the beam you are using to melt off your enemy's face from down the street completely silent and invisible.
What?

You'd have to be pretty close with a laser even this strong to inflict burning damage onto another human and I'm pretty sure the big blue spot on their face would be a dead giveaway. It'd also take a while (and I don't mean minutes, more like hours) to burn through all of that flesh to get into a major organ.

Basically you're looking at some sort of ridiculous James Bond villain style setup here to kill someone with this.

Beam attenuation is a *****.

EDIT: It appears that everybody missed the "from close range" bit of the warning about the instant blinding.

Oh my! Look at that thing just slice right through that match from twenty feet away!
Oh...wait...

First question: "Is this FOR REAL?"
Second question, depending on answer to the first one: "Mom, where's your credit card?"

That needs to be made illegal.
No civilian should have access to weapons!
What about cars? Civilians have access to cars. In fact, I think you can buy them...
Cars have a use in society. What possible use does a high powered laser have in everyday life?
Let's see... apprehend criminals... cut cheese... protection from burglars... kill squirrels and other vermin without having to get your gun out and scare your neighbors... that's all I can think of right now.

But that isn't my point. My point was anything can be used as a weapon. Especially pointy or big things.

Did I just read the story wrong because it seems just to be a extremely powerful laser pen that can light fires and burn skin. These have been around for years

All I have to say regarding these is EPIC WIN!

Unfortunately, Canada isn't the UK and I doubt something like that would be made legal here.

just to clarify, why do you trust the government to the extent that you would gladly allow them monopoly on weapons? an armed man is a citizen, an unarmed man is a subject.

I'm going to build a suit of armour made of mirrors. It's the only way to be safe from the fiery cancer-causing wraithblade.

Reported!

OT: I feel I must relitterate. This laser is stupid idea.
wasn't trying to cause any offense.

OT: i probably agree with you Lord Cuthberton, but was just pointing out my astonishment at the severity of Demented Teddies post, which i kind of realised I hadn't done quite so succintly as I thought I had so read my following post for clarification. also, why the knee jerk report for a casual aside in a conversation, purely out of inteterest?

Just so you know you need to quote my post, not yours.

The state is far more trust-worthy then a random person I feel.
I am loyal to and trust the state, the state works for the benefit of the country.
The individual nearly all the time works for their own benefit.

Trust me, if the state collapsed and your country turned into an anarchist country I can gaurantee you that all the people with guns wont be as friendly as they are now.
I wish I could understand your trust in "The State" I think recent events (in britain at least) have shown us that our elected representatives are just as crooked, self serving, and - frankly - a fair bit more criminal than the rest of us. I simply think that the state should be viewed as what it is, a collection of individuals out for their own benefit. also just realised that might sound a little objectivist, I am not an Objectivist, I am a realist.
