Crying is something that is always ok. My dad told me it's a sign of weakness. So I bottled it all in, all the time. This led to debilitating depression.

But now, I just let it out. I avoid it in public because I don't want to make a scene, but a quiet corner or the restroom are fine if you're in public.

Never let anyone let you believe crying is wrong.

I'm not sure it's fair to call someone who cries "weak". I (unfortunately) cry pretty easily. I'm a guy, so I hold most of it (due to the social norm of guys not crying)and also, I don't feel like the reasons I cry are good. But it's almost like a reflex, which I can't change, so I'm stuck with this extra reflex. And as I said, my reasons can be stupid, like when my wallet got stolen from the locker room during practice. I left my stuff out, I should have made precautions, so I paid the consequences. In the end, I couldn't but help cry quietly . I generally don't cry about physical pain, but more emotional pain. So I think "crying is a sign of weakness" is a fair generalization.

Damn. I accidentaly voted No. I though the statement was "If you cry, you're weak". But, since it's "is it ever ok to cry?", then my answer is Yes.
The explanation... well, we're only human, it's a natural part of our emotions. Nothing bad about that.

Never. "There's no room for softness... not in Sparta. No place for weakness. Only the hard and strong may call themselves Spartans. Only the hard, only the strong."
You wouldn't last in Sparta for over an hour. Honestly, that society is degrading to the human race, it's a terrible example.

I don't cry, I bottle it up and punch a wall when I'm frustrated. Hurt my hand. Done.
That's a variation on SI, aka Self Injury. Which would be in the camp of "cutters". Been there, tried that, great short term fix, long term, you really need to sort out your issues in a better way. Coz that's in no way healthy *concerned face*

I think it is okay for an adult to cry. I don't think it it advisable to do so in public short of something really bad happening to you.
To be honest I cry myself to sleep fairly often. I know I'm not weak though. From observing what some people go to pieces over they would dive under a bus if they had to live my life for any extended amount of time.

It is a natural human reaction, as far as I know it has absolutely nothing to do with how weak you are. It it an emotion trying to hide it will do more harm then good.

It is not that I think it is wrong or weak to cry.

I just think some people over do it. I have barfed more times than I have cried as an adult (and I have only barfed 3 times since I turned 12).

It just takes a lot to get to me.

When I put my dog down was one...well, that is nearly all.

Crying and laughing is a INVOLUNTARY action. So yeah, cry... but man usually turn it to rage in a instant. Check around you. A guy get dump by is girlfriend, he would say something like; "I'm gonna kill her new boyfriend!". I guess that how the whole thing started. Women on the other end can cry and in the same situation would; Eat a full liter of ice cream, Cry for a half hour, throw stuff at wall and find a scapegoat to all her problems.

I actually witnessed it, so don't call me a misogynist just yet.

I'm usually someone to let my sadness shine through in a way other than crying. I usually have the most terrible look on my face, and people generally know either the exactly right thing to say, or to leave me alone.

The one time I really had a nice long cry, was after breaking up with my first girlfriend. We had been together for quite a long time. I loved her. It ended.

After that happened... Well, I cry a lot easier. I call myself an emotional trainwreck, which isn't that far from the truth.

But, after the initial shock of the break up, me and a friend had a slaughter session on GTA4.

It really helped relieve the stress.

There's sissy tears, normal acceptable tears, and Manly Tears.

Sissy tears are unacceptable. They are when people cry from a small things, like being punched in the gut, taking a small scratch, or being insulted.

Normal acceptable tears are, obviously, acceptable. They're from severely painful conditions(hemorrhaging, broken bones, etc.) or very emotional situations(parents just died, etc.)

Manly Tears are tears shed in Manly situations, like crying over the death of a true bro who takes the bullet for you, saving your life. If you don't cry in these situations you have no soul.
What about the crying that you get when just one thing goes wrong because you can't take any more disappointment after 18 months of stress and depression and all you have to look forward to is the kick you get out of mentally tearing yourself apart with grief and regret. I think that one needs a cool name too! :D
Only sissies cry over depression, Men either get over it or reason it to death with nihilism.

i don't know why crying means your weak........it means your an actual THING rather than an emotionless, pile of slime (republicans)
What you described would be more like a political neutralist. Republicans are republicans because of their particular emotional ties relative to their politics, the same is said for Democrats. Someone on the middle would likely want to stay away from those political affiliations.

What about women? Are we subjected to that same reasoning?

If you don't cry, then you're not a human being.

At least, that's my opinion.
