I like sports, girls and ESPN. Incidentally I also like playing videogames. Is there a special prize for me or something?

When I'm asked about football, soccer, baseball, basketball, lacrosse or tennis, I reply;
"I don't watch/play/read that stuff... I like girls... I like games... I like AVGN..."

See? Hobbies and women combine just as easily as any two completely different things.

So there's this guy on some radio show I listen to who, whenever anything that involves video games(or animation, comics, sci-fi, fantasy, or whatever remotely related), is mentioned, he always answers with...

"I don't watch/play/read that stuff... I like girls... I like sports... I like ESPN..."

Basically, everything else not sports related or involves real women to this guy is not manly... its all kids stuff...

People in my daily life are starting to say similar lines and its starting to piss me off...

So, Besides ignoring them (or turning the radio off), What is a good response to people who think that everthing you like is not "Manly"?

How would you respond to these "manly" people?
Well, being someone who does a lot of sports yet also plays lots of videogames I think I could give you some help here. A lot of people on the escapist seem to have a fairly negative view of the "manly jock" type of person (and...you know I could fall into that a little) which is just as bad as the geek stereotype they bemoan and attempt to fix.

Anyways. Tell them to "Man The Fuck Up" (you have to pronounce the caps). Followed by "just because you suck at them. Doesn't mean you shouldn't play them, it does stop you doing (insert appropriate sport/gender here) does it?"

Tell them that sports where you have to wear pads but don't have weapons are for pussys. Basically, American Football is shit. That's why I don't watch it.

Anything like that will probably suffice.

MASSIVE SARCASM ALERT

And here I was thinking that the military was kick ass.

As I recall, the US Marines use first person shooters for training. Also, if you go to any wardroom/mess in a warship, you'll find more or less every single game system that's been available for purchase for the last ten years.

Ah well, another illusion shattered.

I have the same problem, except its this guy whose dad brought him over from South Africa so all he knows is rugby and racial tension. We tried to get him out of it but now all my other friends are saying the same and selling all their videogames for rugby balls and guitars (Not that there's anything wrong with guitars, I play one, but I hate when people give up their hobbies (Extremely loved hobbies I might add.) because some new guy comes in and tells them its wrong.)

Point out the fact that gaming is now the single biggest entertainment industry on planet Earth, and that ESPN is garbage.

I would also bring to his attention the fact that girls play video games too....

Don't bother trying to explain it to them. I'm sure you've got better stuff to do than trying to explain things to idiots who won't listen anyway.
If you really want to, then just tell them that this is the 21st century and they should keep up with the times. Things that were considered "manly" in the last decade aren't anymore and who still believes that is a complete moron and should be punished for his stupidity.
But yeah, only if you really want to. Won't change their opinion anyway.

When I deal with overly macho guys, I tend to respond by smacking them across the face with some sort of blunt object.

Crude? Yes, but it gets them to shut the hell up while taking their ego down a peg. :p

Luckily for me my girl likes videogames too. :)
You lucky bastard. I can't even find any male gamer friends (that aren't complete fuckwits who refer to themselves as "Hardcore gamers")
Me too. All my friends play on Xbox 360. It's lonely being a PC gamer.

please videogames are based on the progress of technology, science, art and maths (male dominated fields) and are primarly logic based puzzles or require 3D spatial reasoning, they revolved around competition, they are the ultimate natural progession of masculinity.

Grow up. To each his own hobbies and interest, if he cant accept/tolerate those of others, he/it isnt worth your time.

And "Not Manly" is just a weak excuse to dismiss something imho. Maybe he doesnt understand it, or he is insecure about it. Maybe he doesnt like it, but cant find a "diplomatic" way to say it.
