I'll go with either, but to be honest, most of the stuff I consume is manga. They're more portable, easier to locate, and easier to test out (reading a few chapters instead of watching a few episodes), typically have better pacing and artwork, and don't suffer the cost or production disadvantages of a video production. On the other hand, whenever I read manga adapted from anime, they always feel too fast-paced...

Most often, if I find something that exists in both media, I'll prefer the manga. The few exceptions so far are Slayers, Yu Yu Hakusho, and Steel Angel Kurumi, not to mention a few anime that were later adapted into manga format (Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo, mainly).

If a series is completed as both a Manga and an Anime, I'll watch the anime and just skip over the filler episodes. However if it is not completed I'll read the Manga as [del]most[/del] all Animes are based off of Manga and not the other way around.
Corrected that one :p
I take it you've never heard of Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, Yugioh GX, Evangelion, Space Battleship Yamato, Code Geass, Gurren Lagann, Digimon, Rahxephon, Tenchi Muyo, Mai-Hime, or Gundam?

Manga, no bad voice acting or implausible hair colors to get in the way of the story.

That.

I only recently read my first manga (Ode to Kirihito by Osamu Tezuka), but it was very good so I can safely put down "both" as my vote. I would hardly see it as a choice really, just different mediums of storytelling (and more than that in some all too rare cases) that I have no particular preference towards.

I've been watching anime since i was 7 years old, started off with 'Ghost in the shell' an amazing anime which to be honest i didn't understand at that time.
Before anything else--how the heck did you get to watch Ghost in the Shell, clearly a T-rated show, when you're 7?

I generally like both forms of entertainment. The problem arises when there are big deviations in the two if they're made from one another. I don't have much problem with filler episodes like those in Naruto, but when they decide to change the storyline completely like for Hoshin Engi.
Fortunately, the ending for FMA was very well written, and I would gladly tolerate things like that.

More anime and manga should considering approaching the series with new contribution, like say Haruhi, or .//hack series. In these series, the anime and manga are used differently, filling in aspects that cannot be shown otherwise. I especially love how Haruhi episodes are flipped around in the anime. I didn't get it at first, but after seeing the ending of the show, it makes perfect sense.

I prefer western stuff. I hate the original voices in those things, so squeaky and loud, always yelling. Also they all seem the same if you start looking at the overall story of them. Plus I have a problem with stories where the heroes are children, and they often seem extremely young aswell in them there mangas and animes. Guess that's my two cents. I don't mind them though, except that my housemate always has to watch his damn animes with the volume turned up like crazy loud, even though he doesn't understand a word they're saying anyway.

Ah, I see. That sits a bit better with me, haha. But wow.. on a video! I haven't heard about that thing in a while now.

I suppose that could be a bit of turnoff. Cultural differences, I guess. It also depends on the series you're watching. There are a lot more mature ones that aren't loud and obnoxious, but they're normally more of a niche anime, and you'd have to dig pretty hard to find one. They're usually really well made and written though.

I have an irrational hate of both. Maybe it's just because I knew a lot of creepy people who were obsessed with Anime and Manga. It's just one geeky step I won't take.

That being said, I do like western comic books.

I don't know, maybe I just hate the japanese...

If you've never run into creepy people who like western comic books, you are either extremely lucky or mildly xenophobic.

Hmm...You got a point. I just find them slightly less disturbing. At least they don't talk shout in japanese at me.

Depends... I usually despise animes. People who yell "english voice actors sucks" never heard a french voice actor. Japanese voice are all the same. The script gets changed (dialogue wise) in other languages translations.

However, somes animes ,despite their voice acting, are not so bad. Hellsing was not as good as the manga, but gave an interesting immersion. Trigun's bad english voice acting made the show funny. Again, Cowboy Bebop and Fullmetal Alchemist are the only ones i'm willing to give a true thumbs up. Death Note english script was the funny/weird guy in the gang.

Other than that, I prefer a good Manga. Sure, the good ones are all taken away because of copyrights fears. Therefore, you need a good google search to read a Darkhorse manga.

Other mentions on mangas...

-There's also a few of them with poor translations.
-If you read a manga online, you'll probably either have good scans or really bad ones.
-Some stories are different from the anime. (Fullmetal alchemist, Trigun, Hellsing, etc). (Although, FMA does have that Brotherhood version of the anime).

After reading some of Neil Gaiman's stuff, I can't call anything Japanese below the level of Berserk "disturbing." On second thought, add Alan Moore and Warren Ellis to that list.

Still, I'm once more grateful that I rarely pay attention to fans of the stuff I read. I expect I'd be creeped out by a lot of them, too.

I support which ever one of the 2 features DBZ and I don't like the one with the scantily clad japanese girls.

I know exactly what you mean.

Now, I'm not a HUGE anime fan. however I love the original Mangas of Dragonball and Dragonball Z but I can't stand to watch it. The mangas are humorous, not afraid to get a little immature, more bloody, and paced amazingly well.

The anime... they messed up. When they started animating Dragonball it was based on the original comic. The problem was that the cartoon series caught up to the mangas and they had to come up with ways to stretch out the show so Akira Toriyama's story could catch up.

So now you have entire episodes of "powering up", repeated animation and grunting.

Someone should take out all the "junk" and edit the story as it was told in the comic. THAT I would watch. :)

Manga tends to be better but anime has more potential
Just like dubs have more potential to appeal to me
and like videogames have more potential to tell a story then a movie or tv show.

So, anime could be better then manga but it rarely is.
