I enjoy the site. I've learned to avoid the forums on sites.[footnote]That voice in my head is shouting "Apparently not well enough, ye twat!"[/footnote]

Everywhere is going to be filled with frankly disturbing people. Hell, they're out there in the real world somewhere, but I'm not going to quit life because of them.

I never visited the forums, but I still like the site itself.

Still addictive, but even so, some of the things seen in the OP's links are disturbing. Still, I never saw the forums or the, quite frankly, very very creepy people that inhabit them. I'd still like to think that they're the minority.

Thing is, in the end all that stuff isn't the stuff I see. What I get to see are the tropes and them being pointed out in various works for my amusement. That's it. So I can still enjoy it anyway.
If only I could say the same. Since I was part of the community behind the wiki, in those damned forums, I got exposed to it way too much, and it pretty much poisoned the site for me.

That's...that's really fucked up. ._. I guess I never went down the TVT Rabbit Hole enough to find that corner of the site. But man, after watching that video I don't think I can even go back to the site.

CAPTCHA: these parts

Yes, these parts are quite messed up Captcha thanks for noticing.

I find it funny that someone who meantioned frequenting ED and SA has a problem with your classic internet neckbeards on TVT of all things. But more to the point this isn't something that out there. I know one of the biggest contributors a while back to our own humble little forums use to openly discuss his love of loli in its manga form. It's the internet and also a a website for cataloguing tropes and I don't really see the point of censoring speciffic tropes.

I really can't give a shit about internet dramas anymore.

PS: never been to their forums so I'm not really casting judgement on either side.

So basically you're taking the SA side in the SA TVT war. Good to know. Why do we care again?
I support this guy. I hate both sites. They have nothing to offer to me.

Admittedly, it's been a while since I've been to the site, but when I went, it was pretty cool. I got into over-analyzing media that way.

I'd say your first mistake was going anywhere near their forums, though. There be dragons.

Oh, also, something I found kind of funny:

Remind you of any other sites you frequent?

Okay, I call bullshit, I haven't seen any forums here defending the kind of content that people on TvTropes are defending, and if you are referring to the main writers on this site, than the argument is really baseless.

Although I can't help but feel you wrote that to instigate this kind of reaction in the first place.

I started out fond of the place, until I saw the Wizards of Waverly Place page. It's paragraphs upon paragraphs of creepers insisting that because two underage siblings hug in a scene, they're totally boning and that's not abhorent at all you guys! Blrrrrrgggggh. The only, I repeat ONLY, good thing about the site is that it keeps those freaks off the streets and not stalking actual children.

I've only been to like, 2 of the pages on TV tropes ever...

...Maybe I'll just keep staying away for now.

Oh, come on now. If you haven't yet run into those kinds of people on these forums, then you clearly haven't been here long enough.

Seriously, there's always a few reasons to facepalm around these parts.

Of course I ran into those people, but I never saw anybody making a forum about it, which is why I said "I haven't seen any forums here defending the kind of content", and those previous people I mentioned were shot down by the mods, and there's more than a few reasons to facepalm everywhere, here I don't do it as much.

How lovely of you to call me a lunatic for enjoying a thought-provoking story with a good mix of comedy and drama and fairly complex characters. I suppose you also hate fans of Lolita, Pretty Baby, and The Blue Lagoon.

And the Kojika deletion isn't the only thing I take issue with at TVT. I only go there now for a couple of RPs and I have to remind myself not to venture into the Trope Repair Shop. It only makes me mad.
Yeah I have a problem if you are a fan of Lolita given where the names comes from [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lolita]. Its sick and not something that should be looked upon lightly.
Uh, dude, that's what he was talking about. The TV Tropes article for Lolita (the novel) was one of the pages that were deleted in all this mess. I've never read it, but it's supposed to be one of the all time classics of English literature. Pretty Baby, similarly, was an oscar bait (oscar winning?) movie from a while back. I don't know what The Blue Lagoon is, but my guess is something similar.

OT: It's news to me that there's a problem with TV Tropes, although granted, I don't venture into the forums often. Could someone give me a cliffs notes of what's happening here? I know one of the mods has started deleting all anime with underage female characters because some of them may be loli anime, but I'm not sure what set off the overreaction.

All I can really say is "lol, internet"

Fetishes are for 4-chan, not a wiki.

I find the site clever in picking out common stereotypes and overdone themes in certain media, but I never knew the forums where on the same level as 4chan.

Note to everyone: STAY CLEAR OF 90% OF THE INTERNET'S FORUMS.

For your health.

The page for the Lolita article was cut because people proved that they could not use the page maturely. There were people assigning tropes to it that made the villain antagonist out to be the victim, and interpreting the work as the child wanting to be molested, and being in control. Plus the inherent creepiness demonstrated in the video.

As for the rundown, this will get you started. Link [http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Administrivia/TheSecondGoogleIncident?from=Main.TheSecondGoogleIncident]

Sheesh. Looks like they should really just look for an alternative advertisement source. Looking at the changes that were made, pretty much everything except the parts about "pedophile overtones" is ridiculous, and didn't need to be cut. And I'm having a hard time remembering anything that promoted pedophilia in any of the trope pages I've read.

Edit: although what you said about Lolita does make that, at least, sound justified; yet another *chan site indeed.

Which section of the forums are the /b/ of that site? Cause looking through some of them I really don't see what the big deal is. Sure, some of the tropes are a little creepy but I have yet to see the creepiness in the forums.
