying but trivial. We are on a random emotional acid trip of hormones once a month so it makes sense when it slips out on occasion. In general I think it's something that should be kept private or you just make others feel bad.

If you cry for any reason other than getting hurt really effing bad, you admit that something got to you on an emotional level. That is what makes you weak. That something that somebody said or did can get to you like that.

Kids get killed in freak accident - Emotionless.

Close relative dies - Cry on and off for days

Pet dies - Cry constantly for weeks on end.

Distant relative dies - deep breath and move on.

Kids movies (Bambi, Dumbo, Fluke) - Sob like a baby when the sad bits happen.

I'm a mixed up guy :(

Yeah, I cry on occasion. When I saw Up, I leaked a few manly tears. I don't really care.

If you don't cry when Mufasa dies, you have no soul. NO SOUL.

I don't cry, I bottle it up and punch a wall when I'm frustrated. Hurt my hand. Done.

I'm a big softie in sad movies. But I hardly ever cry when it comes to real events.

I suppose it depends on various factors behind the tears, but I suppose that it's fine to cry every once in a while.

I hate crying though, gives me a headache after a while.

I haven't cried at all in damn near a decade. I don't see anything wrong with crying in and of itself. It's a healthy way to release emotions. There are just far too many people who lose complete control over themselves and turn into a blubbering mass of tears at every opportunity.

Then again, I tend to think of myself as the 'pillar of strength' around my friends. I never show any emotions than the mask of the happy go-lucky funny guy that I want everyone to see. It's weird and might be a big pig-headed, but that's just who I am.

tl;dr Yes, crying is fine but only over something that -really- matters. Injury, friend/family member dying/getting hurt, etc.

I've noticed most opinion seems to hold that crying equates to weakness and only young children can get away with it.

So my question is really "Is it ever okay for an adult to cry?"

Obviously it's fine if someone has just died, or your sports team just lost the Grand Final... But apart from that, when is it ok?

On the other hand, if you subscribe to the "harden the **** up" school, then please explain why for that as well :)
Yeah, it's fine to cry when you are overwhelmed with saddness. It really doesn't mean anything but you are showing your emotions.

But if you cry about a sports team losing... that's just pathetic.

Only if you have a good reason. In private, go nuts. But if you're in public, and you're crying because your friend called shotgun, that's not OK. You need to grow the fuck up.

And if anyone says that it isn't.Then they are just trying to be hyper masculine assholes.
I disagree. I don't think there's a problem with crying, but there's a time and a place. Crying for no good reason is fucking pathetic.

Well stupid but depends :p. At first I wanted to select "Yes" since I'm not afraid of crying at a good movie or when life kicks me in the balls. I don't really cry in any other occasions (I take funeral of a close family member as a kick to the balls) and rest of the stuff can MERELY get me a little teary eyed but not yet crying.

Now the "depends" part comes here. For me if you cry you need to have a reason. And crying while screaming "leave Britney alone!" is not really a good reason.
Also I think crying at EVERY god damned occasion is not good. Both for your health (possible conjunctivitis) and for the emotional impact of the crying itself. When you cry you are either suffering greatly or you feel sorrow for somebody else. When you cry over a broken nail or scratched paint on your car you are not really crying. You are just whining like a little ***** you are.

And that's why I chose "depends".

There's sissy tears, normal acceptable tears, and Manly Tears.

Sissy tears are unacceptable. They are when people cry from a small things, like being punched in the gut, taking a small scratch, or being insulted.

Normal acceptable tears are, obviously, acceptable. They're from severely painful conditions(hemorrhaging, broken bones, etc.) or very emotional situations(parents just died, etc.)

Manly Tears are tears shed in Manly situations, like crying over the death of a true bro who takes the bullet for you, saving your life. If you don't cry in these situations you have no soul.
What about the crying that you get when just one thing goes wrong because you can't take any more disappointment after 18 months of stress and depression and all you have to look forward to is the kick you get out of mentally tearing yourself apart with grief and regret. I think that one needs a cool name too! :D
