"No." Alex responded faintly. "I love you, Chell. I love you so much. You're charming, sweet, intelligent and beautiful. I love you."

"Sid, huh? I'm Lily," she introduced herself. There was an awkward pause between them as she unwrapped another bar for herself. She bit at it lightly while she thought about the boy sitting next to her. She most certainly couldn't leave him here on his own now that she had found him. She felt a strange sort of kinship with him. "So who's this Pooch? Is he a Pokemon? Are you a trainer?"

Jason walked out of the Pokemart, his backpack now slightly heavier then it had been when he had arrived in Violet City. He saw Lily sitting over by the gym with another boy, and figured it was just Lily saying her last goodbyes to people she might know here. He walked over to the lake and sat down on a rock, watching as Bagon went to go play around in the other rocks.

"Pooch? No, he's not my Poochyena. He's a wild pokemon, he's been watching me for a couple months." Sid grumbled, "I think he lives somewhere nearby because I see him on a near daily basis."

Not having any idea what a Poochyena was, Lily pressed the conversation in a new direction. She needed to get this kid off of the streets and into a home, or at the very least, with her. Seeing as how he didn't seem to have any intention of taking on the Pokemon League, this seemed plausible.

"Not yours? So you don't wanna do the Gym and League Challenge and that whole bit?"

"No, it would be nice to leave this place but I don't have any money or even a pokemon. I'm pretty much stuck here." He sighed and examined the remains of the bar, "I'm gonna save the last for Pooch, he's been looking kinda thin lately."

Lily was speechless for a moment. The boy was putting a Pokemon's health before his own. 'Maybe he's got a bleeding heart... But there aren't enough people like that in the world anymore. I can't leave him out here to die.' Lily had made her decision.

She grabbed one of the Pokeballs that she had bought moments ago and dropped it in Sydney's hands. He looked at her, confused, as she stood up.

"Alright," she began. "You obviously don't have anyone or anything here for you in this city besides that Pokemon. So it makes no sense to me why you're just sitting here and letting your life go by! You need to make something of yourself! Its obviously not gonna happen if you just sit around, grabbing things out of the trash! So pack up. Today is the day you leave Violet City behind you, and you start your new life in the world. We're gonna go catch that Pokemon and get out of here, ok?" Lily smiled at him. She had to help this boy. She couldn't live with herself if she abandoned someone so like her.

"Wh-what?" Sid stammered and was hoisted up, "B-but I wouldn't be able to feed him, I can't even feed myself. Sure there isn't anything for me here but I don't have any reason to leave, at least I can survive here."

That didn't stop her from pushing him towards the woods. Whoever she was she had a heart, he had to give her that. He kept on pleading with her until he tripped over a tree root and landed on his face.

"And on top of all that, I don't know how to even catch a pokemon!"

As Lily and Sid spoke, Darrel sort of shambled by, his pack now full of various items. He had spent a little over half of his newly-earned cash on a pair of Pokeballs to catch more Pokemon. He had also taken a trip to the Pokemon Center and healed Spike of the injuries he had taken during the battle. Now he had to decide what to do next. As far as he could tell he had two choices. The first was to go with Matt, Alex, and Chell. This thought did not appeal to him. While Alex and Chell were nice people on their own, together they made the kind of sloppy couple that drove Darrel insane. As unlikely as it seemed many things were capable of annoying the happy-go-lucky trainer. The other option was to try and force Lily to let him come along. He assumed Jason would do the same, and though it was the more difficult option Darrel figured it would be a lot more bearable.

"Neither did I when I caught my first Pokemon yesterday!" Lily retorted. The kid was, naturally, afraid and confused, which is exactly how Lily would feel if someone walked into her life and started calling the shots for her.

"Look, Sid," she explained. "I've lived my fair share of time in the wilderness, on my own, without a home... Just like you." She sighed slightly. "I can guarantee you this. If you stick with me, you'll be safer and happier than you've been in your whole life. Are you willing to take a chance, Sid?"

Sid stared back at Lily, she was determined if anything. Sid took a deep breath and turned away from her, looking deeper into the forest. It was a big world outside Violet City, and leaving everything he knew his entire life behind over some girl he just met. In the little time he'd known her she treated him better than the entire town.

"Okay, I'll go. But-" He turned back to Lily, "I've tried looking for Pooch before and he never shows up. He shows up when I'm not looking for him to watch me. If anything we have to sit and wait for him."

Darrel had stopped and was listening to their conversation. After the boy, apparently named Sid, had explained the situation Darrel fished around in a pocket and came up with a Pokeball. He tossed it over to the boy and said "Take it, I don't need it." And kept walking. He figured if he was ever going to convince Lily to let him tag along he'd need to start building up points in his favor. Generosity was a logical step.

"Uh, thanks..." Sid blushed, he wasn't so used to getting positive attention so he turned away, "In any case, Pooch will be around when I don't need him."

He looked to his left when he heard the bushes rustling. He held his breath and glared. First he saw red pupils and then out stepped the black and grey Poochyena. He looked from Lily to Darrel to Sid and finally stopping at the pokeball in Sid's hands. He tilted his head to the left and wagged his tail.

"Uh... hey Pooch..." Sid chuckled nervously.

"Pooch!" He happily yipped.

"I, uh, noticed you were looking kinda thin so I brought you half of what I got to eat." Sid took a step closer to Pooch and he stood on all fours, ready to run. "It's okay, Pooch. See, food..."

Sid placed the rest of his bar on the ground and took a step back. Then Pooch looked at him to the bar and began eating it, not even keeping his guard up and his fur matted down.

"What do I do now?"

Lily tried to stop Darrel, but not a sound could come out of her throat. It didn't seem like Darrel at all to be charitable. She looked back to Sid, who was staring at a grey hound.

"What do I do now?" he asked, to which Lily immediately answered, "Throw a Pokeball at it!"

Sid did so, reluctantly, and the ball didn't even shake, it simply clicked, like the Pokemon had made no effort to resist capture!

"Wow..." Lily breathed out. "What a great first catch, Sid!"

Upon saying catch, Lily remembered something, something very important. She still needed to go to Bellsprout Tower! It had completely slipped her mind after she met Sid.

"Quick, Sid, come with me," Lily spurted out. "There's one last piece of business we have to resolve, then we can leave, come on!"

She began to hustle toward the familiar tower, with her young compatriot in tow.

"Wait a sec, what do you need there?" Sid asked, trying to keep up but stopped dead when the tower came into his view. He felted the bald patch on the top of his head, a scar he'd gotten from one of the monks there. They'd caught him digging through the garbage cans on day and pelted him with stones, giving him a minor concussion but it healed. He snapped out of his memory and ran to keep up with Lily.

Matt was glad to see how both of them were able make up, though he couldnt help but feel akward at the moment. He followed in case Chell's attitude made a turn for the Much worse, but it all seemed to work out for him, and they were having what looked to be a honest moment between the two. He turned and walked through the forest again taking a somewhat longer path, he decided to head back to see if anyone was still hanging around.
Once he reached the front of the Gym, he found that everyone else had taken off on their own so Matt just continued on his way, waiting for the others to finish what they wanted so they could simply get a move on to wherever was next.

"Well there's a special Pokemon there... A Pokemon that I need!" Lily shouted back to him. She continued her pace, glad to get in a bit of her morning jog at the same time.

"But why do you need Pokemon?" Sid shouted back at her, confused and a tad irritated.

"Oh, haven't I told you yet? I'm going to be the Champion of the Pokemon League!" Lily happily proclaimed. "So you're in good company, Sid!"

"I haven't actually watched a battle from the Pokemon League before but I hear the champion has really strong pokemon." Sid said trying to catch up with her.

"I have a question, why do you wanna help me? I mean you don't even know who I am and yet you still take time out to give me food and help me catch a pokemon."

As Gereld walked out of the Poke Mart, having used a little over a third of his money to buy food and for him and his 2 pokemon, and 2 more pokeballs. Returning to the pokemon Center, Gereld picked up Cindy, whom he had dropped off earlier, and then headed to where he had seen Matt go, obviously waiting for everyone else.

Having reached the Bellsprout Tower, Lily stopped and turned to the boy. She had no intention of pouring out her life story to him, they had merely met moments ago. Regardless, she believed that he deserved at least a half truth. She intended to travel with him, so he should at least know a little about the only person he'd be spending with for a good while.

She bit her lower lip for a moment, giving herself another moment to think of what to tell Sydney and what to keep to herself. She didn't want there to be any holes in her story that be could pick apart, at least until she got back to Blackthorn. If Sid managed to last the whole journey with her, Lily believed that he would be trustworthy and good enough to know the whole story.

She began, "Like I said, Sid, I've been on my own for a while. I actually am not from from Johto. I used to live in Cerulean City with my cousins. My dad...." she paused for a moment, as though it hurt to say it, which it did. "is dead. My mom was a drug addict and killed him one night when he was trying to protect me from her. We had all lived in Fuschia City together until that day. The cops moved me to Cerulean City then, to protect me from her, since she hadn't been arrested. Everything was fine for a few months, until the day she found me. She tried to kill me, but my cous... My family protected me. I escaped the city and decided to go somewhere far away... But I had no money. So I made the trek to Johto. Now, I wanna conquer the Pokemon League so my mother will come after me... And I can kill her in 'self defense.' It's not good or right.... But it's what I need to do."

She sighed, glad that the lying part was over. "So I understand what it's like to be in your position... Kind of. I feel bad for you... And I wanna help you so you don't end up like my mom. The streets aren't a good place. Ok?"
