Let's compare Gears of War and football ( soccer if you insist ).

One is a game about walking mountains of muscle who wear half a car and chainsaw 8 foot tall monsters in half with their gun.
The other is a game where sweaty men in shorts and long socks play with balls.

If anything, I'd say he's girly because he doesn't play video games.
Good call, good call.

OT: I don't really care if I'm not 'manly', mainly because I'm a girl, and also because 99% of the people I know play video games, whether they be guitar hero or an FPS. The people who don't play lack the co-ordination to do so and only don't play because they suck at it.

theyre probably self conscience wankers who have to compensate for a small dong and if theyre anything like stereo typical footy players then their IQ is probably below 5.

OT: besides these people need to get with the times, almost every conceivable person plays video games in some form or another...

I like girls, sports, and ESPN, probably as much if not more than radio guy.

I'm also an avid gamer, which means that I'm not limited to bimbos and airheads---I can get cute nerdy girls to sleep with me, and I actually want to talk to them AFTER we've had sex, not just before. Never underestimate the power of a girl who doesn't make you want to saw your arm off the morning after.

Best of both worlds.

HELLO, CHIIIILLLLDREN!

OT: Don't respond.

We have a radio DJ here in Colorado who tells the whole, friggin' world he's a gamer because he's played Halo, but everything else is nerdy and stupid.

That's a little worse than an "Armchair-Referee" telling you he doesn't like games. Some people just don't, even though he uses a little less tact than he should.

Also, he probably hasn't been laid in years. Don't read too much into it.

Chris Moyles once went off on a random string about a game he had on Call Of Duty, thereby isolating about 90% of his audience, but to my great amusment. Just listen to the right people.
Also, just don't talk to them. They're not worth it.

I'd probably try to show them up with my knowledge of sports.

Serves them right!

I'm a girl who loves video games (and sports and technology and suchlike), so I get told that I'm not feminine enough. To me, video games have always been a traditionally masculine interest, so I'm not sure why anyone would say that it's kids' stuff. I mean, kids play them, sure, but so do adults.

OP: You could always just deck them and say "WHO'S THE MAN NOW, *****?"

Just know that they're struggling with their closet Madden 2011 playing. And that they're gonna need some support when they come out as a gamer

Hmmmmm, my brother says that sort of thing about stuff like anime and webcomics and whatnot. Although he doesn't think it isn't 'manly', he just hates the 'geekiness' of it. I always say to him that it's geeks like us that create all the videogames he likes, that developed computers, CDs that he listens to, and the internet, and even things like TV. If it wasn't for geeks, he'd have pretty much zero entertainment and a very boring life, and so he should show some more respect to the geeks of the world. For this radio guy, I'd probably punch him in the mouth and then break his nose, and then remind him that it was so-called 'geeks' of their time-period who came up with stuff like radio, so it's thanks to geeks that he even has a job.

As far as anime goes, who else agrees here that anime is absolutely no different to American or UK cartoons, except for the art style and the language used? And thus watching anime is exactly the same as watching something like Family Guy or Futurama? Because that's something my brother just cannot get his head around...

Yes, because everyone knows that sitting on your ass all weekend and watching sports is COMPLETELY different from sitting on your ass all weekend and playing videogames...

"have you ever killed an animal, ripped out its anus to make sure it didn't cloud the meat, skin it, gut it, and then eat it? no? then don't fucking talk to me about being a man!"

The only people I hang out with game as well so I don't have that problem but you could A) find new friends or B) show them how manly videogames are by showing them playboy: mansion game thingy or GTA and shoot some hookers.

Exactly. It seems if there is, while not an extreme amount, a little bit of hypocrisy on this thread. You seem to have to the same view of athletes/sports fans in the same regard that radio guy views gamers. I like sports, I watch ESPN, I don't have a motorcycle but I certainly don't find people who ride them, or football players to be participating in a homoerotic activity. I play baseball, and am a pretty hardcore fan of the sport. But does that mean I can't go home after a game and play Team Fortress 2 or Starcraft. Must they be mutually exclusive?

I also like girls quite a bit.
