Wow, I just used a metals calculator I have here at work. With estimated dimensions of Guts' sword, it would weigh roughly 400 lbs.

Either Vash from Trigun, Kenshin from Rurouni Kenshin, L from death note or Lelouch from Code geass. All of them are awesome characters in their own way.

Roger Smith. He's like a Japanese Bruce Wayne. Instead of fighting criminals with special gadgets and vehicles, though, he fights GIANT FUCKING ROBOTS with his own GIANT FUCKING ROBOT. But like I said, Japanese, so... that's natural, I guess.
I never liked Big O, Big O was a anime with giant robots and a deep dark mysterious feeling in it, like you never know whats really happening in the anime. I think Giant Robots should have more of a unpredictable epic in it rather then a dark gloomy mystery. Kina explains why i like TTGL... and Gundam stopped being good after i watched Gundam Wing and Endless Waltz.

Guts.
Anyone who gets himself impaled TWICE in one fight to kill somebody is awesome in my book.

Would that be the Roshinu fight? Where he caught her stinger with his teeth?

Apparently, Guts is about 6'4". Judging by the size, I'd assume that the blade is around 5-5.5 feet long. Is that the value you put in?

And yes, that's the Roshinu fight.
Best damn non-plot-centric fight EVER.
The Mozgus fight was awesome, too.

I went off what Galletea said about it being 7', then I took a foot off for the hilt. So rough estimate 72" long, 10" wide, 2" deep. And I accounted for the loss from the taper and tip as well.

Goku from DBZ. After all, his power level is OVER NINE... nah, too easy. I think that Batman from the Gotham Knight series should be, if that classifies as anime, since it does look mighty similar. If he doesn't count then I'm going with Suzaku from Code Geass.

Judging by this (http://berserk.wikia.com/wiki/Image:Dragonslayer.jpg) I would assume that it's a tad shorter than six feet, but the width seems accurate.

I'm throwing in another vote for Himura Kenshin.

I'd forgotten about Jubei from Ninja Scroll, he was awesome.

Ashitaka from Princess Mononoke deserves an honourable mention.

Howl from Howls Moving Castle was pretty cool too.

Kintaro Oe from Golden Boy.
If Kintaro is you're hero then you sir must be a very very..."Intresting" person.
I didn't mean that he's my personal hero. I don't go around rubbing my face on toilets if thats what you're implying.

how about levi from black lagoon i think shes awesome (but i cant realy say she is a hero as she is mostly a murdering machine but she is the most awesome character in any anime).

for a hero id choose the main character from hunter x hunter but i don't know his name anymore.
