Can't look any further than Brosnan, simply because he gave us Goldeneye.

Just wanted to add that I'm glad I'm not the only person who thinks Goldeneye was great. In my opinion it was the best Bond movie ever made, and the ONLY Bond movie that can be taken even slightly seriously with regard to the narrative. That said, I never felt Brosnan was an effective Bond because he doesn't look like a secret agent, he looks like an underwear model. He would be one of the worst ever people at blending into a crowd.
I like Bond as a posh git the most, and Brosnan did this better than anyone else. I take the view that if I want a spy who spreads seven shades of awesome everywhere and I don't mind dropping the class, I'll take Bourne.

I'm not enough of a Bond fan to have a valid opinion, but Brosnan was just so suave that he felt more like the character I think Bond is than any other actor I've seen. Obviously Connery is second to Chuck Norris as far as being a badass, but he just doesn't give me that "sexy man-beast" vibe that I expect the girls to fall for. He seems like the type that would just focus on kicking the evil mastermind's ass and will gladly accept any chicks that want to throw themselves at him. Brosnan has to fight off both villains AND the chicks because they are both flying at him while he's trying to work. I guess that means not only does he get to have it all in the spy business, but he does a better job because he handles more at once too.

Well, it's just that the "Secret" part of Bond's job description seems more like a bad joke. In every Bond movie (with Brosnan) he's always entering the bad guy's fortress during daylight wearing a white tuxedo while simultaneously making out with 3 cocktail waitresses and Blofeld's personal trainer, Helga. And he usually only brings along his pistol. Oh, and need I mention that the martial arts in all Bond movies has been and continues to be completely pathetic (though the new ones are pathetic for entirely different reasons which involve the abuse of dutch angles and really crappy camera work)?

I know, I know, arguing "realism" with a Bond movie. But that's why Goldeneye is great-because as fantastic as it is, Goldeneye is still one of the most grounded and realistic Bond movies while at the same time not sacrificing any of the great action and fabulous gadgets of the previous movies. Excluding Goldeneye, all the Bond films might as well be "Avatar" with more explosions, bullets and sex, for as realistic as they are.

I really can't pick the best bond, I prefer to pick the films.

I mean Sean Connery is the classic king of bond, but I honestly think the two best films are Goldeneye and The Living Daylights (Pierce Bosnan and Timothy Dalton) repsectively.
Good call

Goldeneye was brilliant, I have a theory that the best plots of James Bond films should be 50% plausible seriousness and 50% ridiculousness. Some of the early ones way too zany, the recent ones with Daniel Craig (as well as Timothy Dalton's License to Kill) are way too serious.

That the idea of stealing all of Britain's money before sending them back to a technological dark age via EMP, is kind of believable especially back in the nineties when the internet equaled magic in most people's minds, but it's still has the crazy underwater satellite stations, stealth choppers and hot assassins that kill with their thighs. The laser watch and exploding pen are relatively believable while being awesome (for weeks after seeing the film, I would only click my pens in series of 3s).

Plus they had Sean Bean as Alec Trevelyan, when casting him they wanted an actor that could have easily made a good James Bond and they succeeded.

I love Craig the most.

Casino Royale was the best bond-movie ever, and it is probably one of my favorite movies of all time. I like this re-imagining of bond, he isn't a pimp with guns and gadgets, he's a cold killer who only needs his skills. QoS wasn't as good as Casino, mostly because it was a straight-up action flick while Casino had other elements too. I still like to see a film with Craig in which he is more off a spy and not just a killing machine though.

Dalton's always been my favorite. I think had he been Bond a few years later, he'd have been going for a long time. As is the timing, and the legal issues with the franchise, killed it off.

But think about it: his were dark, they were gritty, his Bond didn't mess around. He was the "cold, gritty" Bond people wanted when they got Craig, he just happened to come along twenty years too early.

The Underdog for the win.
Aww yeeeah :D He's the one who nobody remembers :p i loved him man! (for those who dont know who he is, he also played skinner the supermarket owner in Hot Fuzz)

The most awesome bond actor. Please note that it isn't Daniel Craig's fault that james bond went all sissy and lovey-dovey in his films.
you mean "realistic"?
No, I think he means "much better".

It would have been good if it hadn't have fallen apart at the end. Plus if you have a villain who cries blood and you don't kill him in the lamest way (shooting). In an older bond film he would be hanging by one hand to bond over a pool of sharks and his tear drop would fall in the water, driving them into a frenzy, as Bond lets go. That would be awesome.

Not by my account. I think that would be stupid.

I liked the gritty realism in Casino. It wasn't silly like many other Bonds where it almost felt like it didn't take itself seriously. Although I always laugh when they make fun of the old Bond films in Casino.
