But then again chemical castration is for those who wants to be castrated. Rapist should get the old "smashed between two rocks method"

Generally, I favor long-term permanent solutions. Castration for rapists is a good idea to me, regardless of the Amnesty International bullshit about it being cruel and inhumane. Your dick is a lot like a gun. You misuse it and hurt somebody, it should be taken away from you for good. (Although maybe that should only apply to repeat offenders, since I have heard of more than a few false accusations of rape where the accused was found guilty initially, but later proven to be innocent.)
How about chemical (and hence reversable) castration for first time offenders, surgerical castration elsewise. That way people who were wrongly convicted can have their punishment removed.

The government say how wrong doers should be punished and then a judge does an arse wipe thing like this.

Judge: "It is likely you will not be released for some very considerable period of time. " Menacing! that's the message we should give!! rapists will not be released from jail for a: CONSIDERABLE PERIOD OF TIME.

Brilliant!

F**k the justice system. It's a joke.
The justice system has been fucked for years now. Decades even. Did you know, that if you're under the age of 10 in America, and you rape someone, you don't even go to trial for it? They just release you to your parents.

9 year old, brought his dad's gun to school and robbed a few of his classmates with it, taking about 40 bucks, a fortune for a kid his age. You know what his punishment was? He had to return the money and say he's sorry.

This is pretty much the world our children are going to inherit. Nice, isn't it.
Judging by the example and the subject matter, it seems they're creating this world they're inheriting.

Robbery at gunpoint...ten years old. He didn't think "They'll be terrified and give me money", he just knew that guns get you places and things. That's a bad attitude. It's like the Uzi kid we heard about today

Not knocking Christians, but SOME types of Christians feel they have to forgive anything. If that's what they believe, then they obviously believe it very strongly to be tested like that.

I don't think them forgiving the rapist should have had ANY bearing on the case however, as I'm sure the victim didn't feel forgiving, and the parent cannot know what he went thru.

I sense one of the huge problems with criminal justice nowadays is stealing, burglary, property damage, etc, anything that involves MONEY seems to be judged far more harshly than sexual assault, violent assault, gbh, etc, and sometimes even rape.

We need to stop judging people on how much they've cost people, and start judging on how wrong their crime was. To me the biggest proof of this is all the ridiculous lawsuits, making a mockery of law.

I don't suppor the death sentence, but I do support longer sentences and tougher prisons.

I fucking hate the "justice system".
It's pathetic.
This kid should get a minimum of 20 years and 30 years of psycological (sorry if I spelled that word wrong, brain ain't working right) treatment.
The judge should also lose his job. Idiot.

Hm...give the rapist a needle. Makes (almost) everything better; this is a deadly needle.

Honestly, he should've been jailed the first time...and now only 3 years? If my faith in humanity wasn't already nil, I'd say it just got crushed.

Execute the man.

I don't care if he's 16 years old. Two rapes and he isn't even sorry? Sounds like good enough reason to kill him via lethal injection.

This kind of thing is why it astounds me that some people still have faith in the justice system. And Christianity.

Read any book by John Grisham, or at least see "A Time To Kill" so that you can hear Samuel L. Jackson scream, "YES THEY DESERVE TO DIE, AND I HOPE THEY BURN IN HELL!" Grisham was a practicing attorney for years before he became a novelist, so he knows the system inside and out. The justice system is all about finding loopholes and exploiting them like Nintendo whenever they realize something they've created is actually a good idea. Just like in an argument, it doesn't matter if you're right in a court of law; what matters is that you can argue better than your opponent. And don't piss off the jury.

Then there's the Christian parents. Christianity, I think, is like Communism: it'd be nice if people were capable of existing under such a system. It'd be nice. The problem is most people are no more naturally inclined to forgive and love unconditionally than they are to give up their private property for the benefit of people they have no reason to care about. In addition, as demonstrated here, sometimes people just shouldn't be forgiven.

I may be a cynic, but the amount of calls for torture and death penalties in this thread seriously depresses me. But don't let that stop you, bring out your torches and pitchforks...and let's hang ourselves a nig...err, rapist.

It is thought that the lenient sentence was partly because the boy's Christian parents forgave the criminal

Death penalty for rape, Now.
God bless you.

I agree with what so many of you have said in this thread about this being simply not good enough. I even empathise with those of you who say it's hard to care because this thing is so common these days. Justice is a complete joke.

I'm a Christian and have fallen victim to this heinous crime myself, did I forgive my attacker? No. Do I admit he needs help? Yes.
This doesn't mean we should pity these people just because they've obviously got a screw or ten loose.
He has scarred this child psychologically for life. He should pay with his - but death is just a release. He won't really suffer for what he did.

"Deep in prayer my cross to bear, I kneel upon the floor, temptations of a catholic priest aren't easy to endure." Sorry, I couldn't resist.
OT:personally, as most other people have said, this boy should face a far harsher punishment.

I 16 year old kid in my area was sent to jail for stabbing another Teenager. He got 30 years. The Teenager didn't die he was just stabbed. In this predicitment I wouldn't expect anything less then 20 years and if the judges in that area belive that is to harsh then they shouldn't even be in that line of work.
And what do you think this punishment whil acomplish. Will he be a better citizen after his 20 year punishment or after a re-education school for a couple of years. Letting him learn to not solve his problems by violence.

People often forget the purpose of a punishment. You do not punish someone out of revenge but because you want to make a good citizen out of him. Giving someone 30 years for stabing someone doesn't make a better citizen out of him it will actually make him worse because we all know that a prison is a learnig camp for criminals.

Now about the original story. Making a rapist do community service is not the way to learn him that what he did was not a good thing. He needs to go to a place were he wil learn not to take by force. To learn that rape is a bad thing. To re-educate him under the supervision of a psychiatrist. And not for 20-30 years but 2-5 years. This is more effective because this will give him a chance to make a life and a career for himself and see that you can get things by working for it.

This is a pretty long rant but this is what i have always believed. I am also against dead sentence because you are giving murderous a easy way out.
