" You can do it, Darrel!" Shouted Gereld, confused by his choice of using Spike first. I thought that...whatever type Spike is has a disadvantage to flying types. What in the high holy hell have you got planned, Darrel?

"That was pretty good of you Alex, letting him borrow Cecily like that. Hopefuly she'll listen to him should it come to that" he said to Alex as he returned to where the others were watching.

"So, you want to get all serious then? Fine by me, but dont expect to get such an easy pass like your friend did over there. She beat my main team for starters like you so now it's time to get a little unconventional" he said as he unleashed his new pokemon, a tiny lime green, spherical bird popped out, it flapped its wings twice before settling down and staring at Spike with its calm, unblinking eyes.
"Go ahead, have the first move. My treat" Falkner said, goading him to lash out at the unassuming pokemon.

Alex looked mildly at Matt. "She'll listen. I told her to." He looked to the battle, his eyes narrowed "Shit! That's a Natu! Darrel's going to have to be really careful!"

Darrel bent down, and motioned for his Mankey to come closer. Spike ran over, and listened as his trainer whispered something to him. The little Pokemon hooted a bit in agreement, and turned to face the Natu, slowly drawing closer as he anticipated Darrel's order. Finally, the young trainer took a breath and spoke.

"Okay Spike, just like we practiced, use a Low Kick!"

Spike went running at the Natu, and jumped in the air before landing on its side, sliding towards the little bird along the ground. Spike furrowed his brow and waited for the cue.

"What's so bad about a little thing like that?' Said Gereld, confused by Alex's concern about spik going up against such a tiny bird. Though I will admit, it's unblinking eyes are quite unnerving. He thought.

"A Natu? What kind of problems could a tiny thing like that cause? Even if he is a fighting type I dont see how it could do anything against a charging Mankey" Matt said, curious as to how it could make for a difficult fight, even with type disadvantages.

Falkner didnt seem bothered at all by the plan Darrel seemed to hatch with his pokemon "Natu, let's show him this wont be as easy as he thinks it'll be. You dont need to fly to avoid him, use Teleport" he said, wanting to come back from the loss with Lily by toying with Darrel a bit.
The spherical bird nodded imperceptibly and just before the moment of impact it's eyes glowed brightly as it seemed to fade from view, leaving an afterimage. The Natu then reappeared quickly where the Mankey was at the start of the match, in front of Darrel. It half turned to look at him wisely.

Alex looked over. "Its not the size. Its the types. It's psychic flying! Its got a double resistance to fighting moves! Ugh! It knows teleport! This should be a difficult fight."

"Right, it's a Psychic type." Darrel said more to himself than anyone else. "Of course he'd know the most annoying moves possible." He thought about it for a split second before deciding on the course of action to take. "Spike, don't let it bother you, just go for another Low Kick."

The Mankey hopped up to his feet and charged the Natu again, rolling back onto its side and sliding towards it at max speed.

Lily sat down between Jason and Matt, grinning from ear to ear. She was so happy that she had gotten to beat the cocky smirk off of Falkner's face. Seeing him fall so hard to a strategy that her seven year old self had come up with was equally as entertaining. Looking to Matt, she asked him, a bit cockily, "Well, did I live up to your expectations?"

She then turned her gaze to the battle, trying to pick up the commentary from the various comments from the other members of the group. Apparently Falkner's Pokemon was a Natu, a Flying and Psychic Pokemon, both of which are strong against the Fighting type, which was what Darrel's Mankey was... And according to Chell and her Munchlax she was a giant skankbag.

Lily was incredibly annoyed. Every time Chell spoke, she became flustered. Lily was glad she was going to be leaving this ragtag bunch soon.

What in the hell is he doing? The stupid little bird is just going to teleport again, so why have Spike charge at it? Thought Gereld, feeling confused on what kind of strategy Darrel was using, though he didn't really know what other kind of strategy would be more prudent.

Matt looked away from the fight to speak to Lily "You did great Lily" he said to her, and couldnt help but grin a bit himself at her own smile. "How'd you come up with an idea to confuse that bird before attacking it like that?"

"Alright then, time to show him the diffrence between flight and fight. Natu, use your Nightshade to shut that monkeys move down!" The Natu responded to the claim by apearing to become outlined in a red energy, and out of it's two unblinking eyes shot out a ghostly beam of crimson red energy, aimed straight at the oncoming primate.

Darrel smiled wildly, his plane finally getting into action. "Okay Spike, now!"

On his cue, Spike flipped, and then rolled off to the side agilely as the crimson beams shot past him harmlessly. Spike then jumped up, and remembering the other part of Darrel's orders, charged forward hooting and hollering as the little claws on his hand sprung up. He hopped forward at the Natu and used his Scratch attack to try and catch the bird off guard.

Lily paused for a moment after Matt had asked her about her strategy. She missed her father greatly, and she had to fight hard in the middle of the battle to not break down and sob. Bottling up her sorrow, she made up a quick half-truth to tell Matt so as to get the conversation, and her mind, off of her father.

"Oh..." she breathed out gently. "Well... It was something I learned about in school a long time ago. I have..." She fished for words for a moment. "Um... Really good memory."

Trying to change the subject, and wanting to know how much closer she was to her goal, Lily asked Matt, "So... How much money do I get for beating him? And what else do I get, besides the badge? I need to know what I need to get before I set off, again."

Alex patted her on the shoulder. "Listen, Lily. You should really travel with us. You do only have one pokemon and not terribly much battling experience. And why not? It'd be lonely, and the rest of us would appreciate it."

"The thing is Alex, if Lily travels with us, she'll also have to travel with Chell, and so far I think Chell has made things...uncomfortable for Lily." Said Gereld, trying to put as little emphasise on Chell's downright verbal abuse of Lily.

Alex sighed. "I'll see to that... little problem. Plus, its not like you two always act like children... I hope..."

Gereld Just looked at Alex, not feeling it was tactful to point out that, so far, Chell had pretty much acted like a child since leaving New Bark town.

Turning back to the match, Gereld began fiddling with his Pokeballs, Condsidering who he should use first.

Alex let Rhodes and Horus out of their pokeballs. "Who would I use? Well I'd probably start with Rhodes and use a combination of supersonic and leech life. Cecily would be my second out and Horus would be last..." Rhodes chittered happily and landed on Alex's shoulder. Horus bleated stupidly.

" Yeah, I can see why you'd use Horus last." Said Gereld, Giving the Mareep barely a glance before returning to his own deliberations.

Matt could sense that this line of dialogue was leading down to unstable grounds, and decided to wrap it up as best he could. "Well then, it certainly came in and saved the day at the end. Also, as for what you get along with a badge I have no idea, I guess you'll have to wait for it at the end along with the others"

The Natu didnt flinch as the Mankey came flying at it with a Scratch, and though it could have teleported with more distance it didnt have any space to do so now. The blow knocked the spherical bird backwards onto it's back, but it just as quickly rolled back to it's feet, appearing no worse for wear.
"Now that he's close enough, go for another Nightshade!" And as Falkner said that, the Natu's eyes light up again and it fired the blast again, though this time much close to its target.
