Village Outskirts - Day 14 - 09:57

"Alright." Anik said, smiling. "Thank you for explaining this to me."

As Timea was moving back, Anik took the ribs she had held off the fire and smelled it, guessing it was ready, but not being sure. She frowned, and asked Timea, holding out the ribs: "Is this ready?"

"Hmm. Yes, it looks like it is", Timea confirmed, after looking the ribs over for a moment, judging both inside and out were done.

Part of the leg finishing not long after, Timea ate quietly for three minutes, keeping then let out a "hmm", before swallowing what she had in her mouth, and speaking. "By the way; What did you two do behind the bushes, yesterday?" she asked, addressing both Anik, and Hillary, before looking to Hillary specifically. "It looked like you were showing Anik something, Hillary? I couldn't quite tell."

Hillary would stare up at Timea for a bit, remembering what she'd been showing, her face brightening when she remembered. "Oh! Ya, I was showing Anik that what I looked like after I ate a bunch of berries! Some made a funny pattern on my arms and I thought Anik would like to feel." Hillary answered truthfully, which Timea would have also been able to see when they'd come back, Hillary having eaten more than enough to ensure she'd remained in that form for a good while after. "She thought it would be a neat idea to have a bracelet of berries, but you can't really make more, so it wasn't a good idea. Ya." Hillary continued to tell what had happened that was worth noting to herself.

"You couldn't really make a bracelet out of those, anyway. They're far too squishy for that", Timea said with a small chuckle, not asking more on what might have happened, not having a reason to suspect it.

"Thanks." Anik stated shortly and began eating the ribs, liking the meat better than most of the organs, although it already tasted slightly sour.

As Timea was asking, Anik felt a small feeling of guilt rise up inside her, and she did not answer immediately, waiting for Hillary to answer the questions. She smiled about Hillarys descriptions, and chuckled when Timea said that it wouldn't be possible, chiming in: "It just felt like Hillary was wearing such a bracelet, so I mused about it."

While Hillary had not mentioned it, and Timea did not seem to have seen it, Anik still said, as she thought she should not hide it, and it could salve her conscience: "I did pluck some berries off Hillarys arm, as well, and ate them. ..."

Hearing Anik's second statement, Timea looked at her surprised, not sure what to make of it, after Anik was so clearly against eating a person. "So, essentially, you ate a part of Hillary?" she said, phrasing the comment like a statement with a questioning tone, rather than an actual question.

"That doesn't really match with what you said before, does it?" Asking this, Timea didn't sound judgemental. While finding the dissonance strange, it didn't really bother in, in the grand scheme of things.

Anik made a sound similar to "Brr" in answer to the first question, knowing the answer would be "yes", but not wanting to state this outright. With a lot of guilt in her voice, she answered the second one:
"No, it doesn't. I ... I did not know about this in Calibeth City. Also, it is different. It does not hurt Hillary, and it is normal for her. So ... I don't know. It's not eating dead people or something. It's not cannibalism. I don't eat something from other humans that they can't grow back ...
Also, like I said, I don't judge you for eating people. You're not human. But I wanted to tell Hillary that it is not right.
You know that, right, Hillary?

I ... I'm sorry. I'm confused about this. I don't know if it is right or wrong, to take something from Hillary. So I'm just making excuses ..."

Hillary's brows furrowed when Anik started lamenting her actions, not at all happy Anik was this upset. She did follow what Anik was saying in part though, although from her perspective some of the points Anik was trying to make didn't connect.

"Am I in trouble..?" Hillary eventually asked, oblivious to some of what was going on, but realizing that it definitely involved her. "Anik asked me if it was okay, why is that bad?"

"I don't judge you, either, Anik. But the fact of the matter is, you ate a part of a person, while you were firm on that this was wrong", Timea said calmly, then looked to Hillary as she began feeling worried.

"No, it's fine, Hillary. It's not really bad, as far as I'm concerned. It's just that this doesn't really make sense. Remember when we were talking about me eating that dead human? This ties into that discussion."

After speaking, Timea took another bite from her meat, speaking again after swallowing. "Yes, eating something that is offered, and grows back isn't exactly the same as eating a person whole, but it's still consuming a part of a person.

Suppose I would offer you to drink my blood, Anik; It wouldn't really hurt me, and I can easily go without an amount enough to fill a glass. So, it wouldn't really be different from Hillary offering a bit of herself. Knowing this, would you accept it?"

As Hillary got worried, Anik said to her as well: "No, Hillary, you're not in trouble. But remember how I did not want to eat something of you? I'm still kind of feeling this way, but I also know that it does not hurt you, and that you wanted me too, so ... I don't know if I did right or wrong."

She then got back to Timea, listening to her argument, then answering, meekly: "I know I've lost this argument. I ... don't want to think about it anymore. I'm feeling like a horrible person again.

Hmm ... I don't know. If you would tell me it has magical powers or something, maybe I would try some. It's ... if it would not hurt, and not be something like desecration of a dead body ... I guess I can't really say no, with what I've done? No, that's not right ... I would probably still say yes.
I mean, it does need to have a means ..."
Anik suddenly felt not very good, and she fell silent, only murmuring very quietly. "... I'm arguing like the person I was ..."

"Sharing with people isn't the same as eating a person though." Hillary insisted, puffing out her cheeks. "Anik shared some food with me, so I shared some back." Hillary said, before moving over to give Anik a hug, since it sounded like she needed one.

"It is if the food in question is a part of a person, Hillary. The lines get ever so blurry", Timea rebutted.

While Hillary moved in to hug Anik, Timea was quiet, speaking again when Hillary embraced Anik. "You now are just lying to yourself, Anik", she began, speaking somewhat firmly, while feeling sorry for Anik, seeing her mood sink like it did. "This doesn't help how you're feeling. Going on like this, you will only pile on excuse upon excuse. Be honest with yourself: Is consuming part of a person as bad as you made it out to be?"

Laying down the leg, Timea scooted next to Anik herself. She snapped her fingers, and placed a hand on Anik's. "There is no need to answer straight away, but since this is clearly bothering you, you need to work this out."

After saying this, Timea let out a short, soft chuckle, then spoke a little more cheerily. "Admitting you were wrong also doesn't mean you'll want to eat people, like I might, of course."

Anik smiled to Hillary, liking her argument a lot more than anything else, and when Hillary gave her a hug, she embraced it, and held Hillary close, cuddling her a lot.

Listening to Timea, Anik felt anger rise in her, at Timea, but mostly at herself. With the hug, though, she managed to stay calm, instead cuddling even more.
"Hmm ..." she answered, finally. "It does go against all that I have learned. But I guess I have to accept that you are right and I was wrong." She smiled, unsurely. "It still does go against what I am feeling, but whatever.
I guess I am now eating people."
she chuckled.

"W-What? No that's not right." Hillary responded in turn to Anik's statement. "You can't just go up and eat people!" Hillary argued.

"There's a big difference from sharing some food and eating a person, it's not blurry at all."

"Well, you should think this over, to make sure this is how you feel", Timea said, pulling her hand away, smiling a little. "Like I said, you don't have to answer straight away." With this said, Timea moved back to where she had been sitting before, and picked up the leg again, taking a small bite, and looking to Hillary, as she spoke.

"If the food comes from your body, a someone eating that is still eating a part of you, Hillary", she repeated. "Remember when you ate your own hand? If I ate the hand, it would I would still have eaten a part of you. The fact that it doesn't hurt you, and it grows back doesn't change that.

I'm not arguing doing this is the same as eating a person whole; that is a different discussion. But it is eating part of a person."

"Now I'm only confused." Anik stated. "I won't eat whole people, though, Hillary, you have my promise."

She did not feel like arguing any more, so she did not comment on Timea, but nodded.

After cuddling her face against Hillarys head some more, Anik reluctantly let go of her, smiled and said: "That's enough hugging for now, Hillary, I need to eat my breakfast.

... actually, do you want to search my bag, for the berries we picked yesterday? So you can also have a breakfast. And we can show Timea how I could pick berries off your arm."

"But then that's not what you were saying before then..." Hillary said, feeling like Timea was missing the point in all this. Regardless she'd appreciate the hugs from Anik, pushing her face up to Anik in turn. However when Anik mentioned the berries Hillary licked her lips, although not hungry, she was definitely up to eating some berries. "Where'd you put them in the bag Anik?" Hillary asked as she walked over to the bag in question.

"They should be right on top, wrapped in the first scarf." Anik answered, as she continued her breakfast of caribout ribs. Indeed, the scarf on the top already had some blue stains on it, where some squished blackberries had coloured it, so Hillary would be able to find the berries easily.
