I started to lose favor with Nintendo around the release of the N64, where I brief stint as a Sony fanboy (I was a youngling)

I never really got back into Nintendo very much, I got a Wii (on release day), played it for a few months...realized all that was required to play 90% of the games released on the system was to wildly flail my arms about, got bored with it, and never turned it on again. Lack of quality titles on the Wii didn't help this much. The last time I turned on my Wii was months ago, and it was only to play SSBB with a few friends.

I can appreciate the idea of trying to create a new generation of gamers (as well as tap into the previous generations), but really, there isn't much in terms of fun quality titles of the system. There is literally NOTHING for the Wii that I think "Wow, I have to buy that!".

I don't HATE them, but I really wish they'd make games that actually appealed to me.

Honestly, you'll find some rather mindless Nintendo hatred here. For some reason the PC Gaming Master Race takes particular offense to Nintendo's very existence.
Really? Because I was raised on Nintendo and am now more a PC gamer than anything, but I still have great respect for the company.

That being said, I do feel like Nintendo hasn't been releasing as good of games as one would hope. On the Wii alone, 2 Mario Galaxies, 2 Zeldas, A pseudo-Kirby, and remakes of DK, Mario, and Metroid (ala Metroid Prime Trilogy).

Whatever happened to StarFox? F-Zero? Actual Kirby? Why not make a new IP for the Wii like Pikmin was with the gamecube (but make it more interesting)? I honestly think there is a lot this company can do to innovate the medium but they rather play it safe with sequels and remakes. While I respect the fact that they are doing good business because of that, I'm just disappointed as a "games-r-art" person that with all the resources they have, they don't do more.

EDIT: Also, maybe a little more 3rd party support would be good too. I'd love to see developers try to improve FPS games for consoles by using Wii controls. but since no one tries to do it, we're left with crappy games like Red Steel or moderately decent games like Metroid Prime. A little more effort is really all I'm asking. More risk with the cash mountain rather than playing it safe all the time. I don't think that's asking for too much.

They just keep making sequels of the same old tired franchises that were never particularly deep to begin with. They're highly restrictive as to who they license to make games for their consoles, and on a whole are doing very little other than cash in on what they know will keep making them money. It may be sound business practice, but they are doing very little to advance the medium. (And no, I do not count motion control as an advancement.)
The Wii is nothing more than an updated Powerglove. Not to insult the Wii, but it is.

Ugh, should add a bit onto my post. Not sure why I hit post so soon. The reason I say the Wii is just like the Powerglove is that they're both motion control technology that add nothing to gameplay that a wired controller can't do better, except perhaps create broken technology due to slippery hands/grips.

The Powerglove never caught on because well, the technology was new, the NES itself was more or less a new thing and it couldn't handle signals very well as a result of weaker hardware. The Wii is simply a Powerglove in an age where technology has advanced to the point that getting the wiimote to respond is far, far less annoying than the Powerglove, and is much easier to use as it's held in one hand instead of worn as a heavy peripheral on a hand, wrist, and forearm.

I like Nintendo for the most part. I just wish nintendo could ditch the console market and focus solely on the portable market where they have actually done some could in the past 10 years.

Nintendo fell out of favor with me when "The Revolution" became the Wii, I stopped buying stuff from them when I played Twilight Princess from the sitting position at a friends house and managed to play it quite well.

I was a die hard nintendo fanboy prior to the Wii, now I just have fond memories of what they were and thank them for being the prominent gaming presence in my childhood.

-EDIT-
Oh and I lost respect for them when I managed to perform better in Brawl playing with a gamecube controller instead of a Wiimote.

ok nintendo is a great company with a good history of games. That said the wii kinda sucks and it hurts me to say that:( What they need to do is make more games like the ones on the gamecube. I mean if they made another "Metroid Prime" game i think theyed actualy start doing better.(i used metroid prime as an example of what a good gamecube game was)

I acknowledge what Nintendo have done for the gaming industry over the years, but personally I despise them.

They keep re-making the same games over and over and the stupid customers keep buying them.
This in itself is not worthy of my hatred, but I have other, more personal, reasons.
You see I own a wii I mostly play xbox though. I always pick up the new zelda game, I played mario kart for a little bit, and donkey kong country was really fun. Their not remaking the same game, sure it's the same italian plumber but story isn't what drives mario games its the gameplay. Yeah his sports games are awful. New Super mario bros. was questionable. But mario galaxy games are very fun. I can say the same for titles like kirby, donkey kong etc.

other story driven games no ones wants them to change such as zelda. People love the characters and the locations. You could just label everything differently but what's the point. If you actually play the games and compare them over the years their very different aside from a few direct sequels.

thats one of my problems with the wii, sure alot of "hardcore" gamers will talk about its merits, but those same "hardcore" gamers also own a PS3 or Xbox, the wii cant sustain a hardcore gamers diet on its own, and mabye thats not what its for

and honestly why would somone want to spend that extra money (mabye not so much now but still) if they arnt into Mario/zelda? Metroid...the best of the nintendo trinity has been ruined (yeah thats subjective but still)

Id raher own an xbox and ps3 than a wii and somthing else

Before I get anywhere else, I own a NES, SNES a Game Cube, a GBA, A DS lite and a Wii (I gave the Wii away to my mother) I had a N64 but I sold that sorry POS.

Now I got that out of the way, I HATE NINTENDO. I hate how they recycle the same 5 franchisees. I Do not mind the quality of there new titles, I just wish it was not Mario, Samus, Pickachu, Link or Kirby.

Last 2 original ideas they had was Electroplanton and Animal Crossing. One is a obscure title in the US and the other is the SIMS but on crack. Honestly the last good Nintendo system I own was the SNES. They gave the completion a run for their money. It was the N64 that threw me off Nintendo, crappy controller that breaks easily, terrible games, out of the decent games, only 2 were console exclusives The Original Golden Eye and Legend of Zelda OoT, maybe Star Fox 64 if I was drunk first. As for the Wii, there NOTHING INNOVATIVE ABOUT IT!!!
Motion control, tried it with the U-force and power glove on the NES, crap then polished crap now. Opening the market to new audiences fine, just don't piss on your old customer base. From a tech Standpoint the Wii is a Gamecube with 480p composite video support and built in Wifi. Virtual console, sure if my online account was not permanently attached to the console it self. Say your Wii dies and you have $45 in downloaded game for the virtual console and Wiiware, you out $45 bucks. Also there emulators, or in my case original hardware.

I don't really have anything against them, I just don't really enjoy any of their games. It's not that they're bad, they're just not my type of games.

Nintendo really doesn't need to flaunt themselves 100% of the time to stay afloat, they just let their franchises do it for them. Sure in this day and age they take an extra step to make a game stand out but that's only to emphasize the true separation from other companies work and their own. (even if that extra step reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally wasn't that necessary or too much.) Needless to say, they're around but they seem 'hidden' do to other companies trying to win gamers over to them.

I I have heard, and I did mention Golden Eye was one out of 2 N64 games I did like. I felt that Banjo Kazooie/Tooie and Donkey Kong 64 was just a re-skinned Mario 64, and I despised 3d Platforming from that era especially Mario 64. Rare also made Perfect Dark (a re-skined Golden Eye )and Killer Instinct (bad fighting game), the only Nintendo fighting game that isn't Smash bros

They do what they do fairly well, I suppose, but it's just not what I care about any more. I guess I've grown up both in age and as a gamer and I don't find the majority of their offerings of any interest these days. That's not to say they never do anything I find appealing, it's just that I can't justify buying a Nintendo system only to have it sit on my shelf collecting dust until the 1 or 2 games a year I'll actually play on it come along.

Before I would've said "Yeah, I like nintendo." Now it's just Ehh... Nintendo isn't something I can get into anymore, there's not much that it has that interests me and if I did end up playing a wii game it wouldn't last for more than a few days at most probably.

im not a fan anymore, considering that they have shown a downgrade in each console (imo) after the N64. they clearly dont give a flying fuck about graphics or how much their console SHOULD be able to handle, so Wii gamers dont get to play the badass third-party games that everyone else gets to. and they dont care about traditional gamers like myself, who dont WANT to waggle a wiimote to play a game.

ive passed up several promising Wii titles because they dont allow gamecube controller support.
