Sounds like the Bill won't be able to pass if it over turns Roe V Wade a supreme court decision.
States have overideing rights to federal decisions in alot of cases.
Unless a law is just flat out declared unconstitutional(even then states still have a go at it sometimes ie Prop 8 in CA)

Okay, this is ridiculous. Of course, this is MSNBC we're talking about here, so you can't really trust anything they say.

To me, it looks like one crazy person proposing something incomprehensibly stupid, and these commentators using it to demonize the entire pro-life movement. They didn't just say "this guy is an idiot", they started Republican-bashing, acting like this is normal conservative behavior, and it's a "war on reproductive rights".
This is Fox News level of bull crap.
Of course it is. MSNBC is the liberal Fox. You just never really hear about what jackasses they are because the have nowhere near the level of influence and viewers that Fox has.

They were the news outlet that demonized McCain and heralded Obama as the fricking Messiah at the same time as Fox was saying that Obama wasn't an American citizen.

Isn't it illegal to miscarriage in Utah as well? And by that I mean miscarriage because of drug abuse or physical abuse - apparently staying with an abusive partner is a criminal act in this case. Or neglecting to wear a seatbelt and miscarrying. Or falling down the stairs... Well, that was the original proposal anyway. It got changed into something a little more sane if I remember correctly.

All because a pregnant girl asked her boyfriend to beat her up. In a state where abortions are legal. Sigh...

OT: IMO, miscarrying is not a crime. Doing drugs - whether narcotics or alcohol - while pregnant is bloody stupid mind you, but being stupid isn't a crime either.

Punishing mothers for a tragedy beyond their means to control is despicable.

Wait, the guy who proposed this wants to "take America back to its Christian roots"? Excuse me if I'm wrong, but isn't freedom of religion a basic part of the Constitution? I guess it's true then, they'll let anyone into a political party and propose bills nowadays.

Fine then, I, a non-American citizen, join an unnamed party, and propose that all people should jump around for 20 minutes everyday for no adequately explained reason just because I wrote it down on an online forum. Failure to follow this directive will result in real life teabagging by Teabaggers.

^That makes about as much sense and has the same chances of passing as the bill in this thread.

Evidently this guy has no idea that the majority of fetuses miscarry naturally before most women can even detect that they're pregnant.

What a dumbass, in other words.

Wow. People sit there astounded someone could be so stupid as to propose what the OP assumes the law proposes, but can't stop for a minute to actually think this might just be a sensationalist interpretation intended to bring interest to an otherwise uninteresting piece?

What? No. Miscarriages are accidents, even if the mother was using illegal substances. And in that case, aren't there already sufficient laws to punish them for the illegal drug use? And if not, the death penalty?! Really? Pushing it a bit too far there.

Seriously? The mother can't really prevent this!

My 1 day old child died, and now I have to too. Does that not sound retarded?

I can tell the mods are going to have a field day moderating this thread.

It's good to hear the one news broadcast about this is overwhelmingly and explicitly opposed to it and it seems to be just a lone politician.

I have no idea why anyone would come up with a law like this, perhaps a foolish and convoluted attempt at going around the Roe vs Wade ruling that protects abortion rights by simply widening their net from active abortions to all scenarios where a foetus/embryo/whatever ends up destroyed.

How... in any conceivable way.... does this make ANY sense?
A miscarriage is a natural thing, and if I remember correctly, its your body rejecting the fetus.
It can't really be helped, it falls under the category of "Shit happens" as sad as it is.

To make it a CAPITAL OFFENSE is just ridiculous! The mothers don't have control over whether they do or do not miscarriage, nor am I sure that they "intend" upon doing so. (that last statement is in regards to the mothers who desire to keep their children)

This entire bill is ludicrous and should it pass, then the people who decide to pass these laws are simply insane. I can't see a rational human being supporting this. But I've been wrong before :\\

THEY ALL MUST DIIEEE. For real real? Not for play play? Does he plan to make a follow up bill that makes having a period a misdemeanor? lol

I think this is what happens when you pick a random name to vote for on the ballot when you don't know who's on the list to begin with. This guy would appear to be some sort theoretical type of conservative that would have Islamic radicals who feel its fair punishment to stone a woman to death if she cheats on her husband going a-BUUUUH?

Shooting the messenger becomes a problem when it distract from the message.

unfortunately neutral news just doesn't sell, not well enough, you have to take and angle and editorialise and the best thing you can do is look at all the angles and have good personal judgement to see where the facts end and the opinions begin.

Can we do that?

Don't be that "i'm a Mac" kid from that Die Hard movie who bitches and moans about having to get critically important information from Fox news. Lesson: Real men- I guess women too - ADULTS can listen to other people's opinions and not be afraid of them infecting their mind. They can discern fact from opinion, home in on the facts and file the opinions in appropriate portion of their memory.

Well, shit that's stupid. I guess it has to do with them being fundamentalist assholes and trying to outlaw abortion. So I guess they are trying to outlaw... illegal abortions? Fuck my head hurts.

Only in the states, thankgod I live in civilised europe. Also what do expect from a state whose denizens thought it was being invaded during the 2008 South Ossetia war.

Mod Edit: Trolling - please be more careful about berating a country full of people
Bahahaha. Civilized Europe? Dude, you can't even spell it right. I happen know at least one intelligent Georgian. Or maybe he was from Serbia... Anyways, just because one person does (or says) something thats fucked up doesn't mean that the entire country (or continent) is "uncivilised" as some would spell it. Just because Hitler lived in Europe doesn't make the whole continent evil. Hell, it doesn't even make Germany a bad place. Two things: Shut up and quit trolling.

Why is living in a civilized country so great anyways? Define civilized cuz the U.S. pretty much got everybody beat as far as military goes. Yes even China.
