2 words, bad parenting, there are other ways of punishment. I just finsihed watching the whole video, and well its horrible, the child was clearly in pain, and for someone to have the nerve to do that to a child. its horrible. and anyone who said i have no problem with this watch that whole video end to end. and think would i be happy to do that to a small child?

So apparently there are 38 sadists or trolls on this site. This is technically a form of torture, and the mother should be sent to prison! He tortured him because he got into a fight at school! Any one who thinks this is in any form justified is evil!

The fact that this person isn't in prison is nothing short of proof that the legal system is messed up! This could actually be treated as attempted murder!

If i lied to my mom, she usually just took my laptop away for the next 24 hours. She didn't even yell at me, she just explained that lying is wrong! This is some seriously messed up shit.
Wait what? Sure the Punishment is pointless and very ineffective but having a mouthful of hot-sauce and taking a cold shower seems very low on the 'evil' scale compared to the thousands of other kids getting beaten. Still wrong but exaggerated.

Ha! The poor kid's in a paradox, if he'd told her that he was fighting at school he would have been punished anyway!
I wonder what would have happened if he didn't lie, get an Ice-Cream and a pat on the back?

this is sick, but i cant help feeling that its fake. i mean, the woman definitely notices shes being filmed, and doesnt react. and this daughter knows how to use the camera, cut parts of the video out, and sent it to dr phil? unlikely.

i really hope it isnt real, if it is then its absolutely appalling.

wow this is actually some solid parenting advice. whenever i have kids and they lie to me i will force them to drink hotsauce. no actually i'm abit more like house, where he got impressed over cuddys child for lying so easily. : p i probably won't punish my kids for lying, just for lying badly. Also.. i would probabl never get outsmarted by a 7 year old so i would probably imediatly know if a child was lying to me, and well it would have to be pretty serious for me to care.

after giving this some thought i could actually see some parents where i come from use this if they had a problem with their child lying a lot. still.. the child was lying about something he would get in trouble for anyways, so lying is more or less apropriate in my eyes in such a situation. also it seems this mom by punishing this kid is sort of forcing him to lie. if you get punished alot for everything, well then lying to get away is obviously the better choice, since the best case scenario of not lying is geting punished, and the worst case scenario for lying is punishment.

I... huh? My mom used to threaten to do that to me all the time. Kept me in line real well. There's a good chance I'll do the same with my kids. It works. Since when is this wrong?

No wonder everyone hates americans, lock that ***** up and never allow her to have children.
Agreed. Tie her tubes with a shotgun.
Uh, guys?

Now, this is hardly the worst thing that happens to kids, but it's still pretty fucked up. She should definitely have custody taken away.

.... I don't think of strong enough words for something like this. That child should be taken to a home that will treat him so much better then this ***** will. She shouldn't be around kids.

Actually, there is in the video. He got in trouble at school, and then lied about it. Doesn't deserve a mouthful of hotsauce (poor kid) and a freezing cold shower, that's just brutal.
Hey, rules are rules. In that house, you don't lie to your parents. End of.

Seriously? Rules are rules? Words cannot explain the intense ignorance of your statement.
Her house, her rules. If the boy didn't want a cold shower, he shouldn't have lied.
So... if the rules of my house were... if you say, betray my trust, you get locked in the cold, pitch black basement for a day with starving rats... would that also count as "My House, My Rules"?
Pretty much. I wouldn't betray your trust in your house.
You do realize what I stated is torture, right? As in, something that can get me time behind bars.
All the more reason not to betray your trust.
So... you fully encourage me to torture someone i.e perform illegal acts on someone just because it's my house?

Couple of days ago 2 of my cousins lied blatantly to my face, when I found out which was about 10 seconds later that they were lying I was pissed right off told em not to do it again, but are they going to listen? Doubt it.

The worst part is I reckon they are going to do it again and again and again if their older brother is anything to do by. He actually told his parents that I told him to tell his younger siblings Santa wasn't real. He just had a fight with them and wanted to upset them so he said the above and to get away with it he told his rents that I told him to say it.

Couple of hours later my mum said it to me and I was kinda shocked, but he's smart enought to know that they would believe I told him to do that. I'm the black sheep of the family to be fair but I'd never dream of doing anything like that. They got it out of him eventually but his 2 younger sisters have demonstrated they are well capable of lying aswell.

Tobasco sauce is rank, I hate it and a cold shower is a bit :/ too if I'm honest. I felt awful when he started crying :'(

Then again I'm not a parent and I wouldnt have a clue how to stop a kid lying, I mean how can you? Without going for the wooden spoon or in her case tobasco sauce and a cold shower.

fear is a good way to keep your kids in line, it works. it's also transferable to the real world, if you do something bad, you get punished for it.

Who followed around, video taping the event? I don't trust most things I see on the TV, but if a mother did that to her kid - I think it's best for the kid to get transfered someplace else.

Edit: Finished watching the video, and they said the daughter shot the tape. Still seems a bit unreasonable that the mother didn't do anything. If someone was following me with a camera I'd turn it off and take it away no matter what I was doing.
You say it seems unreasonable for the mom to not do anything while the daughter was videotaping this. It was unreasonable for her to torture her kid. She's sick in the head. She probably didn't care that she was being taped. Look at how many people do stupid things when they know they are on tape these days. Hell, this could be a cell phone video that the daughter was covertly taping. Good on her for turning it in.

You just repeated your stupid statement using different words, thus doubling your stupid.

You think that the person in charge can just make any fucking rule they please? If the rule doesn't fit the crime, then the rulemaker is at fault.

And you act as if a 5 year old knows better. He lied because he didn't want to get the cold shower as punishment for getting in trouble at school. He lied because he was AFRAID of his mother. His mother finds out, and pours tabasco sauce on his little face as well as putting him in freezing water. You do realize that can kill him, right? What are you gonna say now? "If he doesn't want to be killed, he shouldn't lie." Is this what your parents brought you up to think?
Well... Yes. He shouldn't do that if he doesn't want to be killed... Wait... How can that kill him? O_O
Hypothermia. A 5 year old should not be surrounded by cold water. Keep in mind the family lives in Alaska. It's damn cold there. You wouldn't drop a kid into a lake in Alaska, thus you shouldn't give a kid a cold shower in Alaska. It's really not that complex.

There is a fine line between discipline and abuse. From my limited knowledge of this woman's actions and what exactly the child did to warrant such punishments, I would classify this as discipline. Hot sauce and cold showers: An odd choice but I would define this as discipline (not much different than spanking, really...)

I am of the mind that there should be tangible punishments for doing something wrong. I can say that spanking and yelling certainly established the causal action as 'wrong' far better than being told to go to my room or being grounded. If there's not some sort of lasting impression on the wrongdoer, then the punishment will mean nothing.

Not knowing how often this kind of punishment was carried out and not knowing the degree to which it was carried out (Jersey Death would be a far more harsh punishment than Tabasco) it's hard to judge her fairly. If we simply go by how much her child cried, then most all parents would probably be guilty of child abuse at one time or another...

What are the "3 cards" anyway? What did the kid do? Fuck..give him a spank or ground him, but what she did i is used as torture methods in some countries.
hot sauce is used as torture in some countries. Well i wish those countries good luck in getting somebody to speak with hot sauce in their mouth.
also could you link to an article about hotsauce used as torture in any countries? now i could see daves insanity hotsauce be used as torture, but what this woman gave their adopted son is tobasco, which well.. as torture would not get anyone to spill the beans.

i kinda doubt the shower water would be cold enough to give the kid hypothermia. and i would agree with you that killing the kid for lying would be abit extreme. but the kid is fine and have probably endured manny cold showers. (it is quite obvious he's been punished before, since he already knows what's comming.)

how would you punish your kid for lying?

well such a punishment tends to wear of after the years. most punishment a parent gives to a child stops as the child grows up anyways.

also your probably not scarred for life, and can still enjoy spicy food? : p
