2 words, bad parenting, there are other ways of punishment. I just finsihed watching the whole video, and well its horrible, the child was clearly in pain, and for someone to have the nerve to do that to a child. its horrible. and anyone who said i have no problem with this watch that whole video end to end. and think would i be happy to do that to a small child?

Wait what? Sure the Punishment is pointless and very ineffective but having a mouthful of hot-sauce and taking a cold shower seems very low on the 'evil' scale compared to the thousands of other kids getting beaten. Still wrong but exaggerated.Oscar90 said:

wow this is actually some solid parenting advice. whenever i have kids and they lie to me i will force them to drink hotsauce. no actually i'm abit more like house, where he got impressed over cuddys child for lying so easily. : p i probably won't punish my kids for lying, just for lying badly. Also.. i would probabl never get outsmarted by a 7 year old so i would probably imediatly know if a child was lying to me, and well it would have to be pretty serious for me to care.
after giving this some thought i could actually see some parents where i come from use this if they had a problem with their child lying a lot. still.. the child was lying about something he would get in trouble for anyways, so lying is more or less apropriate in my eyes in such a situation. also it seems this mom by punishing this kid is sort of forcing him to lie. if you get punished alot for everything, well then lying to get away is obviously the better choice, since the best case scenario of not lying is geting punished, and the worst case scenario for lying is punishment.

Couple of days ago 2 of my cousins lied blatantly to my face, when I found out which was about 10 seconds later that they were lying I was pissed right off told em not to do it again, but are they going to listen? Doubt it.
The worst part is I reckon they are going to do it again and again and again if their older brother is anything to do by. He actually told his parents that I told him to tell his younger siblings Santa wasn't real. He just had a fight with them and wanted to upset them so he said the above and to get away with it he told his rents that I told him to say it.
Couple of hours later my mum said it to me and I was kinda shocked, but he's smart enought to know that they would believe I told him to do that. I'm the black sheep of the family to be fair but I'd never dream of doing anything like that. They got it out of him eventually but his 2 younger sisters have demonstrated they are well capable of lying aswell.
Tobasco sauce is rank, I hate it and a cold shower is a bit :/ too if I'm honest. I felt awful when he started crying :'(

You say it seems unreasonable for the mom to not do anything while the daughter was videotaping this. It was unreasonable for her to torture her kid. She's sick in the head. She probably didn't care that she was being taped. Look at how many people do stupid things when they know they are on tape these days. Hell, this could be a cell phone video that the daughter was covertly taping. Good on her for turning it in.DanielBrown said:

There is a fine line between discipline and abuse. From my limited knowledge of this woman's actions and what exactly the child did to warrant such punishments, I would classify this as discipline. Hot sauce and cold showers: An odd choice but I would define this as discipline (not much different than spanking, really...)
I am of the mind that there should be tangible punishments for doing something wrong. I can say that spanking and yelling certainly established the causal action as 'wrong' far better than being told to go to my room or being grounded. If there's not some sort of lasting impression on the wrongdoer, then the punishment will mean nothing.
Not knowing how often this kind of punishment was carried out and not knowing the degree to which it was carried out (Jersey Death would be a far more harsh punishment than Tabasco) it's hard to judge her fairly. If we simply go by how much her child cried, then most all parents would probably be guilty of child abuse at one time or another...

also could you link to an article about hotsauce used as torture in any countries? now i could see daves insanity hotsauce be used as torture, but what this woman gave their adopted son is tobasco, which well.. as torture would not get anyone to spill the beans.bahumat42 said:
