Screw the competitive spirit, I'm tired of multiplayer crap.

i am in agreement with most of you here, in that single player is usually better and i don't think multiplayer should be the focus, but when it's done well multiplayer can be very good.

now, a lot of you are raging at cod, my first experience of online MP was with CoD4:MW, and this is on PC. it was awesome. servers were monitored, tubers were banned, players very rarely talked in game, and you could mute them anyway. in my experience, most players worked towards the objective too, then didn't just care about KDR, so no complaints there. sadly, this kind of gameplay has been in decline, to the point where i don't really do multiplayer anymore, because i can't stand most of the people, but that is no reason to boycott any future multiplayer games.

the state of games is everchanging, don't just black out any future that games may have, you could miss out on some truly rewarding experiences.

Wow, reading all these comments you'd think multiplayer=shooter.

There's other forms of games with multiplayer, such as fighting games. Does nobody play fighting games here?

Studies have shown that multiplayer games actually lead to more stress and anxiety usually while single player games reduce said levels.
This is so very true. My GF always knows when I'm playing multiplayer... instead of the usual quiet contented calm of my single player gaming, she hears thumps, guttural growls and swearing :D
I am a very calm person most of the time but in multiplayer I do get very pissed, miracle of sound has a point. Co-op and single player for the win! :)

The only decent multiplayer game I know of is Team Fortress 2. This could be because it has been going on for about 2-3 years (mabye more), and has plenty of time to iron out any glitches and unbalanced features that could be exploited.

Like the roll in Red Dead Redemption. It's like everyone is afraid to stand for more than 5 seconds or risk having their ankles explode or something.

Well, my first experiance with FPS multiplayer was probably Deus Ex - and the first game I jumped into apparantly contained at least 4 people that could ware noob's arses for hats within 20 milloseconds, so my kill rate didn't go up much. I don't think it even moved over three games, but I keeped trying anyway untill I just kind of got board. I attached that to being a noob, I guess, and since then I've been working on some stratergies. (Sneak, Computer hack, turrent takeover works well - and, belive it or not, if you do it right, charging forward with a flamethrower works just as well.)
Then I tried CoDBO, and I quit that to never look back after just ONE match. Whoever thought of a leveling system for any sort of multiplayer besides MMORPGs clearly had something wrong with their head, because it is one of the most noob unfriendly machanics ever invented. Seriously, I have to reach level 3 before I can pick what fucking weapons I'm using? The hell, man?

Either way, Multiplayer has this kind of problem, I guess - when a game gets old, the only people who stay behind are fans of it - and fans will know all the glitches, and they'll get used to using them untill it becomes second nature. So, when mr. found-the-game-in-a-skip walks in, it's going to feel like he's being cheated out of a good game - at least, untill HE learns all the glitches and secrets.

QUITE A SNIP THERE :)
give it time, your probably very angry right now.

i guess your a PC exclusive, in that case, expect cheating, its everywhere in the PC gaming world.

my advice to you, is if you can afford it, get a console, FAR less cheating, and the standard of quality is a little more relaxed, (still dickheads there though).

Being bad at a game makes him a pathetic human?

Huh. Funny, I always thought it was the opposite.
Not exactly, being a pathetic human is a racial skill, it comes in 90% of humanity, just like you try to attack the opposite group to make your position better and feel better
Okay, who pissed in your cheerios? Your HK-47 impression is rather lacking.

Anyway, cheating has always been a part of video-game multiplayer, for one thing. For another, if anything, it's a lot less now, so dramatically retiring (and making sure to tell everyone about it) from multiplayer seems... unnecessary.

Honestly, I can relate with the OP. Being tired of my usual game collection (mainly Guitar Hero spin-offs), I tried to venture into the world of FPS. Of course, I was uneducated about FPS games, so I went out and bought MAG.

Stop laughing at me.

I bought it back in August and have played it about three or four times to date. The real issue was that I joined late, so everyone else was ridiculously high-leveled while I was just trying to get some EXP. It frustrates me, and confirmed my distaste of the genre.

I'm actually on the other side of the fence at this moment.. I'm playing Bad Company 2 for the 360 for a while and there wasn't a single soul who started throwing insults at me. Where did all the kids go?

I don't really understand or like the multiplayer craze. I think game companies should focus on the single player campaigns again.
This. The only worthwhile multiplayer is local splitscreen with a few friends. That's about it. said that, however, having said that I will occasionally play some Black Ops or Bad Company 2 online.

Meh, I don't care much for multiplayer either. Most of my library, with a few exceptions, is filled with Single Player games and the ones that have multiplayer elements can still be played alone or have something like LBP's level design community.

I suppose there is the exception of fighting games, from time to time I'll try to find a Soul Calibur 4 match.
