Why so much PC gamer hate recently?

Because a lot of console games get insecure when you mention that the PC support your needs the best and then they have to call you an elitists.

i'm not insecure that i can't play my games on optimized settings like on a console and that i don't have to jump through the hoops of anti-virus, knowing how to put together and take apart a computer, and DRM before actually getting to run a game that may crash every few minutes or not.

i just don't like it when people say "PC can do more!" yes, but not as efficiently unless you're a super-genius who spent his/her whole life learning about ALL the proper ways to build a PC. It's not as easy as buying a console and just popping in a disc, and if PC gaming wants to match console gaming it has to get to THAT level of simplicity before anyone says "PC GAMINGZ IS NOT TEH DEADZ!!!!"

I know this topic has been posted 1-2 times per year...but honestly, i've been posting in march mayhem and every round theres some post, "escapist is mostly pc gamer this, escpaist is biased etc.."
I'm a pc gamer, but also i own consoles ps3, wii etc...

When people insult PC gamers, what they're talking about 99% of the time are PC elitists. Those who always shout "CONSOLIZED" and talk about how stupid Console Gamers are because they don't play Europa Universalis or Planescape: Torment or something. Or because they like Mass Effect 2 over the older BioWare titles. They deserve hate because of how condescending they get.

Still, this site DOES have a lot of PC fanboys. And like I said, this time of year, they go from PC fans to members of the PC Master Race. Normally sane PC gamers just completely lose their mind...

In retrospect, I see I knida sounded like a dick in that post, I was just saying that around this time of the year, there are all sorts of flamewars going on. It sucks... I am by all accounts a PC gamer since I don't own any consoles, but my PC is pretty old. It can manage DA2 on medium settings with 2x AA but that's about it.

So I get all the flak without even having a justification to act all superior and elitist. Bah.

I'd rather pay $400 for a console once and never wonder if the game is going to work well, nor wonder how much money I need to play a $50 game properly. Many PC gamers have more disposable income, or more time on their hands to buy a video card from Newegg and have to wait a week to play a game.

However, I will say that modding is cool and that it's much easier to capture game footage on a PC, and consoles will probably never match the graphics from a PC.

They're usually just demanding a better product, which I don't see anything wrong with. They sometimes get nasty and attack console gamers, blaming them directly. But in honesty, "dumbing down" is a major problem with the industry right now, not matter your platform, so I still agree with them.

Dragon age 2 has (ironically, similar to its in game plot) become the Maelstrom that's bringing the debate up more recently.
I loved Origins on my 360, I never really had a problem with the controls. DA2 did improve this somewhat.
However, it was a painfully inferior game, which many people guessed (PC players for a large part of it), and so its "justified" alot of their arguments.
But, then they got cocky, and their was a back lash from us in the console crowd, and the flame wars began.

Putting aside that current issue though, I do feel bad for the PC crowd. They are getting a raw deal lately. Games are getting features stripped out of them because the PC just does not bring in the same kind of cash, so they get "streamlined" for consoles.
I like it when I get a game I could not play otherwise, I do sometimes feel Devs are using "strealineed" as an excuse to get lazy and make simple shovel ware shooters.

Do you know how to use Lego then you can built a computer, and if you don't know how to use anti virus then what are you doing on the internet. Yes DRM are a bith and there have been more than a few game I have past up because of it. I have played pc games all my life and there have never been a game that I could not get to run stable.
It's not hard to learn, if you have a friend that know about the subject you can learn all you need in an afternoon, else it's a couple of day on the net should give you all you need.

Look, it's not consoles that we are pissed at, it's the console game system coming across to us. Sure, the PC is better, but it has it's own drawbacks, whether that's price, local multiplayer or if game installation hates your guts.

I agree, maintaining a PC isn't hard, I used to do okay, my argument is why bother? Being a PC enthusiast and being a gaming enthusiast are two entirely different schools of thought. I'm fairly confident nobody maintains a good PC set up just because they love games, they do it because they love their PC, and why the hell not, PC's are awesome and I'm supremely jealous of anyone who has an impressive set up. However, don't just buy a PC for gaming, that's stupid, buy a PC because you love the idea of having and maintaining a PC. If you bought a relatively low spec PC for more than likely around twice the price of a console and you almost never bother to upgrade it or work on it and you have it just for the purposes of playing games then you're an idiot. PC's are superior pieces of tech, no one should be stupid enough to deny that, and if you're going to have one it's a commitment to maintain that tech. If you can't be bothered then there's nothing wrong with that, I gave up on PC gaming because I went out, got a job, got a girlfriend, had shit to do and bills to pay and realised I barely used my PC to it's full capacity and a whole load of software updates had fucked up most of it's old capabilities anyway so when it came to the next upgrade a console was the smart choice. Maybe I'll return to the PC one day maybe I won't.

I hope I'm making sense here. I still have PC "elitist" (for lack of a better term) friends and at the end of the day they are dicks, and they're not even particularly hard core, they just wax idiotic about PC related drivel not realising that nobody gives a shit. I have absolutely nothing against PC elitist gamers as long as they realise that nobody cares what they think about anything. The same goes for console fanboys, nooooboooddddy cares. Why is that stupid? The only things my computer does is light internet surfing and play games and as soon as it gets a better processor (and it could do with a touch more RAM) it will be a fairly good gaming PC, I am idiot for not using it to do more? It's my PC if I want to use it to play nothing but minecraft then I shouldn't be branded an idiot for doing so.
