North-eastern Road - Day 13 - 12:33

Feeling for the berries was frustrating work for Anik, as she had to feel every single branch. She was trying to do it systematically, but even then, she more than once just started to feel a branch she had just felt before. Still, as she had nothing better to do, she kept on doing it, finding a few, and, as she was able to increase the speed, a few more berries. The fingertips she had not covered grazed some spikes a few times, but Anik did not care, as she always had at least one berry in her mouth, which sweetened her mood.

She answered Timea, more calling then speaking, turning her head to her, but not stopping to feel the branches. "Nothing important. The others came through soon after we had left, but they did not come back to Meltha after they were on Vesh and back in Femesh Daer."

"Hmm. I suppose they then either didn't go in this direction or must have had camping supplies with them. Once we reach the village, we'll ask if anyone saw them pass through. If not, I do doubt they went by this route. But that's a thought for another day, I suppose".

Timea was quiet for a moment, then asked, "How did moving around the city overall go for you? Any tenseness, or anxiety?"

"Like I said - they could have gone to Vala directly. And they would not take this route, then, or would they?" Anik asked back.

"... anyways, I did not move around the city much, but from what I felt - it was the same as in Mathan Daer. Too many people, but nothing I could not deal with for a time."

"Well, we'll see about this, soon enough", Timea said simply, leaving the first topic in favour of the second. "So, the city. Good to hear it didn't bother you, too much. That is hasn't changed much over the last few days is also good, it leads me to think something has stabilised."

Finishing cutting off the second leg, Timea laid it aside, and began cutting away at the hind torso, just behind where the ribs ended. "How are you feeling, overall? Rather well, yes?" she asked.

"Hmm ... if you say so. Doesn't mean it's not still annoying, though. I would like to sleep in a bed at some point, again." Anik answered, not overly excited. "Overall, I'm feeling ... frustrated with picking berries." she said, as Timea asked. "No, not that. I don't know. I sometimes feel sad, most of the time angry, still. Sometimes very happy. It's ... kind of random how I feel. I don't know what to think about this."

"Well, when you look at what kind of situation we're in, that's not very surprising, is it? We're not safe, and you want to fix a mistake you feel responsible for. That's something to feel negatively about. And yet, through it all, we have some good times, and that's something to feel happy about", Timea relayed, then less seriously, and more optimistically added, "It makes sense, wouldn't you say?"

"... I suppose so. Still have the feelings like my feelings are more extreme than before, but ... I guess it does make sense." Anik said, and shrugged.

"Ouch." she made shortly after, having touched a thorn straight with her fingertip. "Ah damnit." she said, frustrated, stopped plucking berries for a second, instead sucking on the finger.

As Anik let out the yelp, Timea stopped what she was doing, and glanced over to her, seeing her suck on the finger. "You hurt yourself? Well, as you use your hands more, the skin there will get thicker, so this wouldn't happen as easily. But, until then, maybe you should ask Hillary to help you, hmm?"

With this said, Timea looked back to the carcass, and continued. "Either way, once you're finished, I want to talk about how things went for you, earlier in the past. But that can wait until you've had your fruity snack."

"The skin is already thick enough." Anik responded, slghtly annoyed. "I still need to be able to feel things. That's very important. Ah well, whatever.

Brrrr ... alright, we can talk about it. But I am sure you will hate it." she said about talking about the past.
With that, she asked Hillary to help and to warn her if she was about to get pricked again.

North-eastern Road - Day 13 - 12:45

When even Hillary did not find any new berries, they walked back to Timea. Anik sat herself on the ground, next to her, put the berries to the others in a scarf - then took a handful and stuffed as many berries as she could in her mouth.

"Mlright." she said to Timea. "Mnw I cnm tmll ymu stmff."

By the time Anik had finished picking the berries, Timea had finished cutting the meat where it needed to be cut, and was roasting it, one leg nearly finished. Still hungry, she lightly nibbled at the ankle of the leg, when Anik walked over to her.

"I can't really hear you if you talk with your mouth full, like that, you know?" Timea responded to Anik, after a moment of thinking of what Anik might have said. "Anyway, Hillary? Why don't you go practice your speedy walking for a bit? Move between the trees over there, and there."

After giving Hillary something to occupy herself with, Timea looked back to Anik. "So. I want to talk about the things that happened when you were with the others, and made your way to Calibeth City.

You came to the ruins, and were reminded of your former home. You said this was the moment you really started to experience sensing hearts differently, yes"

 

[Silence]

North-eastern Road - Day 13 - 12:45

"M Knw. Smrry." Anik said, and started to chew. As Hillary was away far enough, Aniks mouth had emptied enough that she was able to speak clearly again, although her lips now had a blue color to it.

"Sorry. Yes, this is correct. I mostly realized this is Palladein, though, when we met you. Before that - I don't know anymore, it is kind of in a haze.

So - ask away. I will try to tell you everything."

"Hmm. Well, we'll get to that, eventually." Timea stopped to take another bite, then continued. "You heard that we were in the city, and that I was carrying off a body", she began, not minding the possibility of her man-eating coming up. "What went through your head at that time? And why did you come running?"

"I still thought you ... well, not very good. And you were with Hillary. And you were dragging a body around ... with her, there.
I don't remember exactly, anymore, but I wanted to get Hillary away from you. I thought you would do ... eat the body, in front of Hillary. And I know this is not something a little girl should see. Or learn to do as well.
I wasn't concerned what you would do on your own. But I wanted to get Hillary ... so I came running. Well, I tried to, at least." her shameful display in mind, her head went red, and she shook it, trying to get rid off the memory.

Listening to Anik, Timea tilted her head, while taking a larger bite, and chewing quietly. "Hmm To go on a tangent: You didn't misjudge that", Timea stated after swallowing. "That was actually precisely what I wanted to do."

Anik frowned, stayed silent for a bit, then shook her head and said, in a quite a bit more angry tone of voice, even though she tried to hide it, failing miserably at that: "No matter. Hillary knows it is wrong. I asked her later. Forget it."

"Yes, she didn't agree with it. We agreed that I wouldn't eat the man, until we talked about it more." Picking up on the unmissable answer in Anik's voice, Timea with a neutral tone, asked, "But I see you're mad at what I told you. Why?"
